The community got together to celebrate the opening of a new facility in Longmeadow. Local lawmakers and health experts gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon at the Longmeadow Shops on Bliss Road.
They told 22News that there's a need for more medical resources in our area, as three local Urgent Care Centers closed more than two years ago. Baystate Health Urgent Care Centers in Longmeadow, Feeding Hills, and Westfield shut their doors in 2023.
'We have a shortage of primary care doctors here in western Massachusetts. So, having an Urgent Care facility like this in Longmeadow can help to bridge that gap,' said State Senator Jake Oliveira.
'I think one of the big things that separates us is that everyone who works for us has a background in working in the emergency department. We think that skill set, ability to help others gives us that upper hand to manage patients appropriately,' said Michael Cobill, CEO, Pioneer Health MSO.
This new location will also create new jobs, helping to benefit the economy.
