3 people displaced following attic fire in Longview
LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK)– Three people are displaced following an attic fire in Longview on Saturday afternoon. According to Longview Fire Department, at around 1:45 p.m. firefighters responded to 115 Electra Street where they found light smoke conditions coming from the eaves of the attic. The department said that crews found a small fire in the cellulose insulations and were able to extinguish it with minimal structural damage in the attic. Photos courtesy of Longview Fire Department During the investigation, the resident reportedly said that he was having problems with some of his electronics not working, so he left to go buy another extension cord and power strip. When he returned home, he noticed the odor of smoke coming from the attic. 3 injured in trailer fire near Mabank Officials said the cause of the fire was related to an electrical failure in the attic because of an overload of the wiring from multiple extension cords and multi-plug adapters being used to supply power to electronic devices. The three people that lived in the home were found with no injuries and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Longview Fire reminds East Texans that when using space heaters or any other heat producing appliance they should always be plugged directly into the wall outlet without using any type of extension cord or multi-plug.
