Rugby world record is set

Edinburgh's Gavin Hastings, chair of The Lions Trust, has paid tribute to the players who set a new world record for playing rugby union non stop in the name of charity. The event was staged in Mullingar with the principal beneficiary being mental health charity LooseHeadz as well as Wooden Spoon. More than £100,000 has been raised – and counting – with a number of Scots taking part. Hastings, who captained the Lions in 1993, said: 'Congratulations to LooseHeadz and Wooden Spoon for a phenomenal achievement. 'I have huge respect and admiration for all the men and women who took part in this world record-breaking feat in Mullingar over the past two days. 'As rugby's mental health charity, LooseHeadz, is tackling the stigma of mental health and the money raised from this challenge will go towards ensuring every rugby club has a dedicated mental health lead. 'It is amazing moment to celebrate.' The men's game lasted for just over 36 hours beating the previous best of 30 hours, 29 mins, 41 secs in the lead up to the Lions pre tour fixture with Argentina at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, on Friday evening. The women's game lasted 26 hours, 33 mins beating the previous best of 24 hours, 5 mins, 41 secs. The Lions Trust 'exists to connect with, nurture and support all Lions players in need whilst furthering the spirit, values and ethos of The British & Irish Lions throughout rugby clubs across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales'. Attempt for longest game of men's rugby under way in Mullingar

An attempt to break the world record for the longest game of men's rugby is under way. Earlier today the record for the longest game of women's rugby was broken. Tagged as 'The Longest Game', the event smashed the women's record of 24 hours and 5 minutes earlier this morning. The men's record stands at 30 hours 29 minutes and could be broken in Mullingar at 3pm this afternoon. The games began at Mullingar Rugby Club at 8am yesterday morning. Ninety-two players across four teams took part in the non-stop match. The records comprised of two men's squads of 23 players each and two women's teams of 23 players each. The games have been 15-a-side and players are being rotated to allow for rest. Support teams, including physios, medics and chefs, ensured participants stayed fuelled and in shape, while regular water breaks have also been permitted. However, it is more than just a test of physical endurance as the aim is to raise money for charity. The charities who will benefit are mental health charity LooseHeadz and Wooden Spoon, which support children and young people playing rugby and the British and Irish Lions Trust. "We want to go above and beyond the standard 80 minutes of a rugby game and we're hoping to raise over £100,000 (€117,110)," said Rob Shotton, co-founder of LooseHeadz. This will go towards efforts to tackle the stigma around mental health in rugby, raise awareness "and most importantly, improve and save lives". "We're incredibly proud to be partnering with Wooden Spoon in this historic event; with their help, we've strengthened the foundations around mental health awareness," Mr Shotton said. While the men's team will break the record at 3pm this afternoon, they intend to continue playing until 10pm tonight to ensure their record is not broken for some time to come.

Charles Tyrwhitt unveils Lions rugby collection and campaign

In a series of discussions and behind-the-scenes moments, the campaign 'offers a rare glimpse into the highs and lows of their respective Lions tours - the memories, the mentors, and their expectations for the class of 2025'. Dressed head-to-toe in Charles Tyrwhitt, each ambassador sports the new Lions collection, 'designed to give Lions' fans a smart casual way to show their support'. 'Whether cheering on the team from the stands in a signature polo or toasting from a pub back home in a heritage-inspired jersey shirt, there's something for every supporter', the retailer said. Available online and in selected stores, the range features piqué Polo Shirts with the Lions' badge, high-performance Zip Neck Knitwear and Gilets showcasing a bold heraldic lion motif, and Jersey Shirts. Completing the collection are accessories including ties, pocket squares, and boxer shorts, 'each incorporating subtle nods to rugby tradition'. Beyond the campaign, Charles Tyrwhitt is also bringing the Lions closer to its customers with two exclusive events in London. On 24 June, in partnership with rugby's mental health charity, LooseHeadz and The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, the brand will host a live podcast with former Lions' players and Charles Tyrwhitt ambassadors following the Dublin test. All proceeds from the event will go to LooseHeadz. Further, there will also be 'An Evening with Lions Legends' at its Jermyn Street, London, store, featuring a Q&A session with Dawson, Greenwood and Healey. As the countdown to Australia 2025 continues, this partnership allows Charles Tyrwhitt access into the current 2025 touring squad camp, where they will be able to provide behind-the-curtain access into the camp and players. Joe Irons, chief sales and marketing officer at Charles Tyrwhitt, said: 'It's been incredible to be part of the Lions journey - from the squad announcement last month to now launching our latest campaign. Having four legendary Lions ambassadors, whose tours span so much of Lions history, together in one room has been iconic. Beyond that, we're very proud to be bringing the Lions even closer to our customers, through a number of events and unforgettable experiences.'
