'Lord of the Rings' star to introduce all-trans, non-binary rendition of Shakespeare play
Sir Ian McKellen will be introducing a UK performance of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" featuring a cast entirely of transgender and non-binary performers this summer. The Trans What You Will theater group will soon be globally livestreaming their performance of a rehearsed reading of Shakespeare comedy "Twelfth Night" at The Space theater in London on July 25. The cast, as announced in their casting call, will consist of "12 – 14 trans and non-binary performers," noting, "We are particularly interested in hearing from those who are multiply marginalized as we want a wide representation of the trans community." The theater group announced on its official Instagram page that "iconic actor and LGBTQ+ activist, Sir Ian McKellen, will be introducing our show!" Litter of kittens found zip-tied to shopping cart
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Four kittens were found zip-tied to the bottom of a shopping cart at a Riverside County shopping center Tuesday evening. The kittens were found by one of the Helen Woodward Animal Center's partners, who knew to call the shelter. 'When they came in, they still had their umbilical cords attached,' said Austin Hale from the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Hale had been there the moment the kittens arrived for emergency care, describing it as a heavy experience that is hard to put into words. 'Kittens are such pure, little innocent creatures and our medical staff determined that they were probably three days old at most,' Hale said. 'Your first thought is, 'Who could do this?' Hale says only two of the kittens survived, one of whom has a leg injury that may force veterinary staff to amputate. The other was uninjured. 'We were all really concerned because the two — the other two [that passed] — we put two and two together and realized they hadn't eaten in a very long time,' Hale explained. 'Something that is important about newborn kittens is that they have to eat every two hours.' He said relief came when the two surviving kittens went to the bathroom and were able to take to the bottle immediately. 'They were spunky little guys. They just refused to give up,' Hale said. Both kittens are now recovering with foster parents. This is just the latest animal abuse case the animal center has fielded. Hale says this year, they seen a spike in animal abuse cases. 'If I had to guess, I would say we probably have seen as many animal abuse cases now than we've seen in the entirety of 2024,' Hale said. Back in February, a litter of pugs was rescued from a dumpster. Those pugs have all since been adopted. That's the hope for the two surviving kittens who do not have names yet. Though Hale is guessing they may be named after 'Lord of the Rings' characters, Frodo and Sam. PHOTO: PRIME VIDEO SYDNEY - New Zealand will allocate more budget funds to give rebates to foreign studios for filming movies in the country - a move which follows US President Donald Trump's announcement of 100 per cent tariffs on films made outside the United States. New Zealand, where the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy was shot, has become a popular filming location for Hollywood movies due to lower costs and government incentives. 'We are sending a clear message to the world: New Zealand is the best place in the world to make movies. Bring your productions here to take advantage of our talent and locations,' Finance Minister Nicola Willis said in a statement. When announcing the 100 per cent tariffs this month, Mr Trump said Hollywood was dying a 'very fast death' due to incentives offered by other countries. An additional NZ$577 million (S$440 million) will be injected into next week's federal budget to sustain New Zealand's International Screen Production Rebate scheme. That comes despite the government's proposed cuts to baseline spending as tax revenue shrinks. Under the rebate programme first introduced in 2014, eligible productions can access a cash rebate of 20 per cent for production costs of more than NZ$15 million for feature films, and NZ$4 million for television shows. 'While industry incentives are not generally our favoured approach, the reality is we simply won't get the offshore investment in our highly successful screen sector without continuing this scheme,' Ms Willis said. New Zealand's film sector employs about 24,000 people and generates NZ$3.5 billion annually, with around a third of revenue coming from the United States, its foreign ministry said in a March 2025 report. WB confirms 2027 release for ‘The Hunt for Gollum'
Warner Bros has officially announced the release date for its upcoming 'Lord of the Rings' spinoff film, 'The Hunt for Gollum'. The much-anticipated prequel is scheduled to hit cinemas on December 17, 2027. Set before the events of Peter Jackson's acclaimed 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, the film is based on the appendices written by J.R.R. Tolkien and follows Aragorn's secret mission, commissioned by Gandalf the Grey, to track and capture Gollum, who is in possession of the One Ring.
