Leanne Morgan Netflix Sitcom From EP Chuck Lorre Will Drop All 16 Episodes in July — See First Photos

Chuck Lorre's latest multi-cam is bypassing broadcast television and going straight to streaming: Netflix on Wednesday announced that Leanne will premiere Thursday, July 31 — and all 16 (!) episodes will drop at once. The half-hour comedy, which Lorre co-created with Susan McMartin (Mom, Two and a Half Men) and stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan, casts Morgan as… well, Leanne! In the show, 'Leanne's life takes an unexpected turn when Bill, her husband of 33 years (played by Two and a Half Men's Ryan Stiles) leaves her for another woman,' according to the official logline. 'Starting over when you're a grandmother and in menopause isn't exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family' — including Mom's Kristen Johnston, who plays Leanne's sister Carol — 'she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.' ‘The Big Bang Theory' Co-Creator Chuck Lorre Calls Kaley Cuoco's Penny ‘Sadly One-Dimensional' Early In Sitcom: 'Took A While To Figure Out'

The Big Bang Theory may be defying the laws of TV mechanics with its storied success, but there's one thing co-creator Chuck Lorre said the series 'missed' early on with regard to Kaley Cuoco's character Penny. In the first episode of The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast opposite former Warner Bros. Television Group chairman and CEO Peter Roth, Lorre — who also co-created Two and a Half Men — discussed the failed unaired pilot of the sitcom and being given a 'do-over' following penning a 'sh—-y' script alongside collaborator Bill Prady. 'The magic of Kaley was, Kaley's character — as we figured this thing out on the fly — was amused by [Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki's characters], was not critical. If she got angry, it wasn't harsh. The audience really responded to that,' Lorre explained. He added, 'She was never judgmental about these characters. She was bemused by them, in fact. They brought more judgement to her than she did ever of them. And I thought that was also an important difference between the character of what Penny brought versus the character of what Katie brought in the original unaired pilot.' Despite the dynamic element and heart Penny brought to socially inept brainiacs Sheldon Cooper (Parsons) and Leonard (Galecki), Lorre admitted that he didn't fully grasp Penny's complexity from the get-go. 'Even after the second pilot, we had so many episodes to go before we started to understand that there was a brilliance to Penny's character that we had not explored,' he said, adding that early episodes depicted her as a 'goofy blonde who says foolish things.' The prolific TV writer/producer continued, 'It's a cliched character: the dumb blonde, and we missed it. We didn't have that right away that what she brought to this story, this series, to these other characters was an intelligence that they didn't have. A kind of intelligence that was alien to them, an intelligence about people and relationships and family.' In concluding, he said, 'She brought a humanity to them that they were lacking. And that took a while to figure out. Certainly, in the beginning she was sadly one-dimensional in many ways, but the gift of a TV series that starts working is you get time to learn.' Lorre's comments seem to allude to discussions around the show's misogynistic tone in certain moments, which have percolated for years. However, for her part, Cuoco said last year that she would 'absolutely reprise' the character. She stated, 'I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I've ever had.' With 10 Emmys in tow, the popular CBS sitcom — which ran for 12 seasons from 2007 through 2019 to become the longest-running multi-cam series in television history — has spawned equally beloved offshoot Young Sheldon, focusing on Sheldon Cooper's youth with Iain Armitage in the role, which ended in early 2024 after seven seasons. Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, featuring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment in the title roles, premiered on CBS in October, from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre is under an overall deal. A Max spinoff — with Lorre at the helm — is also beginning to take shape as original series alumni Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus and, most recently John Ross Bowie, signed talent-holding deals with WBTV with the intention to star in the forthcoming show. However, the project remains in early development and is still without a greenlight as the script is still being completed. Big Bang Theory co-creator issues complaint with show after ‘missing' Penny detail

The Big Bang Theory co-creator has issued a personal complaint about the original failure of Kaley Cuoco 's character Penny. In a new podcast, Chuck Lorre has been reflecting on the long-running CBS show, which generated hit spin-off Young Sheldon, and opened up about 'missing' what would go on to make Penny such a beloved character. Originally, in an unaired pilot considered was so 's***ty' Lorre was permitted to have a 'do-over', Penny was Katie, whom Cuoco previously described as 'a dark, brooding unhappy woman' – worlds away from the Penny that would make it onto the show. Lorre changed Penny's character entirely in the second pilot script, following which he cast Cuoco, who had lost the role of Katie to Amanda Walsh. But still, not all was right with Penny's character. Lorre has admitted, upon re-watching the series, that she was depicted too much as a 'goofy blonde who says foolish things'. Speaking on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast, Lorre said: 'It's a clichéd character – the dumb blonde – and we missed it. 'We didn't have that right away that what she brought to this story, this series, to these other characters, was an intelligence that they didn't have. A kind of intelligence that was alien to them, an intelligence about people and relationships and family.' He continued: 'Even after the second pilot, we had so many episodes to go before we started to understand that there was a brilliance to Penny's character that we had not explored.' One thing Lorre and his collaborator Bill Prady did realise, though, is that Penny needed warmth to make the show work. 'The magic of Kaley was, Kaley's character — as we figured this thing out on the fly — was amused by Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki), was not critical. If she got angry, it wasn't harsh. The audience really responded to that. 'She was never judgmental about these characters. She was bemused by them, in fact. They brought more judgement to her than she did ever of them. 'And I thought that was also an important difference between the character of what Penny brought versus the character of what Katie brought in the original unaired pilot.' Penny ultimately 'brought a humanity' to her fellow characters 'that they were lacking' – something Lorre said it 'took a while to figure out'. 'Certainly, in the beginning she was sadly one-dimensional in many ways, but the gift of a TV series that starts working is you get time to learn.' Cuoco once reflected on her casting on the show in a behind-the-scenes featurette, stating: 'Chuck called a year later and, 'It's a new character, we want you to come in.' I read for it and it just felt so much better than it did the year before. I guess it was just meant to be.' Cuoco played Penny in all 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory, alongside Parsons and Galecki, from 2007 to 2019.

Chuck Lorre Shares Heartfelt On-Air Tribute to L.A. Firefighters Who Saved His Home: 'You Spared Me Incredible Heartache'

Chuck Lorre is offering his thanks to first responders. At the end of his CBS comedy Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage on Jan. 30, the vanity card written by the producer offered a message to the Los Angeles firefighters. After flames blazed across the city, endangering his own home, Lorre revealed it was saved. 'To the crew of the LAFD Fire Truck 14,' Lorre wrote. 'You saved my home. You made a snap decision to stop a rampaging fire that had already destroyed my neighbor's house. In doing so, you spared me incredible heartache. There are no words that can adequately express my gratitude.' 'Maybe I can buy all you guys a nice dinner and you can watch a grown man cry tears of joy over his chicken parm,' he continued. 'Let me know. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Chuck Lorre.' After the fires first sparked in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena neighborhoods of L.A. on Jan. 7, nearly 30 deaths were reported and thousands of structures were lost. Several celebrities, along with over 80,000 displaced residents, were impacted by the fires occurring in L.A. in January. Cameron Mathison, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Anna Faris, Ricki Lake, Cary Elwes and Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag all confirmed that their homes were destroyed. Others, like Lorre, Tara Lipinski, Chrissy Teigen, and Britney Spears, were forced to evacuate as the flames rapidly spread. Related: L.A. According to the documents, filed in California's Superior Court in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Pratt and Montag argue that the devastating fire was "an inescapable and unavoidable consequence" due to how the city and LADWP allegedly managed water supply in the area. 'The Palisades Fire was an inescapable and unavoidable consequence of the egregious failure of the water supply system servicing areas in and around Pacific Palisades, including having an empty water reservoir. This failure was a substantial factor in causing my clients and others to suffer enormous losses,' stated Peter McNulty of the McNulty Law Firm and the attorney for the Pratts. "We intend to hold the City of Los Angeles accountable.' PEOPLE reached out to attorneys for LADWP and the city of Los Angeles for comment, but did not receive a response.
