Don Toliver, Doja Cat Rev Up ‘F1 the Movie' Soundtrack With ‘Lose My Mind'
With this new Don Toliver-Doja Cat joint, F1 might be gearing up for what might be the film soundtrack of the year. On Thursday, the Brad Pitt-starring film released a sultry, race car dream sequence video for the single 'Lose My Mind' off of F1 the Album. The Christian Breslauer-directed video opens with a close-up of one of the Formula One vehicles with Toliver singing inside of it. The film then transforms into an X-ray version of the car as he delivers the high-energy, electronic track's lyrics. 'In my world, in my mind, always runnin' out of time/In my love, in my heart, you're the only kryptonite,' sings Toliver atop a pedestal made up of driver helmets. More from Rolling Stone Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Burna Boy, Rosé, and More Feature on 'F1' Soundtrack Doja Cat Is Teasing New Music, But Don't Ask Where the Album Is Young Thug Will Play First Show Since Jail Release at 2025 Summer Smash The video then switches to a futuristic clip of Doja being created by a pair of robots as an automobile-ified half-human. She then hangs nude in a pool of car oil while swinging atop an engine. (Her stunning looks were made by Mugler.) 'You saw me at rock bottom, you wanted a new winner/I paved the way for 'em/Take the pain, doubled it, put it in wave form,' raps Doja on her verse. 'Safe to say trouble ain't what you was made for/Keepin' the rang on/I told 'em all game on the minute I came on.' The new song will be featured on F1 the Album, the companion LP to the Joseph Kosinski-directed F1 the Movie, which stars Pitt alongside Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, and Lewis Hamilton. Ryan Tedder produced the Atlantic Records-led album, which also features a theme song composed by Hans Zimmer. The album, which will likely feature a star-studded lineup of musicians, is set to drop on June 27 with the film. F1 the Album is being produced by the same folks behind the soundtracks for Twisters, Suicide Squad, and Barbie. 'Lose My Mind' follows Toliver's collaboration with Speedy, J-Hope, and Pharrell on 'LV Bag,' while Doja joined Jack Harlow on 'Just Us' and Raye and Lisa on 'Born Again' earlier this year. Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Burna Boy, Rosé, and More Feature on ‘F1' Soundtrack
The spectacle of Formula 1 does not exist without the noise: the sound of rubber zipping over the track at 200 mph, the clatter of gravel as a car skids over a corner, the collective gasp of a crowd as a chassis crumples into a barrier — or another car — at unfathomable speed, and the pop of a champagne cork over a trophy. Now, following its success with the Oscar-, Golden Globe-, and Grammy-winning life-in-plastic soundtrack for Greta Gerwig's Barbie, Atlantic Records is looking to bring the energy of the racetrack to the big screen with a star-studded companion to Apple Original Films' F1. More from Rolling Stone Ed Sheeran Presses 'Play' on Upcoming Album With Nostalgic Single 'Old Phone' Don Toliver, Doja Cat Rev Up 'F1 the Movie' Soundtrack With 'Lose My Mind' Ed Sheeran Dumps Photos From Old Phone Before Dropping New Song 'Old Phone' Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, Burna Boy, Raye, Tate McRae, Don Toliver, Madison Beer, Rosé, Tiësto, and Chris Stapleton are just some of the artists on F1 the Album. The soundtrack's 17 original songs will buttress Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, and Javier Bardem's high-speed international podium chase in theaters this summer. See the full lineup below. The album is produced and overseen by Grammy Award winner and Atlantic Records West Coast President Kevin Weaver, the producer of Barbie the Album, Twisters: The Album, and other soundtracks. The F1 companion LP will be available in full on June 27, the same day as the film's premiere. Atlantic Records and F1 will be counting down the film's release with weekly single drops — beginning with Wednesday's release of 'Lose My Mind,' a synth-heavy collaboration between Toliver and Doja that feels like cruising down a neon-illuminated avenue on a late-night drive. Which is exactly where we find Toliver in the single's accompanying music video. Directed by Christian Breslauer — of Lil Nas X's 'Industry Baby' fame — the video is a study in the anatomy of a Formula 1 car, a race suit, and Doja's engine grease-slicked body. Detail shots showcase the gold and black livery of the fictional car that Pitt and Idris will pilot in F1 — one that any real team on the track wouldn't hesitate to adopt. From Dom Dolla's moody electronica to Stapleton's roaring country to Peggy Gou's meditative Eurodance and Myke Towers' lowrider-worthy reggaeton, the F1 soundtrack charts a path that mirrors the seasonal race calendar's journey across the globe. Directed and produced by Joseph Kosinski alongside co-executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the film stars Pitt as washed-up 'greatest that never was' driver Sonny Hayes, who agrees to come out of retirement to help his friend and former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Bardem) save his struggling racing team, Apex Grand Prix. His new teammate, Joshua 'Noah' Pearce (Idris), is a rookie upstart with all the raw talent and none of the experience, and the two will battle for the checkered flag in a cutthroat sport where no one shares a podium — much less a championship. Formula 1 devotees will almost inevitably be aware of the film's development, given that major portions of it were filmed on site at major race tracks over the course of the 2023 and 2024 season. Formula 1's biggest names will also feature in the film. All 20 drivers of 2023, including six-time champion Lewis Hamilton (who is also a producer on the project), four-time champion Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz, George Russell, Fernando Alonso, and Sergio 'Checo' Perez, will make appearances. Fan-favorite, former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner is also set to have a cameo. The first full trailer for F1, released in March, promises visual thrills that will put viewers who haven't had the pleasure of testing out a simulator closer to the track and the cars than ever before. High-speed overtakes, brutal collisions, and paddock drama combine for what is poised to be the blockbuster of the summer. 'The F1 movie is as authentic a racing movie as has ever been,' Hamilton said in a behind-the-scenes video released earlier this year. The film will be back on the real-world paddock this weekend at the Miami Grand Prix, where Atlantic Records and F1 will host a takeover featuring a replica of the film's Apex Grand Prix team, album previews, race simulators, and appearances by some of the stars and artists collaborating on the film. In F1's soundtrack, Atlantic Records promises a high-rpm joyride for the ages, and they have yet to build a car that can get us to premiere day fast enough. Track List 1. Lorde Finally Announces New Album ‘Virgin': Here's When It Arrives
Lorde has released three albums, but it's been so long since she dropped one that her fourth full-length effort, Virgin — which the star announced at long last Wednesday (April 30) — might just make you feel like she's doing it for the very first time. The New Zealand native shared the news via a posting on her website, revealing the LP's blue-toned cover art and sharing that it will arrive June 27. '100% WRITTEN IN BLOOD,' she wrote, revealing that the project's collaborators include Jim-E Stack, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro and Dev Hynes of Blood Orange. More from Billboard Looking Ahead: A Release Calendar of Upcoming Albums in 2025 CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso: The Duo Disrupting Latin Music's Boundaries With Flair, Friendship and Fearlessness Don Toliver & Doja Cat Hit the Fast Lane for New Song 'Lose My Mind': Watch the Music Video The album's artwork marks Lorde's first since 2013's debut project, Pure Heroine, to not feature the 'Royals' singer on the cover. Instead, the photo shows what appears to be an X-ray of a crotch area with a zipper showing up on the scan in the front; between the bones that make up the pelvis, an IUD is visible. In a release, Lorde further teased the direction of the record. 'THE COLOUR OF THE ALBUM IS CLEAR,' she wrote in an all-caps statement. 'LIKE BATHWATER, WINDOWS, ICE, SPIT. FULL TRANSPARENCY. THE LANGUAGE IS PLAIN AND UNSENTIMENTAL. THE SOUNDS ARE THE SAME WHEREVER POSSIBLE. I WAS TRYING TO SEE MYSELF, ALL THE WAY THROUGH. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A DOCUMENT THAT REFLECTED MY FEMININITY: RAW, PRIMAL, INNOCENT, ELEGANT, OPENHEARTED, SPIRITUAL, MASC.' 'I'M PROUD AND SCARED OF THIS ALBUM,' she added. 'THERE'S NOWHERE TO HIDE. I BELIEVE THAT PUTTING THE DEEPEST PARTS OF OURSELVES TO MUSIC IS WHAT SETS US FREE.' The announcement comes just more than a week after Lorde dropped Virgin's lead single, 'What Was That,' on April 24. The track arrived with an accompanying music video filmed in New York City, featuring footage of the singer meeting up with fans in Washington Square Park. Lorde hasn't released an album since 2021's Solar Power, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200. See Lorde's announcement below. The race to ROSÉ's new song is over, with the BLACKPINK star unveiling 'Messy' for the F1 soundtrack, along with an accompanying music video, on Thursday (May 8). In the sleek visual, the New Zealand-born performer walks through various nighttime cityscapes, strutting down a glistening street past a crowd of people and leaning over the terrace of a high-rise building in between shots of footage from the F1 movie. 'Baby, let's get messy, let's get all the way undone/ Come over and chase me like I've never been touched,' she belts over piano and anthemic percussion, sitting on the floor of a blue-lit room as confetti rains down on her. 'Baby, I'm obsessed with you, and there's no replica/ If it's messy, then you know it's really love.'
