Clemson football standouts named to 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List Two Clemson football players have been named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List. Tigers defensive linemen T.J. Parker and Peter Woods are two of 42 players -- and 16 defensive linemen -- to place on the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, which recognizes the nation's top defensive player who excels both on and off the field. Both are coming off standout seasons for Clemson in 2024. Parker, a four-star recruit from Phenix City, Ala., registered 57 tackles (19.5 for loss) and 11 sacks last year while starting all 14 games. He forced six fumbles and had one pass breakup. Parker enters his junior year with 105 tackles (32.0 TFL), 16.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three pass breakups in 27 career games (17 starts). Woods, a five-star recruit out of Thompson High School in Dabo Swinney's hometown area of Alabaster, Ala., played in 11 games last year. He made 10 starts and recorded 28 tackles (8.5 for loss), three sacks and a forced fumble in his sophomore season. Woods has 54 tackles (11 TFL) and two forced fumbles in two seasons at Clemson. Both Woods and Parker have appeared on way-too-early 2026 NFL mock drafts as first-round picks by PFF, ESPN and Yahoo Sports. The Lott Trophy is named after College Football and NFL Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott. The winner of the award will be announced during college football's awards season in December. Clemson opens the 2025 season against the LSU Tigers on Aug. 30 at Memorial Stadium. Two Alabama players named to 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy preseason watch list
Announced on Wednesday, a pair of Alabama Crimson Tide defensive players have been named to the preseason watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. Those two players were the returning duo of LT Overton and Deontae Lawson, both of which were among the 42 total names across college football named to the 2025 preseason watch list. Advertisement Overton, a defensive lineman, transferred to Alabama from Texas A&M a year ago where he had a career-year with the Crimson Tide. Across 13 games played, Overton posted a career-high 42 tackles with three TFL and two sacks, and could easily surpass those totals in 2025. As for Lawson, the inside linebacker is a returning team caption who is entering his fourth season as a starter with the Crimson Tide. Lawson is also coming off a career-year in 2024, one that was shortened by injury, where he had 76 tackles, seven TFL, two sacks, and an interception across 11 games played. Alabama has won the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which recognizes the top defensive player in college football, only two times ever, which came in 2005 (DeMeco Ryans) and 2022 (Will Anderson Jr.). Last season's winner was Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter. Contact/Follow us @RollTideWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Alabama news, notes and opinion. LSU linebackers named to prestigious defensive award watchlist
LSU linebackers named to prestigious defensive award watchlist LSU football linebackers Harold Perkins Jr. and Whit Weeks were named to the Lott Trophy watch list. The trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player for impact on and off the field. The last Tiger to take home the award was Glenn Dorsey in 2004. With Weeks and Perkins, LSU is aiming to have one of the best linebacker duos in the SEC. Perkins and Weeks are both coming off significant injuries in 2024. Perkins went down in Week Four with a knee injury, while Weeks was carted off the field in the second quarter of the Kinder's Texas Bowl after sustaining multiple lower-body injuries. Weeks led the team with 125 tackles, including 10 for loss and 3.5 sacks. He added six quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Despite sitting out all spring, he will be at full strength for summer workouts. Perkins burst onto the scene as one of the SEC's top pass rushers in 2022, but Perkins moved to inside linebacker in 2023. It was an adjustment for the former five-star recruit, but he made 75 tackles, including 13 for loss, in a second-team All-SEC season as a sophomore. The New Orleans native will aim to increase his NFL Draft stock with a standout senior season. Perkins' exact role in 2025 remains to be seen. There's been talk of Perkins' playing the STAR position in Blake Baker's defense, but that slot is usually manned by a defensive back. Look for LSU to take advantage of Perkins' versatility this fall. Where Whit Weeks and Harold Perkins ranked as recruits Weeks and Perkins were both among the top linebackers in the country in their respective recruiting classes. Perkins, a member of the 2022 class, was the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1-ranked linebacker. Weeks signed in 2023 and ranked No. 149 overall in the On3 Industry Rankings. Weeks was the No. 15-ranked linebacker in his class.

Two Oregon Ducks defenders earn spots on Lott Trophy watch list ahead of 2025 season
Two Oregon Ducks defenders earn spots on Lott Trophy watch list ahead of 2025 season After the offensive years of Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich, the Oregon Ducks have taken on a defensive identity over the past couple of seasons with Dan Lanning at the helm, and it has shown itself by way of defensive talent on the roster. Four of the six Ducks who were selected in the 2025 NFL draft were on the defensive side of the ball, and the number should only go up in the coming years, judging how well Oregon is recruiting on both the defensive line and in the secondary as of late. In 2025, the Ducks could have one of the best defenses in the Big Ten, led by a pair of studs who will likely be among the best in the nation at their position, and potentially first-round draft picks. Those two players are EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei and safety Dillon Thieneman, both of whom landed on the Lott Trophy watch list on Wednesday. The Lott IMPACT Trophy is a college football award given annually to a defensive player who demonstrates both outstanding performance on the field and exemplary character off the field. As a sophomore, Uiagaelei had a breakout season for the Ducks, leading the Big Ten with 10.5 sacks. This was the 10th-highest single-season sack total in Oregon history. Uiagalelei earned All-Big Ten honors, being named to the first team by the media and second team by the coaches. Meanwhile, Thieneman comes to Oregon as a transfer from Purdue after establishing himself as one of the best safeties in the nation during his first two years with the Boilermakers. In two seasons, Thieneman has racked up 210 tackles and six interceptions. He is widely regarded as one of the best defensive backs in the nation and has been garnering buzz as a potential first-round pick next season. Travis Hunter NFL Draft odds: Browns become favorite to land Heisman winner
The two-way star that finished first in Heisman voting is favored to go second in the 2025 NFL Draft — but there is plenty of time for things to change. Travis Hunter was recognized as the best player in college football last season, dominating on both sides of the ball for Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes. Now, he is expected to be selected within the first five picks come April's draft. Let's check out the odds for where Hunter will land at DraftKings Sportsbook as of April 8. Which team will Travis Hunter be drafted by? Browns: -270 (bet $10 to win $13.70 total)Giants: +190 (bet $10 to win $29 total)Patriots: +950 (bet $10 to win $105 total)Jaguars: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) At some point during the pre-draft process, Hunter was favored to go to the Browns, he was favored to go to the Patriots and favored to go to the Giants. Now, it is the Browns at No. 2 once more. In FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang's most recent mock draft, he has Hunter going No. 4 to the Pats. "The Patriots have other bigger needs, but at this point, Hunter is just too good to ignore. He's the best player in this draft and one of the most unique players I've evaluated in 25 years in the business. Mike Vrabel will love Hunter's instincts and tenacity on defense — almost as much as Drake Maye will appreciate Hunter's sharp routes and sticky hands." In college, Hunter was the stud of all studs. He led the Big 12 in receptions (96) and receiving touchdowns (15) last season, while hauling in 1,258 receiving yards in 13 games as well. But that was Hunter the receiver. Hunter the cornerback? Well, he had four interceptions and 11 passes defended, cementing his status as arguably the Buffaloes' best offensive and best defensive player. Come season's end, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy, the Lott Trophy, and the Walter Camp, Chuck Bednarik and Fred Biletnikoff awards. He was a unanimous first-team All-American, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and AP College Football Player of the Year. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
