Two people, 20s, rescued off coast of Donegal after dinghy blown out to sea
Two people were rescued off the coast of Donegal after their dinghy was blown out to sea yesterday. Emergency services were dispatched to Pollan Bay, a 2.5km beach located on the north-western tip of the Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal, on Sunday afternoon, after the two people aged in their 20s got into difficulty. Lough Swilly RNLI were tasked by Malin Head Coast Guard to launch both boats just before 4pm on July 13, with Rescue 118 and members of Gardaí also being dispatched to the scene. Both boats quickly made their way to the area and the casualties were picked up by the Atlantic 85 and taken to the shore where they were met by an ambulance and Gardaí. Joe Joyce from Lough Swilly praised the fast acting crew members: "There was a lot going on in Buncrana with the Donegal game on, the music festival and the town was really busy. "The volunteer crew did well launching both boats so quickly. There was an off-shore wind blowing, today's outcome could have been so different." Gardai confirmed that both occupants of the dinghy were picked up by the RNLI and returned to shore and no injuries have been reported at the time of writing. A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí assisted emergency services at the scene where a small dinghy boat was blown out to sea by strong winds on Sunday, 13 June, 2025 at Pollan Beach, Ballyiffen, Co.
