'World's most jealous woman' has husband take lie detector test every time

Feeling a pang of jealousy occasionally is a common human emotion, and it's not unusual for this to surface in romantic relationships from time to time. However, most individuals recognise that such feelings must be kept firmly in check, striving not to succumb to their jealous tendencies - they understand that without trust, their relationships lack the solid foundations needed for longevity. For Debbi Wood, though, managing these jealous impulses was a significant challenge. She earned the title of 'world's most jealous woman' during her appearance on This Morning in 2013, where she revealed her stringent rules for her husband, including requiring him to take a lie detector test every time he returned home. The idea originated from an offhand remark made by her husband Steve, who jokingly suggested he'd be willing to take such a test to demonstrate his fidelity when out and about. Debbi seized the opportunity, she shared on This Morning, and purchased a kit - noting that the couple lived quite a distance apart when they first started dating, which heightened her fears that Steve might be unfaithful. Steven and Debbi Wood (Image: Loughborough Echo) (Image: ITV) Debbi opened up about her insecurities in her relationship, which were exacerbated when she learned that Steve had seen someone else as they were starting to date. He argued that they hadn't agreed to be exclusive at the time, but Debbi admitted she became "resentful" due to this "slight deception". Her jealousy spiralled to such an extent that she would scrutinise Steve's bank statements and phone records. "Well, when you've got a good man, you're not going to let him go, are you?" Debbi justified her possessive actions. She even went as far as banning Steve from watching TV shows featuring women after becoming obsessed with the thought that he fancied a model in a razor advert. "One night, an advert for a women's razor came on television and I felt panicky thinking that Steve was eyeing the model up. The only thing that could put my mind at rest was banning him from watching any programmes that have women in them," Debbi confessed to MailOnline. Following their stint on This Morning, the couple dedicated time to improving their relationship. A year later, they returned to the show and reported significant progress. The routine lie detector tests they once used had become a rare occurrence, described by Steve as happening "once in a blue moon". He praised their partnership as "absolutely amazing" when Debbi managed to overcome her jealousy, which she attributed to a past "traumatic" relationship. "When we're not arguing about this, our relationship is absolutely amazing. I make her laugh in ways she's never laughed before. She makes me laugh in ways I've never laughed before," Steve shared about his marriage. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.
