Played on hard courts, the matches will happen at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, and the Grandstand. The US Open is organized by the United States Tennis Association and is the last of the four tennis Grand Slams held each year. Top-ranked players get a spot in the tournament right away. Moreover, 32 players are picked as 'seeds,' where they are placed in a manner that they don't play against each other. These seeds are chosen based on the points each athlete has earned from other tournaments during the year. Here are the lists of US Open top-ranked players from the men's and women's tours to look out for: Men: Jannik Sinner Carlos Alcaraz Alexander Zverev Taylor Fritz Jack Draper Ben Shelton Novak Djokovic Alex de Minaur Holger Rune Lorenzo Musetti Women: Aryna Sabalenka Coco Gauff Iga Swiatek Jessica Pegula Mirra Andreeva Madison Keys Zheng Qinwen Amanda Anisimova Jasmine Paolini Elena Rybakina Furthermore, the mixed doubles has a new playing format this year. This amount tops the previous highest purse in tennis history — a total of US$75 million in 2024, with an increase of 20%. The US Open increased the prize money for every round and event for all players. The 2025 US Open champions from the men's and women's categories will take home a total amount of US$5 million. Hamzah Sheeraz eyes Canelo showdown as he plans to ‘shoot for the stars'

Hamzah Sheeraz will return to the ring to make his debut at super-middleweight against former world-title challenger Edgar Berlanga this weekend at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. Sheeraz is coming off an unsuccessful first world-title challenge at middleweight, claiming a draw against Carlos Adames that many believe he was fortunate to get. But Sheeraz is now brimming with confidence at his new weight with his new trainer, Andy Lee. 'I could do one training session tonight in a sweatsuit, and I'll be on weight,' Sheeraz told Boxing News. 'I think that's why I am so chilled, because before I would be like, 'F***, I've got to make weight first and then I can concentrate on the fight'. 'But now I can make the weight, and it's all about the fight.' Sheeraz has joined the elite ranks of fighters trained by the sought-after Andy Lee, including Joseph Parker, Ben Whittaker, Tyson Fury and Paddy Donovan. Since moving his camp to Dublin, Sheeraz said that he has never experienced a bond with a coach like he has with Lee. He has taken the opportunity to absorb as much as he can from a man who has been at the very top of the sport as a fighter and trainer. 'We've gelled very well. It's easy,' Sheeraz explained. 'I haven't had this with a coach in the past, to be honest with you. I've just been enjoying it, listening to what he has said – he's been at the top, he knows what he is doing, and he is a very sure man." Buy the PPV now here Taking on Berlanga, who has shared the ring with the undisputed super middleweight champion, is a big step up in weight and calibre of opponent for Sheeraz. It would not have been surprising to see him take a tune-up fight at 168lbs before jumping to the top of the division, but the Brit believes he would be doing himself and the sport a disservice by doing so. 'You just got to look at the landscape of the sport right now as it is,' Sheeraz said. "His Excellency is taking over, putting on the best fights. I think if I did anything else, I'd be doing an injustice to the sport of boxing. I'm not someone who needs my confidence boosted to put in good performances. Put me straight in the deep end.' Turki Alalshikh has picked Sheeraz out as a fighter he has big plans for in the future, alongside the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Canelo Alvarez. "I think that's the plan,' Sheeraz confirmed on a fight with Canelo. 'But I haven't spoken about it myself - those words have not come out of my mouth. But why not shoot for the stars?' Despite the burden of expectation from the Saudi boxing boss on his shoulders and a potential fight with Canelo down the road, Sheeraz maintains that his focus is on the man in front of him, rather than any plans Alalshikh may have. 'My main focus is just Saturday night, Sheeraz said. 'Like for me, after Saturday night, there's nothing. The buck stops on Saturday night with Edgar Belanga."

Shakur Stevenson makes defiant statement ahead of William Zepeda clash

Shakur Stevenson will defend his WBC lightweight title on 12 July against William Zepeda at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, New York, as the co-main event with Hamzah Sheeraz vs Edgar Berlanga. Zepeda, 33-0 (27 kknockouts). comes into the bout with a reputation for power punching and endless stamina. Stevenson acknowledged the challenge, but insisted that he would rise to the occasion. Speaking to The Ring, the WBC champion said this is the most important fight of his career and that the occasion and his opponent will pull the best out of him. Stevenson, 23-0 (11 KOs), said: 'This fight means everything. Zepeda is a hell of a fighter. He is going to bring the best out of me.' He reiterated: 'The fans are going to see the greatest version of me.' The style match-up for this fight is one as old as the sport itself - volume vs skill. Zepeda can work relentlessly for 12 rounds, although he rarely has to with 27 knockouts in 33 fights. Meanwhile, Stevenson has incredible boxing intelligence – able to set traps, make his opponents miss and counter with blinding speed. But the American deplores the narrative of him being an evasive boxer, and has made it clear that he will prove that, despite having the differences in their records, he punches harder than Zepeda. The WBC lightweight champion said: 'Zepeda has 27 knockouts, I have eleven knockouts… [but] I punch harder than him, and I think on fight night that will be the biggest difference between me and him.' Stevenson has been under a lot of scrutiny in the last eighteen months after taking on opponents that were perhaps slightly below the standard a man of his calibre should be sharing the ring with and not putting on the lights-out performances fans expect. He said that this criticism has lit a fire inside him, and he is ready to prove to the whole world that he is the best boxer in any division. Stevenson told The Ring: 'It's a chip on my shoulder. A lot of people have been saying that I'm not the guy, I'm not as good as everybody says, and I'm overrated. I've heard a whole bunch of stuff, and now everybody has to stand by what they said.' He concluded: 'They are going to see come July 12th that I am the best fighter in the sport of boxing.' When asked if he had a read on Zepeda from their brief time sharing the stage at a press conference, Stevenson said he could feel that Zepeda was ready to jump in the ring as soon as possible. The three-weight world champion said: 'He has been waiting for this opportunity for his entire life, but when you are anxious and ready to jump in, you run into something you don't like. I don't think he is very prepared for what's going to come back.' Stevenson offered a visceral prediction for July 12 in his closing statement. He said: 'I pull out my belt and I beat the shit out of him and keep beating him all night until the referee jumps in or someone jumps in to save him.'

Hamzah Sheeraz in line for mega fight after Edgar Berlanga test, Frank Warren predicts

Hamzah Sheeraz and Edgar Berlanga will step into the ring on 12 July at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, as the co-main event alongside Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda. Sheeraz is coming off an unsuccessful first world title challenge against Carlos Adames at middleweight, after he claimed a draw, which many protested he was lucky to get. He has since moved his training camp to Dublin to develop under the sought-after Andy Lee. Meanwhile, Berlanga made a successful comeback since losing to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez by knocking out Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in the first round earlier this year, to set up this grudge match with Sheeraz. Sheeraz's promoter, Frank Warren, has weighed in on the card and the circumstances surrounding his British fighter's sudden move up to super-middleweight. Sheeraz, 26, put on an uncharacteristically quiet performance against Adames, and Warren sides with the masses, believing that he 'was fortunate to get the decision'. But the Hall of Fame Promoter told The Ring that, behind closed doors, his fighter had been struggling with the weight-cut and a hand injury which led to his dampened skills on the night. This has not affected the Queensberry Boss's confidence in Sheeraz, who will step up to super-middleweight and straight into the ring against a world-title challenger. He said that Sheeraz is a true fighting man, wasting no time in targeting the top of the 168lb division Warren said to The Ring: 'He's gone straight into the deep end. He's not just fighting a good fighter but fighting him in his backyard. No messing about – [he's] going for it.' Coming off a lacklustre draw, it would be easy to stack some pressure on Sheeraz to get a win in this fight, or he could find himself in a career purgatory – but Warren doesn't see it this way. He believes the pressure is all on Berlanga. Warren said: 'I think the pressure is on Berlanga, he's the home fighter, he's got the guy fighting up [in weight]. A lot of people fancy him to win the fight, so the pressure is on him to deliver.' This fight could have world-title implications for the super-middleweight division as Saudi adviser Turki Alalshikh has offered the winner a shot at Canelo if he comes through his undisputed showdown with Terence Crawford. Sheeraz's promoter does not want to distract his man by looking too far ahead, but believes it is a good motivator for Sheeraz to put on his best performance to date and dispel any doubt over his pedigree. The Queensberry founder said: 'He's got to put all that [a potential Canelo fight] in the back of his mind. For the winner of the Berlanga-Hamzah fight, which I believe will be Hamzah, it's a great carrot for him.'
