Elon Musk has the ‘influence' to affect members of Congress to join his theoretical new party

University of California Professor of Political Science Louis DeSipio says billionaire Elon Musk's threat to form a new political party is because he 'just wants to be in the limelight'. 'Mr Musk, if he chose to, could influence a couple of key races,' Mr DeSipio told Sky News Australia. 'If Mr Musk really wanted to have some effect, he could target a handful of members of Congress and flip control to the Democrats.'

Meeting between Albanese and Trump suspected to happen ‘soon' amid ongoing drama

University of California Professor of Political Science Louis DeSipio discusses the ongoing drama of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being unable to secure a meeting with US President Donald Trump. 'The United States recognises the importance of the relationship with Australia particularly because of our joint concerns about a Chinese expansion,' Mr DeSipio told Sky News Australia. 'The Trump administration ... does want to reach out and have a conversation. 'That hasn't happened yet, but I suspect it will pretty soon because the Trump administration knows how to stage meetings in the Oval Office when it needs to.'

US Federal Reserve raises concerns over Trump's new bill and imposed tariffs

University of California Professor of Political Science Louis DeSipio claims the Federal Reserve Board in the US has huge concerns about President Donald Trump's new bill and his imposed tariffs on the economy. 'The short-term concern is the tariffs because they will raise the cost of products in the United States ... and they're unpredictable,' Mr DeSipio told Sky News Australia. 'In the longer term, the Fed is of course concerned about the fact that the Big Beautiful Bill will increase the national debt by somewhere between $3-4 trillion. 'The Fed will have trouble borrowing that money when it needs to.'

‘The rich are getting richer and the poor pay for it': Trump's new bill critiqued by Democrats

University of California Professor of Political Science Louis DeSipio says the American leader's 'Big Beautiful Bill' is achieving 'most of what President Trump promised in his campaign'. 'In the past when Republicans and certainly Democrats have passed tax cuts, they've provided resources for poorer people … this one doesn't do that,' Mr DeSipio told Sky News Australia. 'The rich are getting richer and the poorer are paying for it and that's not a healthy system where America is already pretty divided.'
