Teen killed in multi-vehicle crash in south St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – A teen was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in south St. Louis on Thursday. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), officials were alerted to the crash just before 10:40 a.m. on westbound I-44 near Arsenal Street. Investigators reported that before the crash, a Toyota Avalon was driving westbound at high speeds. Police say the driver of the Toyota, who was later identified as an 18-year-old male, lost control of the vehicle. The car ended up rotating as it was changing lanes, ultimately T-boning a Ford F250. SLMPD reported that the driver's side of the Toyota was stuck under the rear of the Ford F250. And when arriving at the crash, officials said the 18-year-old was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford F250 sustained no injuries, according to officials. SLMPD says an investigation into the fatal crash is underway. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. At-large murder suspect arrested after wild crash in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – A Tennessee man wanted for a 2024 murder was arrested over the weekend following a brief police pursuit that culminated in a wild crash. The crash happened Sunday evening in the 4100 block of St. Louis Avenue, located in the Greater Ville neighborhood. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's probable cause statement, officers were patrolling the St. Louis Place neighborhood in a marked vehicle when they noticed a black Toyota Camry with heavily tinted windows and no front license plate. The officers attempted to make traffic stop, but the driver conducted a U-turn and sped off. The Camry went west and eventually sped through the intersection at St. Louis Ave. and North Sarah Street before hitting another car, briefly going airborne, and landing on its side between two properties. The driver and a passenger were both taken into custody. Police said officers found a Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol and a Mini Draco 7.62 caliber pistol in the vehicle, as well as suspected narcotics, cash, and a digital scale. The driver, Anthony Tobias-Haywood, 29, had an at-large warrant for his arrest in a 2024 fatal shooting. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. The victim, Daniel Hughes, was killed in a drive-by shooting while standing on the sidewalk. Hughes was taken in a private vehicle to the hospital, where he later died. He was 27. Investigators eventually determined Tobias-Haywood had rented the vehicle used in the drive-by shooting. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office charged Tobias-Haywood in October 2024 with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with Hughes' killing. Following his arrest on June 7, prosecutors also charged him with aggravated fleeing and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. Tobias-Haywood remains jailed without bond. He's due in court on June 16 for a detention hearing, followed by a preliminary hearing on July 9. Police and prosecutors said Tobias-Haywood is a convicted felon in Missouri. He was convicted in March 2016 for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, possession of a defaced firearm, second-degree burglary, stealing, and stealing a firearm. Police: Driver nearly hits St. Louis officer after street racing, doing donuts

ST. LOUIS – A driver nearly struck a St. Louis officer over the weekend while police responded to reports of drivers street racing and doing donuts. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office has charged Larreon Thompson, 20, of St. Louis, with attempted first-degree assault on a special victim and resisting arrest in the investigation. On Sunday, at an undisclosed time, officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a radio assignment near 2nd Street and Shenandoah Avenue in St. Louis' Kosciusko neighborhood, following reports of reckless driving. Sheriff pleads the Fifth repeatedly over questions about mysterious death According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, as police worked to clear the area, a driver in a black Chrysler 300 sped through the scene and ignored several traffic laws. One officer deployed spike strips as the driver accelerated toward him, forcing the officer to run toward a grassy area to avoid a collision. The accused driver, later identified as Thompson, ran over the spike strips, which deflated a rear tire. Despite the damage, Thompson continued driving away from the scene, reportedly violating several traffic lights and signs. Investigators say Thompson later made way onto Interstate 70, driving in excess of 100 mph for a brief time and weaving past traffic with his headlights off. Close Thanks for signing up!
