Met Gala 2025's secret signals and stars' 'clever' trend to one-up each other on red carpet

EXCLUSIVE: The Met Gala is here again and an expert says the famous faces in attendance will showcase a 'clever' trend as they bid to have the world's eyes on them in New York The most iconic fashion event on the calendar is here and celebrities are getting ready to "one up" each other again. This year's theme at the annual Met Gala is "Tailored for You" in connection with the Costume's Institute's landmark new exhibition, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. And some of the biggest names in world of showbiz will be battling it out on the red carpet to grab the headlines. Stateside PR guru Jane Owen revealed the trend of creating "two or more outfits in one" is set to continue. ‌ She labelled it a "clever way to 'one up' the competition, before name dropping Blake Lively's iconic 2022 look. The actress stunned at the event as her outfit dramatically unfurled into a new look. ‌ Jane admitted she also expects to see a number of political messages hit the red carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She went on: "I'm also highly expecting a political statement either for or against Trump (most likely against) and against the War in Ukraine and the Palestine Israeli humanitarian crisis in Gaza." She added that with global tension at an all time high, stylists might get "even more creative and garner even more eyeballs as people are searching for levity and brightness to lighten the mood". When asked who she think will be this year's celebrities to watch out for, Jane revealed: "There are the go-to fashion queens who never fail to amaze and delight, including Kim Kardashian, the Jenners, Rihanna, Zendaya, Beyoncé and Blake Lively. "I think Arianna Grande and Cynthia Erivo will bring it, following on from the Oscar nominations, too." ‌ But she revealed she "would love" to see a surprise moment from a younger celebrity. "There's a ripe moment for a new fashion icon to emerge," she claimed. Last year, Kim Kardashian wore a glamorous shining metallic gown to the Met Gala, while Doja Cat stepped out in just a towel for the event. Emily Ratajkowski was seen nearly naked at the 2024 offering, opting to wear a see-through crystal-covered dress, and Ariana Grade wore a corset-style white gownThis year's Met Gala sees actor Colman Domingo, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky and musician, record producer and Louis Vuitton men's creative director Pharrell Williams as the co-chairs, who host the event. ‌ While the tightly controlled guest list is kept under wraps, speculation of a "leaked list" has already began. The guests are all hand picked by Vogue Editor In Chief Anna Wintour for their relevance. It's anticipated that Madonna will make an appearance this year, along with Stevie Wonder, Lorde, Jimmy Fallon and Demi Moore. Others on the apparent leaked attendance list include Mary J Blige and Shakira.

When Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone rocked the Met Gala carpet in 2017

The Met Gala 2025 is almost here. Scheduled to take place on the 5th of this month, this years' Met Gala is sure to take all the fashionistas into the Gala World with its theme being 'Superfine', with its focus on celebrating Black dandyism from the 18th century through to its revival during Harlem Renaissance and its impact on fashion today. Similar to the previous years, this year too is expected to be a star-studded event with Indian stars like Priyanka Chopra , Shah Rukh Khan and many others gracing the event. Founded by publicist Eleanor Lambert, The Costume Institute Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest fundraising event on the fashion calendar, where famous celebrities from the world of fashion, movies, music and art come together to raise money and celebrate the grand opening of its latest exhibition. The Met Gala 2025: Scheduled to start on the 9th of May, this year actor Colman Domingo, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky and record producer, musician, and Louis Vuitton men's creative director Pharrell Williams would be co-hosting the gala alongside Anna Wintour. The past has seen some prominent celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Serena Williams and Kendall Jenner, grace the event by the invite only guest. The year 2024 also saw some prominent figures like Alia Bhatt, Mona Patel, and Sudha Reddy attend the event and make a mark at the event. Throwback to the year 2017 As the gala gets closer day by day, let's take a throwback look to the year 2017, where Bollywood' s stars made everyone's heads turn with their impeccable fashion and style. Priyanka's Striking Look: Priyanka Chopra commanded attention at the Met Gala, showcasing a striking trench coat dress crafted by Ralph Lauren. This dramatic ensemble served as a bold homage to the previous year's honoree, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, a true visionary in the fashion landscape. Chopra complemented the outfit with sleek black boots and eye-catching statement earrings. Deepika's Met Gala Look: In contrast, Deepika Padukone opted for a more conventional look, choosing a white satin gown adorned with embellishments from the Tommy Hilfiger Collection Gowns. While the gown's backless design undoubtedly enhanced Padukone's beauty, along with her embellished hair accessory, her choice drew criticism from some who felt it did not adequately align with the event's theme. We really hope this year's Bollywood beauties go all out to make a grand entrance at the Met Gala, living up to this year's theme looking 'Superfine'.
