BBC The One Show host rejects Celebrity Gladiators role 'I've got a mortgage to pay'

BBC The One Show host rejects Celebrity Gladiators role 'I've got a mortgage to pay' The TV star insisted she wouldn't risk injury on the thrilling BBC competition when probed by host Bradley Walsh. The One Show presenter Angellica Bell has declined an invitation to appear on Celebrity Gladiators, despite a personal request. ‌ The celebrity version of the much-loved BBC show made its debut last year, featuring Louise Minchin, Joel Dommett, Rob Becket and Ellie Taylor. ‌ This followed the revival of Gladiators by the BBC, marking the first time the series had been aired since its original run on ITV in 2000, showcasing a new group of superhumans demonstrating their speed, skill, stamina and strength. ‌ Bradley Walsh and his son Barney took over presenting duties from Ulrika Jonsson for the new series, and are set to return to the arena for its third season this year. Gladiators will return to the BBC soon (Image: BBC / Hungry Bear Media) However, before that, a second series of Celebrity Gladiators has just wrapped up filming, starring Joe Wicks, Sam Thompson, Nicola Adams and Vogue Williams, reports the Mirror. Article continues below During an appearance on The One Show, host Bradley gave a sneak peek into the competition, revealing: "They were fantastic, it was closer than you could possibly imagine." "You are going to be surprised, it's a brilliant show," he hinted. "They're really competitive." He then asked Celebrity Big Brother star Angellica about a potential future appearance, but she quickly insisted she would never participate, a sentiment echoed by The One Show co-host Clara Amfo. ‌ Bradley Walsh probed The One Show hosts on a future appearance on Celebrity Gladiators (Image: BBC) "Yeah you would," Bradley retorted. "No, I've got a mortgage to pay! I want to keep my teeth in check," Angellica joked. ‌ Ahead of the new celebrity edition, the participating stars expressed their anticipation and competitive spirit. Joe enthused: "Gladiators is one of the most iconic shows of all time, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be taking part. I grew up watching it, so to now step into the arena myself is going to be an incredible experience. I know it's going to be tough, but I'm ready to give it everything I've got." Rob Beckett, Joel Dommett, Ellie Taylor and Louise Minchin took part in the first Celebrity Gladiators (Image: PA) Sam chimed in: "Just when I've finished one challenge I'm onto the next, and this time I'm up against real life Gladiators! Bring it on and get me up that travelator! But on a serious note, I genuinely can't wait to take part, I'm so excited. I grew up watching the show, so to now be taking on the Gladiators in real life is really cool." Article continues below Nicola added her thoughts: "I'm absolutely buzzing to be part of the Gladiators Celebrity Special! It's such an iconic show and growing up, I loved watching the epic battles and strong personalities. Now, getting the chance to step into that arena myself, it's a whole new kind of challenge. I may be a champion in the boxing ring, but this is different. I'm ready to give it everything I've got!" And Vogue shared: "This is wild. I have loved this show since I was little and I'll be living out my childhood dream just stepping into the arena. But I can't quite process how I'll actually face these amazing Gladiators. I'm just delighted to be a contender!" The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer. Gladiators returns to BBC soon.

BBC Breakfast presenter says 'it made my heart ache' after major change-up in role

Ex I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and BBC Breakfast star Louise Minchin said the "significant moment" in her family life has sparked a new form of grief Former BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin has opened up about a bittersweet chapter in her family life, that many parents can relate to. The 56-year-old said she was feeling an "impending loss bearing down on me" after her youngest daughter, Scarlett, recently flew the nest. ‌ Louise experienced the same feelings six years prior to this, when her eldest daughter Mia left home to go to university. "Walking past her open bedroom door and seeing her bed made and the floor clear made my heart ache," she revealed. ‌ "Who knew that I would miss not just her, but her mess too? It felt like a vacuum had opened in my life that I couldn't fill, and for weeks I woke up with what felt like a dull sense of grief pressing on my chest." ‌ Now with both of her children away from the family home, Louise said she is still adjusting to what she's described as "a significant moment" that brings bittersweet feelings. While it's sad to see them leave, she expressed joy in watching them become "fully fledged adults with homes of their own". "I am lucky that they feel fearless enough to do that," she added in her column with Platinum magazine. To help get her through this chapter, Louise said she's put dates in the diary for some quality time with her daughters, which recently included a trip to Tuscany. ‌ While embracing this period together, Louise said the three had some "difficult conversations" that they "would have never touched on during snatched moments at home". This sparked a whole new realisation for the presenter and author, that her role as a mother had gone from "practical to psychological support". Furthermore, Louise said that while she communicates with her daughters as much as possible through texts and calls, she has realised it's time to enjoy her newfound freedom. "As long as they keep in touch, I have to be content with that and in the meantime, enjoy my own life, remembering at any moment they might be back," she added. ‌ Louise shares her two daughters with her long-term husband David, who she married in 1998. The former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star is best known for previously fronting BBC Breakfast for 20 years. Louise stepped down from the show in 2021 due to no longer wanting to work such "utterly gruelling" hours. To be ready on the red sofa for 6am three days a week, the mother-of-two had to set her alarm for 3.40am, which she admitted took a toll on her lifestyle. She previously told The Times: "The hours are horrific, utterly, utterly gruelling, and it has an impact on every different part of your life — when you eat, when you sleep, how you feel. It was my dream job and I absolutely loved it but I'd done it enough.'
