Piers Morgan fights off 'Baby Reindeer-style' stalker's abuse and harassment claims
Piers Morgan has revealed his own experience with a Baby Reindeer-style stalker after a woman attempted to sue him with a series of outlandish harassment claims, which he dismissed as 'absurd, complete fantasy stuff.' Last year, the 59-year-old broadcaster became the target of Felicity Jane Lowde, a woman with a history of pursuing celebrities and who has lodged 64 legal cases in the past year alone. Lowde had previously been jailed for stalking a survivor of the July 2005 London bombings. In an uncanny twist, Lowde's claims against Morgan came shortly after his viral TalkTV interview with Fiona Harvey, the woman believed to be the real-life inspiration behind the fictional stalker in Netflix's hit series Baby Reindeer, The Sun reports. Four months after the May 2024 interview, Lowde—who has never met Morgan in person—filed a claim at Central London County Court, accusing him and his company, Insider Productions Ltd, of 'abuse, harassment, fraud, and dishonesty.' Her bizarre claim was that Morgan worked with "insalubrious associates" to steal her creative work and family history, including impersonating her brother. Lowde added that Morgan was seeking to promote himself as a "lost aristocrat" and that his motive was "to compensate for his humiliation" after his public criticism of Harry and Meghan. Her claim also included a peculiar note that Morgan was sexually obsessed with toilets. Last month, Morgan won his firm's case against Lowde and the one against him personally was thrown out of court after he defended it online. Lowde will now have to pay him £6,000 in damages, but Morgan says he has "no expectation" of seeing the money. He said: 'She is a harasser, a bit like Baby Reindeer's. This could happen to anyone — whether they're in the public eye or not — at a huge personal cost.' In his witness statement, Morgan told the court that a long line of comedians, TV stars and campaigners who have been forced to take legal action to protect themselves from Lowde. She is said to have pursued Harry Potter author JK Rowling in the past, and in 2007, she was jailed for six months for stalking Rachel North - a survivor of the July 2005 London bombings. Morgan told The Sun: 'This is a convicted stalker who harassed a terror-attack survivor. It's hard to think of anything more despicable." He has also called on the courts to impose a halt upon her vexatious claims, which he says are exposing "a weakness in the system". He added: 'The fact she's targeting so many well-known people suggests she probably isn't a threat — she just likes being incredibly annoying. But she's still clearly a disturbed, unhinged human being."
