77 college teacher receive salaries after 8 months

The salaries of 77 college teacher interns from 12 colleges in Lodhran district have finally been released after an eight-month delay. The payment of salaries for these teachers had been stalled due to the Higher Education Department's failure to issue a hard copy of the budget since July 2014. Despite repeated appeals through various forums, including the Chief Minister's Portal and the deputy commissioners' open courts, the issue remained unresolved due to the unavailability of the budget document. Lodhran Deputy Commissioner Dr Lubna Nazir took up the matter with the Secretary of the Higher Education Commission. Following the implementation of an online budgeting system across the province, she coordinated with the Deputy Secretary to secure the issuance of a hard copy of the budget letter (SO(B&F) 4-33/2024/25) amounting to Rs327.412 million. This development enabled the processing of salaries and other payments for all 12 colleges in the district through the Finance Department. With the hard copy now issued, other districts in Punjab are also able to proceed with their budget allocations.

Lodhran hosts chess contest after decades

LODHRAN: Under the auspices of the district administration, Lodhran hosted its first-ever Deputy Commissioner Chess Championship, reviving the nearly extinct game in the region after 50 years. The championship, held at the Gymkhana, was inaugurated by Commissioner Multan Division Amir Khurram Khan and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Lubna Nazir, who made the first chess move to kick off the event. Over 60 participants from various government and private schools, including players from the Under-15 category and students of the Tareen Education Foundation, competed across three exciting categories. Speaking at the event, Commissioner Amir Khurram Khan emphasised the importance of promoting mental games alongside physical sports. "Chess fosters critical thinking and problem-solving. Such events will also be organized in other districts of the division," he said. Deputy Commissioner Dr Lubna Nazir was lauded for her efforts in resurrecting chess in Lodhran, an area that once saw this game flourish but lost its prominence over the decades. "This championship is a milestone in encouraging chess enthusiasts and nurturing talent in Lodhran," she remarked. The winners of the championship received cash prizes and trophies.
