Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Marvel fans were ecstatic when Charlie Cox returned as the titular hero in the Disney+ series "Daredevil: Born Again." Not only did it bring back Vincent D'Onofrio's iconic performance as Wilson Fisk, but it also meant that the Netflix Marvel series were officially being ingrained into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was later confirmed when it was revealed that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) would be joining Daredevil in Season 2. More Entertainment: 'Black Panther' Game Canceled and Studio Shockingly Shut Down by EA Now, another member of The Defenders will be returning to the MCU. However, it won't be the version fans have come to know from the divisive Netflix series. Iron Fist will appear in 'Luke Cage' Season 2. Iron Fist will appear in 'Luke Cage' Season 2. Marvel Netflix According to Kambole Campbell of Variety, Iron Fist will be returning to the MCU in the upcoming "Eyes of Wakanda" animated series. "There will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you expect," director Todd Harris said. 'EYES OF WAKANDA' will officially include Iron Fist but 'not the Iron Fist you expect' (Source: — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) June 9, 2025 That being said, there are plenty of things about "Eyes of Wakanda" that seem to defy expectations. More Entertainment: Chris Hemsworth Video Has Fans Thinking He's Leaving MCU A spin-off of the "Black Panther" films, "Eyes of Wakanda" will be a four-episode series that will be "hop-scotching through centuries." This means that each episode will be a stand-alone story in the country's history. For example, the first episode takes place in 1260 BC and follows "a disgraced former Dora Milaje named Noni" as she pursues a former Wakandan guard who became a pirate and sails under the moniker "The Lion." Needless to say, it seems that everything in this series will be unlike anything Marvel fans have seen before from the MCU. And maybe that's a good thing. More Entertainment: Ryan Coogler Confirms Denzel Washington Has a Part in 'Black Panther 3' While most of the Netflix Marvel series were popular, "Iron Fist" proved to be the most critically maligned, with Season 1 receiving a shockingly low 20 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. While Season 2 improved, it still only received a 55 percent critics' score. However, the audience scores were better, with Season 1 receiving 71 percent and Season 2 receiving 61 percent. Given that "Eyes of Wakanda" takes place across history, it will be interesting to see what time period Iron Fist will enter the series. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 teases Defenders MCU debut
Daredevil: Born Again that debuted early this year, follows Matt Murdock during one of the darkest chapters of his life. In the new Disney series, Matt finds himself fighting to survive as his world unravels. Armed with intimate knowledge of Matt's life, the Kingpin launches a brutal campaign to dismantle it—arranging his disbarment, freezing his assets, and destroying his personal reputation. Season 2 now teases the long-awaited debut of the full Defenders lineup in the Marvel Cinematic Universe . With Jessica Jones , Luke Cage, and Danny Rand officially part of MCU canon, it's only a matter of time before the team reunites on screen. Luke Cage and Iron Fist stars Mike Colter and Finn Jones teased as much, sharing Instagram stories that confirmed they're in New York at the same time (Colter even commented "My dude" on Jones' post). An observant fan found compelling evidence that further stoked the fire of this speculation. This gave fans the impression that they were filming sequences for Born Again, although they haven't responded to the rumours yet. A street-level superhero crossover was hinted at by show-runner Dario Scardapane . This was established in Season 1 when Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) had to gather an army of insurgents because the odds were stacked against him. Danny acknowledged that this would have been the perfect time to bring in the defenders, but they wanted to "create a completely organic" build-up to that reunion. "When you're working in what I would call the Hell's Kitchen corner of the MCU, those iconic characters are always in your mind," he told Entertainment Weekly. "...You want to bring in people and relationships and past figures in Matt's life because they help the story,' he further elaborated. Born Again is the perfect opportunity for the Defenders' MCU debut. Depending on audience reception, the show could also be a launch pad for Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist spinoffs. Born Again could resolve their storylines.

Krysten Ritter Comments on Returning as Jessica Jones in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN and There's "Much More in Store" — GeekTyrant
Yesterday, news broke that Krysten Ritter is officially returning as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Ritter has since commented on the big announcement, saying: "It's so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders and now joining the MCU. I'm so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!" I love that Ritter is joining the fold, and now we have two Defenders down, with two to go… Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, but I could do with out Jones' version of Iron Fist. Who know if those characters will even return. I hope that Ritter's involvement in the next season will involve a decent sized and meaningful story arc, maybe something that leads to a Jessica Jones Marvel Special Presentation, like Jon Bernthal got for The Piunisher. The character is just a interesting, unique and one of the more complex and compelling heroes Marvel TV ever gave us, and she deserves the spotlight. As Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 gears up for its March 2026 premiere, we'll be watching closely for more news. Source: Variety

Review: Disney+'s 'Daredevil: Born Again' is a flat rerun of the Netflix show
Heroes come and heroes go, years pass, but some things stay the same. It's been a decade since Charlie Cox first donned the red-horned mask of Daredevil, the crime-fighting Marvel hero who makes up for his lack of sight with other preternaturally heightened senses and reflexes, on the dark and bloody Netflix series. Things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the TV industry at large, were very different back in 2015: Thanos was a flicker in the Avengers' eyes, Spider-Man was most recently played by Andrew Garfield and you could count the number of major streaming services on one hand. Without a streaming service of its own, Marvel branched out to Netflix for some very mature shows about their "street level" heroes, the guys who are more worried about purse-snatchers than planet-enders. "Daredevil" was the first, followed by "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage," "Iron Fist," "The Punisher" and "The Defenders." They were all unceremoniously canceled as priorities changed and the shiny, A-list Disney+ Marvel shows ("WandaVision" and "Loki") became the priority in the MCU. But pop culture is cyclical, and as some complain of Marvel fatigue, the always-adapting comics-based studio is happy for everything old to be new again. And so we have "Daredevil: Born Again" (streaming Tuesdays, ★★ out of four), a revival of "Daredevil," this time on Disney+, a streaming service that once balked at the idea of mature content rubbing shoulders with "Frozen" and "Star Wars." After Disney+ began streaming those old Marvel Netflix shows a few years ago, it became clear there was an audience for more macabre violence and despair in the streets of New York. With Cox back in the red jumpsuit and the excellent Vincent D'Onofrio willing to go bald again to play archenemy Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, "Born Again" came together faster than Daredevil could stop a mugging. It's all neat, tidy and reeking of corporate synergy. But while it looks and smells the same as the old "Daredevil," it doesn't feel quite as ambitious and exciting. It's a very good copy, but the creativity and exhilaration were lost in the reach for fidelity. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle. So what's the "where are they now" scoop on the "Daredevil" crew? Well, they're pretty much in the exact same place they were back when all this started. Matt Murdock (Cox) fights crime in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood by night as Daredevil, and injustice by day as a lawyer, alongside his friends Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). When he suffers a devastating personal tragedy, Matt decides to hang up his mask and focus on helping people through his law practice. But New York doesn't sleep, and neither do Daredevil's enemies. While Matt is in semiretirement, crime boss Fisk comes back from his and decides to run for mayor, seemingly with all good intentions. But clearly, something nefarious is underpinning his campaign. Between Fisk's shenanigans and a case that hits Matt very close to his vigilante justice home, the Daredevil alter ego is probably not gone for good. The new series captures the moody aesthetic of its predecessor, as Cox and D'Onofrio easily slide back into the roles and the scene lighting is turned way down. With a new creative team at the helm ‒ Matt Corman and Chris Ord ("Covert Affairs"), replacing Drew Goddard and Steven S. DeKnight ‒ Daredevil still broods, practices law and pummels the required criminals and villains to within an inch of their lives. Other faces from the Netflix series reappear, including Jon Bernthal's fan-favorite take on The Punisher, and the writers make a worthy effort to relate the comic-book drama to the world in 2025 in its portrayal of politics and systemic injustice. Despite all this, it almost feels like the series is purposefully courting the average. It is a "good enough" copy of what was originally stunning. When it premiered, the first "Daredevil" was one of the few takes on superheroes as complex, morally gray and deeply violent. Ten years and two "Suicide Squad" movies later, that is sort of a tired trope. The original series, in its superb first season, sought new and stark ways to shoot its fight scenes, surprising us but never inuring us to the brutal violence. A famous bloodbath in a dimly lit hallway is likely stuck in the memory of anyone who watched it. "Born Again" can't find that greatness. In the producers' desire to replicate something beloved they have ended up plagiarizing themselves: Too much of "Born Again" feels like something we've already seen. Great TV shows can and should strive for consistency season after season, but they also grow and change to keep the story interesting. Most don't have a seven-year hiatus between go-rounds, but hey, Larry David kept "Curb Your Enthusiasm" the same but different enough, on and off for 24 years. The new/old version of Daredevil will scratch the itch of anyone looking for fewer complications from Marvel, which in its fifth "phase" of storytelling is churning out increasingly convoluted and mediocre shows and films. "Born Again" is, at least, straightforward in its structure and narrative. Do you want a dark superhero? You've got a dark superhero. And maybe that's enough to satisfy some. But there's enough "good-enough" TV on the air right now. I want someone to try to be great.
