Who are The Outdoor Boys? Social media in disbelief as their favorite content creator says 'Goodbye'

If you've ever gone down the YouTube rabbit hole of survival hacks, cabin building, or just wholesome family adventures, then you've probably come across The Outdoor Boys . It's a channel led by Luke Nichols and his three sons—Tommy, Nate, and Jacob—and it's been all about mixing wild outdoor skills with those heartwarming father-son moments. But just when their fanbase was booming, Luke dropped a surprise bomb: they're stepping back from posting regularly. So, what's the deal? The Outdoor Boys started back in 2015 and it's basically a window into the Nichols family's outdoor life. We're talking building off-grid cabins in Alaska, fishing trips, camping, and even nerf gun battles—yes, nerf guns in the wilderness! Luke, who's originally from Anchorage, Alaska, is the brains behind it all, with his boys always right by his side. The family splits their time between Fairfax, Virginia, and a remote cabin up in Alaska, living that nature-immersed life and sharing it all with millions of fans. The channel grew steadily over the years, but things really blew up in 2024. In just a year and a half, The Outdoor Boys gained over 12 million subscribers, hitting nearly 15 million total. Their videos racked up billions of views, with everything from tough survival challenges to fun family projects. Then, in May 2025, Luke posted a heartfelt five-minute video called 'Goodbye,' where he explained why they're hitting pause on regular uploads. The main reasons? Fame got a little too intense, and he wants to focus on keeping his family safe and happy. With all the attention they suddenly got, it became harder for the family to have a normal life. Luke was worried about how the nonstop spotlight might affect his kids, and he wants to protect their privacy. That 'Goodbye' video blew up—13 million views in just three days. Fans and the internet just can't wrap their heads around it. One user tweeted, 'BREAKING: Outdoor Boys (14.8m subs) just announced they're retiring the channel for now. One of the most wholesome creators stepping back because of fame and to focus on his kids and helping others. End of an era.' Another said, 'Outdoor Boys quits YouTube? Man came out of nowhere, made thousands of hours of solid videos, hit 14 million subs, then quits at the peak to protect his family. What a legend.' And one more chimed in, 'Outdoor Boys went out on top. In a world full of fake watches, rented Lambos, and scammy crypto courses, they did it right. Left when everyone wanted more. That rarely happens these days. Respect.' The Outdoor Boys have definitely left a mark on the YouTube scene, showing off the beauty of nature and what family time really means. Their decision to step back reminds us that internet fame isn't always as glamorous as it looks, and sometimes, you gotta put family first. Fans are still sending love and thanking them for all the amazing memories and adventures they shared.

Why Outdoor Boys Saying Goodbye To YouTube Is A Bittersweet Ending

Last Updated: Outdoor Boys run by Luke Nichols posted his last video on the YouTube channel announcing his sudden departure from the platform. Luke Nichols, the man behind the highly popular YouTube channel 'Outdoor Boys", recently uploaded a rare video that nobody wanted to click on. The caption of the video read 'Goodbye", and the uncharacteristic short length of the video indicated that this wasn't clickbait. Heck, Outdoor Boys is anything but clickbait. His departure from the video-sharing platform came as a rude shock to his 15+ million subscribers. His stepping away from video creation that he has been doing for 11 years and having posted 1110 videos on the website has sent a bittersweet feeling among his tightly-knit community. 'Hey everyone, this is going to be my last video for a little while. You know, I've been making YouTube videos for 11 years now. First with the Catfishing Carp YouTube channel, then with this, the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel. And believe it or not, I've made 1,110 videos," Nichols said in his final video. Outdoor Boys Considered a legend in the modern era of YouTube, little did Nichols know that his humble channel of outdoor adventures, hiking, fishing, extreme camping trips that his kids and wife sometimes are a part of would explode and make 'Outdoor Boys" the center of attention. From 3 millions subscribers to over 15 million subscribers in about 18 months has put 'Outdoor Boys" in the list of top-most followed YouTube channels in the world. At the time of writing this, 'Outdoor Boys" has 2,569,384,689 views. In his farewell video, Nichols admitted that there were certain channels that routinely stole his content and brought him and his family much more attention that they had ever anticipated or desired. He added that his wife and him had real life concerns regarding the kind of impact 'Outdoor Boys" would have on their family if he continued to grow on the platform at such a monumental pace. It is time for him to stop, he asserted, adding that he had to stop sooner rather than later before the situation got out of hand. 'It's time to step back and focus on helping other people for a change, and I'm excited to see where that takes me," Nichols added, stating that he would assist his oldest son, Tom, in his YouTube endeavours. 'I want to spend more time helping him with his channel and preparing him to be an adult, which is going to be in less than six years. But I've spent so much time focusing on me." Fans Have His Back Disappointed by his departure, his loyal fans still backed his decision, especially at a time when he could perhaps make a fortune out of a highly lucrative channel he has painstakingly build through a decade of hard work, passion, and endless wholesome content. 'good thing there are bajillions of videos to enjoy. sad to say goodbye but what a gift he's given us all. I was in a difficult place when I discovered the Outdoor Boys channel and it really helped me start to turn my life around. I think the fact that Luke chose to use this final message (for a while) to tell us all to carry the torch and help others is a testament to his faith and goodness and is at the core of why so many of us love the channel so much. Honor him and pass on the love, (sic)" an Outdoor Boys fan wrote on Reddit. 'I love the fact he probably has millions of dollars from YouTube and he drives a Kia. The man could go buy some tricked out Escalade or Yukon since it's Alaska, but he drives a Kia Sedona. That other kei truck he has for the remote property, that probably cost as much as the Kia. He didn't get an Atlas or some crazy tank like machine developed in Russia to conquer harsh conditions, he got that. That's humble. He probably paid off his house, fully funded his kids college educations, maxed out his retirement account and put the rest in stocks, bonds and high yield savings. He didn't go buy a Lamborghini and Bentley then start flying private to flex. He was humble. Maybe he'll do that now…(sic)," another user chimed in. What's The Future? Although this wasn't a final goodbye, Nichols will be offline till the end of the year. But that also comes with a catch. He has several unfinished projects that, if he finishes, will be uploaded towards the end of 2025. 'But if I decide to finish those videos or if I decide to film any other adventures after today, I'll post them at the end of the year all in one big dump. But no matter what, this is going to be my last video for a while." Till then, the lawyer-turned-YouTuber will help out his boy Tom with his YouTube channel titled 'Outdoor Tom". Legendary YouTuber quits channel after becoming too famous for his family to have a 'normal life'

Popular YouTube creator Luke Nichols, who runs the channel Outdoor Boys, has quit the platform after 11 years - citing the need to spend more time with his family. Nichols, who had almost 15 million followers on his channel, rose to fame by showcasing his outdoor adventures like camping and fishing - as well as sharing survival skills and exploration. However, in a five-minute video posted on Saturday, the father-of-three said he is now stepping back from making a content 'for a little while' to spend more time with his family. In the video - aptly titled Goodbye - the creator explained he has gained almost 12 million of his followers in the past 18 months alone, adding that the sudden rise to fame has been difficult on his personal life. 'It's been a wild ride,' Nichols explained in the video. 'The amount of time and energy that I've dedicated to making YouTube videos is hard to communicate,' he continued. 'So many late nights editing and packing and unpacking camping with pneumonia building log cabins while injured, but it's been a tremendous adventure and it's allowed me to provide for my family while making wonderful memories with my wife and kids,' the outdoorsman said. Despite the enjoyment he has achieved from making content, the thrill seeker admitted that 'even good things can be taken too far.' 'I think I'm starting to reach that point,' he added. Nichols went on to explain that the public attention he and his sons, Tommy, Nathan and Jacob, and wife Rebecca, now receive is 'overwhelming,' and they have 'real concern' about what the fame could do to their family. 'The sheer volume of fans trying to contact me, trying to take pictures with me, or just trying to come up and talk to me in public can be a bit overwhelming at times,' Nichols said. 'And my wife and I, we both have real concerns about what this will do to our family if I keep growing my YouTube channel at this pace,' he said of his decision. The doting dad pointed out, 'the time to stop is before this problem gets so out of hand that my family and I can't live normal lives.' 'I still enjoy going on adventures but it's time to start focusing on other thing,' he said passionately. 'I've spent so much time focusing on me and my family and growing my business, it's time to step back and focus on helping other people for a change and I'm excited to see where that takes me,' he said. Nichols he still has some extreme camping trips and travel adventures that have been in the works for 'the last six months.' He assured fans if he does decide to film and finish his future adventures he will post the videos on his channel in 'one big dump' at the end of the year. While comments were turned off on YouTube, followers took to Instagram to share their sorrow. 'Thank you for all the memories man, I'm so happy you were able to retire on a high note,' one user commented. 'Luke, Rebecca, Tommy, Nathan and Jacob! What a nice family you are. It's been fun getting to know your personalities on your videos,' wrote another. 'And what wonderful memories you've made for your kids! You all are excellent at showing how families can get outdoors and have fun visiting places around the world. My family and I hope to follow your example.' 'Enjoy what you've created, Luke. Congratulations for being yourself in each piece of content and sharing your adventures with your family, many times I felt like a part of. hasta siempre!' wrote another.

Outdoor Boys' Luke Nichols calls time on YouTube before ‘things get out of hand' (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — It's official. Popular nature YouTuber Luke Nichols, best known for his channel Outdoor Boys, is saying goodbye to millions of fans. Nichols, whose channel has 15 million subscribers, recently posted a surprise farewell video announcing he would be stepping away from content creation. His journey on the platform began 11 years ago with his first channel, Catfish and Carp. The father of three, widely admired for his outdoor adventure and camping videos, shared that his decision was not solely due to the time and effort required to produce content, but also because of the increasing attention he and his family have been receiving from fans. In the four-minute video, Nichols expressed concern about the explosive growth of his channel and the level of exposure his family has received through his videos, which often include his wife and children. 'In just the last 18 months, this YouTube channel has gained 12 million subscribers and because of people stealing my content and posting it on other social media platforms, my family and I have been viewed for about four billion times, in addition to the 2.8 billion views on YouTube. 'The sheer volume of fans trying to contact me, trying to take pictures with me or just try to come and talk to me in public, could be a bit overwhelming at times. 'And my wife and I had real concerns about what this could do to our family if I keep growing my YouTube channel at this pace and the time to stop is before this problem gets so out of hand and my family and I can't live normal lives,' he said. Nichols added that his decision was also motivated by a desire to focus on other aspects of life, including raising his three sons and helping others. Although this will be his last video for the foreseeable future, Nichols reassured fans that he plans to upload a series of videos from unfinished projects later this year. These will include extreme camping trips, homesteading content, and travel adventures. 'But no matter what, this is going to be my last video for a while. 'Now I know there's some of you out there that got more than just entertainment from my videos. 'If you feel my videos have helped you in some way, then go out and find someone you can help. I'll see you guys later,' Nichols said before the video cut to a montage of memorable moments from past uploads. Since its release yesterday (May 17), the 'Goodbye' video has racked up over eight million views, with many fans expressing shock and sadness online. 'Today is a bit of a sad one #outdoorboys,' tweeted X user @aightyden. 'Waking up and realising Outdoor Boys retired from YouTube. You will be missed,' posted @Vumana1.
