MCBA nabs 22 foreigners at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) foiled an attempt by 22 foreigners to enter the country illegally through operations conducted at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2. MCBA said 21 of them were denied entry to Malaysia, while one was detained for allegedly using forged travel documents. "The first attempt involved six Cambodians, including an individual believed to be acting as a carrier. "All of them did not know each other and claimed to have come to Malaysia to seek asylum. "However, investigations found that they failed to submit any supporting documents for their asylum applications as stipulated," the agency said in a statement today. MCBA said three Indonesians were detected abusing the 90-day single entry visa facility. It said investigations found that they failed to give a strong justification for the purpose of entry, did not have proof of accommodation booking and did not have return flight tickets. "Further investigation found that they were suspected of trying to enter the country to work illegally," he said. The agency said it also arrested a Chinese citizen after he was found to be using a passport with suspicious endorsements. "The suspect is believed to have obtained an entry and exit stamp illegally using the flying method and misused travel documents. "The suspect is now being detained for further investigation for forgery of documents and attempted exit without legal procedures," it said. The agency said it arrested 12 people, consisting of seven Indians and five Pakistanis who tried to pass the immigration check counter without going through valid checks. All were issued with notices of refusal and will be sent back to their country immediately on the earliest flight.

China's Wang Yi arrives in Malaysia to attend 58th AMM meetings

SEPANG: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Kuala Lumpur today to attend high-level talks held in conjunction with the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) here. Wang and his entourage were received at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 11pm. International media reported yesterday that Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will attend a series of ministerial meetings in Kuala Lumpur from July 10 to 11. These include the China-Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting; the Asean Plus Three (APT) Foreign Ministers' Meeting involving China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea; as well as the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting. He is also scheduled to attend the Asean Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Malaysia is currently hosting the 58th AMM and related meetings under its 2025 Asean Chairmanship theme, "Inclusivity and Sustainability". A total of 24 foreign ministers-level meetings will be held, including bilateral discussions with Asean's external dialogue partners — Australia, Canada, China, the European Union (EU), India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In addition, four trilateral meetings involving Malaysia, the Asean Secretariat, and sectoral dialogue partners — Brazil, Norway, Switzerland and Turkiye — are also scheduled. This marks the fifth time Malaysia is chairing Asean, having previously held the position in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015. - Bernama

AirAsia flight to China turns back due to engine fire, lands safely

An AirAsia flight bound for China returned to Kuala Lumpur due to an engine fire shortly after takeoff and landed safely with no injuries reported, Malaysian authorities said on Thursday. Flight AK128 on an Airbus, was en route to Shenzhen but turned back to Kuala Lumpur International Airport after a "pneumatic ducting burst" caused a fire in the right engine shortly after its 9:59 pm (1359 GMT) departure on Wednesday, the Selangor state fire department said in a statement. The fire was completely extinguished by the plane's in-built system before it landed safely slightly after midnight, the department said, adding all 171 passengers and crew were unharmed. Fire department personnel ensured passengers and crew exited the aircraft and checks were made to ensure no further fires erupted, the department said. AirAsia's parent company, Capital A, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
