Developers provide update on multi-family housing planned for former Donelson Bowl property

DONELSON, Tenn. (WKRN) — Donelson Bowl permanently closed its doors in 2023, but construction on the apartments that were supposed to replace it has not yet started. Developers said the project has taken time to get started, but it's still going to happen. The site of what once was Nashville's oldest bowling alley, which had been owned by Crescent Bowling Company since 1960, currently sits vacant. However, Lynece Benton-Stewart, who operates a profit nearby, told News 2 that Donelson Bowl still holds memories for her. Speeding driver destroys sign at Donelson business 'My family used to come out to the bowling alley,' Benton-Stewart said. '…They did leagues and different things like that.' The bowling alley was sold to the Ohio-based Pizzuti Companies — the same developer of the downtown luxury hotel The Joseph. The developers are set to build a 154-unit multi-family housing on the property that sits alongside Donelson Pike. 'Nashville continues to be one of the most dynamic real estate markets in the country, which is why we're eager to begin work on our Donelson multifamily project,' Joel Pizzuti, president and CEO of The Pizzuti Companies said in a statement. 'While it has taken longer to get this project started than we had hoped, we're committed to breaking ground later this year.' ⏩ It's a project those who live and work nearby, like Benton-Stewart, await. 'We already have a hard time getting out of this door with traffic the way it is,' Benton-Stewart said. While Donelson Bowl is no more, its legacy still remains — as does the iconic bowling center's sign. Joslin & Son Signs, a neon sign company in Nashville, told News 2 the sign has been stored.
