Lú Festival of Light to return to Drogheda bringing ancient myths and modern legends

The 2025 edition will bring stories from Cú Chulainn and Ferdia, The Morrigan, and Queen Maeve's Tain march, alongside a tribute to the remarkable people and achievements of Drogheda. The festival celebrates Drogheda's involvement with mythical stories, with the town located so close to Brú na Boinne and the sailor-poet Amergin said to have landed on the banks of the Boyne. Lú Festival of Light 2025 is set to be the premier urban animation and lighting event in the country this year and will deliver dazzling displays, rich storytelling, extraordinary street performance and immersive atmosphere within the town. Through story telling light displays and captivating light and sound performances, Drogheda's streets will be transformed into a living canvas of story. Deputy chief executive of Louth Count Council, Thomas McEvoy welcomed the longevity of the festival: 'Lú Festival has become a highlight in Louth's cultural calendar, and we're proud to support it for the fourth consecutive year. 'This October, the festival promises to captivate audiences once again with powerful stories from our legendary past while shining a well-deserved spotlight on the town of Drogheda. 'We look forward to another exciting celebration of our rich heritage, creativity and community spirit and see what new events this year festival will bring.' Ryan Vail of Visual Spectrum said: 'We design moments that stop people in their tracks, where story, technology, and place come alive. It's not just a festival it's a new way of seeing the town.' The Lú Festival of Light is delivered in partnership by Love Drogheda Business Improvement District (BID), produced by Visual Spectrum, and funded by Louth County Council, Love Drogheda BID, Drogheda Councillors and supported by Failte Ireland.
