1cr penalty collected for illegal mining
Kanpur: The enforcement wing of the mining department has so far realised around Rs 1.09 crore as penalties from illegal mining and the vehicles used in it in the current financial year.
In a review meeting with district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, the mining officer said that Rs 17.75 lakh were realised as penalties against half a dozen JCBs and seven vehicles. Similarly, Rs 82.12 lakh were realised from 204 vehicles and Rs 10.50 lakh from 24 vehicles through the online M-check system.
The DM directed further speeding up of enforcement operations and prevention of overloading at all costs.
The mining official said that a check gate and command centre are being set up near the Steel Authority of India at Panki on the Jhansi-Kanpur national highway.
He added that vehicles transporting sub-minerals would be monitored. The district magistrate directed that this system should be operational by Sep 30. He said that it was mandatory for vehicles engaged in mineral transportation to have high-security number plates and mine tags with
