Bharat Bandh partially disrupts public services in Visakhapatnam
Public services were partially disrupted across the city on Wednesday due to the Bharat Bandh, called by 10 central trade unions. Protesters took to the streets, blocking public transport, and forcing closure of several government offices, banks, and schools. Some private and corporate schools also voluntarily declared a holiday. The strike was led locally by CITU district general secretary R.K.S.V. Kumar, AITUC district president M. Manmadha Rao, and INTUC district general secretary B. Nagabhushanam. Senior leaders, including CITU state general secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao, AITUC national vice- president D. Adinarayana, and INTUC State general secretary Mantri Rajasekhar, strongly criticised the Union Government's policies and reforms. Speaking at the rally, Mr. Narasinga Rao alleged that the Centre's economic reforms were aimed at weakening the public sector and eroding workers' rights. 'The government is prioritising corporate interests and undermining the public sector, which is a dangerous trend for the country,' he said. A major demand raised was to stop the privatisation of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), particularly the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Members of the Insurance Corporation Employees Union (ICEU), affiliated with the All India Insurance Employees Association, also joined the one-day strike. Employees from 21 branches in the Visakhapatnam division participated in the protest. Former MLC M.V.S. Sarma, addressing the gathering, condemned the government's push to privatise banks, LIC, steel plants, and other key PSUs. He termed the proposal to raise FDI in insurance to 100% as 'harmful' and criticised the imposition of GST on life and health insurance premiums. He also demanded the immediate repeal of the newly introduced four labour codes, calling them 'regressive' and 'anti-worker.'

Make general strike on July 9 a success, leaders of All Party Trade Unions urge people
Leaders of All Party Tade Unions called upon workers and the general public to make the proposed All India general strike on July 9, a success. A meeting of the All Party Trade Unions was held at the CITU Office at Jagadamba Junction here on Tuesday. Condemning the 'pro-corporate' and 'anti-worker' policies of the Union government, the speakers alleged that 29 labour laws were amended and four labour codes were brought out to the detriment of the workers. They said, if these labour codes were implemented, the workers would lose their right to strike, right to form a trade union and their primary right to bargain for a fair wage. They noted that the general strike was being held to demand fixation of minimum wage for workers at ₹26,000, withdrawal of the plan to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP), taking back the 4,000 contract workers, who were terminated from service in VSP, against privatisation of public sector LIC, banks, ports and airports, oil PSUs, defence, space and mines. They also sought bringing out a comprehensive Act to provide PF, ESI and insurance to unorganised sector workers like auto drivers, muta workers, pushcart vendors and motor workers. They also demanded filling up of the vacancies in government and public sector organisations. The speakers demanded that the minimum pension for EPS pensioners be fixed at ₹9,000 and a comprehensive Act be brought out to protect the interests of domestic workers. They said that as a run up to the general strike, from June 25 to 30, workers would distribute pamphlets at their work spots and in residential colonies to create awareness among the general public on the need to make the strike a success. Gate meetings would be held at all industries from July 1 to 4. A bike rally would be held in the city on July 5, and in the industrial area on July 7. A rally would be held from Dondaparthy to the Gandhi statue, near GVMC, where a public meeting would be held on July 9. A poster on the All India General Strike on July 9 was released on the occasion. AITUC district president M. Manmadha Rao, INTUC district secretary Eswara Rao, CFTUI All India president N. Kanaka Rao, IFTUI State secretary M. Venkateswarlu, APFTU district secretary K. Deva, Public Sector Coordination Committee convener K.M. Srinivas, co-conveners Jyothiswara Rao and Kumara Mangalam, and AITUC senior leader Sk. Rahaman were among those who participated.

Trade unions stage protest against dismissal of contract workers in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
Leaders and activists of the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Vedika and the CITU have demanded that the authorities concerned, including the RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant management, the Centre and the coalition government in the State, stop the dismissal of contract workers and reinstate the dismissed workers. Raising slogans against the authorities, the activists participated in a protest (Rasta Roko) from Gandhi Statue at the GVMC office to the RTC complex here on Monday. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CITU and AITUC district leaders R.K.S.V. Kumar, M. Manmadha Rao and Ch. Narasinga Rao alleged that the Union government has almost completed all efforts to sell the RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, and the first step has been taken with the announcement of the strategic sale of the plant in the Modi 2.0 government itself. However, they said that the plant was saved from privatisation due to strong opposition from Left parties like CPI and CPI(M), and the trade unions. During the elections, the Jana Sena Party and Telugu Desam Party had made grand promises to save the steel plant if they come to power. But now the parties failed to honour the promises, thereby cheating the workers of the plant and their families and also the people of the city, they alleged. Police forces were deployed at the protest site of the contract workers of the plant. They have completely taken control of the protest site, said Mr. Kumar.
