Trade unions stage protest at Vijayamohini Mills
A joint committee of various trade unions of the Vijayamohini Mills, a unit of National Textile Corporation (NTC) in Thiruvananthapuram, staged a protest at the mill on Wednesday by blocking the entry of the company management.
The workers staged the protest raising various demands including the reopening of the mill which has remained closed for five years since the COVID-19 outbreak and the payment of pending salaries and other benefits. The protest ended with the management promising to take up the issues with the NTC.
Mill workers affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) took part in the protest.
M.T. Antony, secretary of the Trivandrum Textile Workers' Union, affiliated to the CITU, said that the workers will take over the mill's lands to carry out farming if their demands are not met within the stipulated time.
