Pall of gloom as Tishant laid to rest

Final journey: A hearse ferrying Tishant's body leaving the family home in Seri Alam to be brought to the Hindu crematorium in Jalan Kebun Teh. Mourners pay last respects to six-year-old boy who was allegedly murdered JOHOR BARU: Sorrow hung over a house in Seri Alam, near Masai here. As close relatives wept, family and friends gathered to pay their final respects to the six-year-old boy who was allegedly murdered and buried in a remote part of Negri Sembilan. Mourners arrived quietly, some carrying garlands to be placed on M. Tishant's casket during the funeral that began at 8am yesterday. His distraught mother, who was rushed to hospital a day earlier, had been discharged and arrived just before the hearse carrying Tishant's remains left the house at about 10.45am for the Hindu crematorium in Jalan Kebun Teh here for the final rites. His father, now under arrest, was absent. The family declined to speak to the media. Johor women, family and community development committee chairman Khairin Nisa Ismail said the traumatised mother had been sent to hospital for treatment. 'We sent officers from the state Welfare Department to offer assistance to the family, but they declined the support,' she said. Her office, she said, was awaiting the medical report before arranging psychological support and other forms of assistance for the family. Tishant was reported missing from his home on July 24 and his body was found four days later, buried near a railway line in Rompin, Jempol, far from any residential area. The 36-year-old father has been arrested to assist in the investigation. The remand order expires today. The child is believed to have been strangled to death with cable ties. Police have also recovered a hoe believed to have been used to bury the body. 'The medical team estimates that the victim died between 9am and 11am on July 23,' Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, as well as under the Child Act 2001. On July 22, the boy's mother had lodged a police report alleging that her husband assaulted her and forcibly took their son. The father lodged a report on July 24 claiming the child went missing near a coffeeshop in Taman Bukit Indah, Iskandar Puteri.

6-year-old missing boy's body found in forest; father who reported him missing arrested

MALAYSIA: A six-year-old boy who was reported missing in Johor Bahru last week is now believed to have been murdered by his own biological father. The child, identified as M. Tishant, was last seen on Jul 24 in Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru. After four days of frantic searching, police found a body believed to be that of the missing boy across state lines, in a forest in Negeri Sembilan. The remains were found around 4:30 p.m. on Monday (Jul 28), following the arrest and confession of the boy's 36-year-old father. The suspect led the police to the site where the child's body had been buried. The investigation began as a missing persons case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with child neglect, but based on the new evidence and the suspect's confession, the police are now treating this as a murder case under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Section 302 carries the death penalty or a prison sentence of up to 40 years, along with whipping, upon conviction. The local press reported that it was the father himself who first lodged the missing person's report at around 2:15 a.m. on July 24, claiming that his son had vanished. Police say the suspect is cooperating with the investigation, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing. Police: Six-year-old Tishant died after neck strangled with cable tie

SEREMBAN: Six-year-old M. Tishant, whose body was found buried near a railway track in Rompin, died from strangulation caused by pressure to the neck. Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a post-mortem revealed that the boy had been killed using a cable tie. He said the procedure began at noon at the Rembau Hospital Forensics Unit, and the body was released at 4.26pm. "The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as compression to the neck. "In this case, it is believed to have been inflicted using a cable tie," he said today. Ahmad Dzaffir said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive, but initial questioning suggests the suspect was facing marital issues and undergoing a divorce. "So far, the suspect has not been cooperative. The exact motive is still under investigation," he added. It was reported that the boy's body was discovered in Rompin at 4.30pm yesterday, about five days after he was reported missing in Johor. Police arrested the boy's 36-year-old father on the same day he lodged a missing persons report on July 24. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police also said the father, who has been remanded for seven days since July 25, is being investigated for child neglect and for lodging a false report.
