Iconic '80s Rocker, 57, 'Still Sounds 25' During Epic Performance
Iconic '80s Rocker, 57, 'Still Sounds 25' During Epic Performance originally appeared on Parade. As frontman for the chart-topping heavy metal band Skid Row in the '80s and '90s, Sebastian Bach was known for two things: His mane of long blonde hair and his jaw-dropping vocal range. Decades later, his hair is still blonde (even if it's not quite as long as it was back in the day), but more importantly, fans are saying his voice is just as impressive as ever. In a video shared to TikTok from the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland, earlier this month, Bach, 57, belted out Skid Row's 1991 hit song, "Monkey Business," off their second multi-platinum album, Slave to the Grind. While the singer often performed shirtless at the height of Skid Row's fame, he was dressed in a sparkly black t-shirt under a black vest with matching leather pants and cowboy boots as he stalked across the stage, banging his head. Fans were stunned by Bach's chops, with many pointing out that his voice is in much better shape than many of his contemporaries. "How does he still sound 25 and everyone else sounds 95???" one person wanted to know, with a second commenter declaring, "Sebastian was honestly always better than his peers. He's WAY better currently." "The GREATEST rocker of all time," gushed someone else, as another fan pointed out, "I guess it shows people who sing properly and who don't. Your voice will hold up better." Bach opened up about how he's preserved his voice over the years in a recent interview with Hollywood Soapbox, explaining that he still uses the same warm-up exercises he learned from Manhattan vocal coach Don Lawrence in the late '80s, which he recorded at the time. 'When digitizing came out, mid-'90s, the first thing I did was I took all those lessons, and I put them on MP3s," he explained. "So they're on my phone, and I made CDs out of them. So I warm up to myself at the age of 19 every day. I sing these lessons, and it's me before I made the first Skid Row album, singing all these scales. I did this every single show." Bach went on to reveal that other famous singers have asked him for advice. 'What's crazy is that so many other singers have heard me backstage do this warm up, and they've asked me for my warm up," he said, adding, "And Axl Rose warms up to me singing when I was does Phil Lewis of L.A. Guns. All of them have my f—ing vocal really cool to think of these other singers warming up to me as a teenager. It's cool.'Iconic '80s Rocker, 57, 'Still Sounds 25' During Epic Performance first appeared on Parade on Jun 2, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

David Lee Roth announces 2025 tour, two NY shows. Get tickets today
Vivid Seats is the New York Post's official ticketing partner. We may receive revenue from this partnership for sharing this content and/or when you make a purchase. Featured pricing is subject to change. As you may recall, COVID shut the world down in March 2020. Schools closed, professional sports seasons ended prematurely and many, many concert tours were cancelled. One of those tours belonged to David Lee Roth. To add insult to injury, two days before the novel Coronavirus officially hit North America, Roth wrote 'the tour is really heating up baby' on Instagram. Now, five long years later, the former Van Halen frontman — who unofficially retired in 2021 — is finally returning to the road. From July through September, Roth, 70, will hit arenas, theaters, ballrooms, state fairs and wineries all over North America. That includes stops at Atlantic City's Hard Rock Live on Friday, Aug. 8, Huntington, NY's Paramount Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 10 and Verona, NY's Turning Stone Resort Casino on Friday, Aug. 15. Prior to his run, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer performed for the first time in five years at Columbia, MD's M3 Rock Festival on May 3. The 16-song set was largely comprised of Van Halen hits, including but not limited to 'Panama,' 'Dance The Night Away,' 'Runnin' With The Devil,' 'Hot For Teacher' and 'Jump.' According to Loudwire, he was joined by a 'newly expanded backing band' that included 'guitarist Al Estrada, bassist Ryan Wheeler, drummer Francis Valentino…a keyboard player…[and] a four-piece group of backing vocalists.' Fans can purchase tickets for all upcoming David Lee Roth shows on sites like Vivid Seats; the official on-sale is Friday, May 9. Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand. They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event. David Lee Roth Is Back — With More Van Halen Songs Than Ever
As Alex Van Halen told Rolling Stone last fall, a tour reuniting the drummer and David Lee Roth didn't come to fruition after Eddie Van Halen's death in 2020. But at the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland, Saturday night, Van Halen fans were accorded the next best thing: Roth's return to the stage after five years, playing a set comprised completely of songs from his former band. Other than a corporate gig for Home Depot in 2023, the last time most people saw Roth onstage was more than five years ago, when he opened for Kiss and played a roughly dozen-song set largely comprised of Van Halen songs but also slipping in 'Just a Gigolo'/'I Ain't Got Nobody,' one of his solo hits. The pandemic shut down the rest of the tour, and a scheduled 2022 series of shows at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, which were called farewell gigs, was canceled over coronavirus concerns. More from Rolling Stone Sammy Hagar Brings Out Kesha, Resurrects Van Halen Classics at Vegas Residency Kickoff Sammy Hagar to Alex Van Halen: 'Just Leave Me Alone. I'll Leave You Alone' Hear the Song that Sammy Hagar Wrote With Eddie Van Halen in a Dream Saturday's set, at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, was a different animal. Grinning ear to ear, clad in black leather, and joking about his 'retirement,' Roth and his current band opened the 75-minute set with 'Panama' before winding their way through Van Halen standards ('Runnin' With the Devil,' 'Jamie's Cryin',' 'And the Cradle Will Rock …') and deep cuts ('Atomic Punk,' 'Drop Dead Legs') before wrapping up with 'Hot for Teacher,' 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love,' and, naturally, 'Jump.' Roth's band featured guitarist Al Estrada, who replicated many of Eddie's licks, and four backup singers, who ably handled and bolstered the harmonies on songs like 'Jump' and 'Dance the Night Away.' In between songs, Roth reminisced about Van Halen's early days (and the origins of the song breakdowns in those sets) and, in a very Dave way, the Lieutenant Uhura character in the original Star Trek TV series. The three-night M3 Rock Festival also featured sets by Ace Frehley, Sebastian Bach, Great White, Warrant, Vixen, Winger, and Lita Ford. Matters between Roth and the Van Halen camp have been never been warm and cozy, but in the aftermath of Eddie's death, emotions still appear to be raw. As he told RS, Alex suggested what he called 'a very overt — not a bowing — but an acknowledgment of Ed' in the discussed tour with Roth, but that the singer 'fuckin' popped a fuse' and, in Alex's words, found the idea 'offensive.' Also to RS, Sammy Hagar recently groused about the Sam and Dave 2002 tour that brought the two former VH frontmen together, albeit for separate sets. ''Dave always wants too much,' Hagar told RS. 'He always tries to upstage.' But onstage with his own band, Roth appeared to be enjoying himself, especially when he riffed on the enduring karaoke appeal of 'Dance the Night Away' and the time an ex-girlfriend would drunkenly sing along with it in the passenger seat of his car. 'It was the sexiest fucking thing I've ever seen,' he said. 'I think about that every time I sing this song.'
