JT Releases a Summer-Ready MAC Cosmetics Lip Kit
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. Jatavia Johnson—known to the world as the rapper JT—has always had a persuasive swing in her delivery, one that commands attention and urges fans to follow her lead. In her latest single 'Ran Out,' she gives clear instructions: My bitches shaking ass with their hands out / Pay up. For naysayers, her tone shifts—it's sharper and more biting. Pretty ass lips make these bitches cop syringes, mwah, she taunts on 2023's scathing freestyle 'No Bars.' It's not exactly a suggestion, but a reminder: in JT's world, influence doesn't beg—it declares. Her lips have long been a fixture of tabloid fodder, whether she's doling out cutting retorts online or debuting a glossy Black ombré at a Mugler show. So what do you do when your name is figuratively on everyone's lips? Give them something tangible to put on it—a MAC Cosmetics lip kit, to be exact. Her love affair with MAC began like it does for many Black girls—watching her mother get ready in the mirror. 'I remember my mom used to do her whole foundation routine with the [MAC] Studio Fix Powder; it was in a black [compact], and she applied it using this red powder sponge,' she recalls. 'Besides the hair store lip gloss—the one that you squeeze and roll on—that was one of the first MAC products that I actually knew about.' In high school, JT began experimenting on her own, often with MAC's famously loud Snob lipstick, a hot pinkish neutral shade that announces itself before you could even speak. 'I used to take my Snob and just put it on my lips, no liner, no nothing,' she says. 'That created a bold expression for me. When you look back at my pictures, beyond mugshots, I always had a crazy pink lip on that wouldn't make any sense right now, but it was the shit at the moment.' She often gravitated towards maximalist Y2K beauty (think pink lipstick, bold blue or dark eyeshadow, and glossy lips). Now, her go-to lip is just as expressive, only a bit more refined: a high-shine gloss, a swipe of Snob, and a '90s-style brown liner—all packed into one $52 kit you can buy now. JT's limited-edition lip kit features the exact combo she rocks both on and off the stage. Versatile and universally flattering, the collab may come in a box, but according to its maker, it's not made for just one type of woman. 'The girl who I see wearing this lip combo can be so many girls,' she says. 'I feel like it represents so many different types of Black girls, from the suburban to the ratchet. But outside of that, I've been seeing so many other women—white, Asian, you name it—in the kit.' Ahead, JT opens up about curating her MAC Cosmetics kit, why she's drawn to 'controversial beauty,' and her next musical era. I'm still so much of myself, just older. I'm more mature than I was before, but I was always sassy. I always had a way with words, and I always loved makeup and lip gloss. [I've] always been creative. I actually went to school for fashion merchandising for a short period of time. I was always considered an It girl in my area, because I had a unique identity. I don't really follow trends—I create them. That's what being an It girl is—just doing your own thing and being your own person. My mom. The first time I ever wanted to wear lip gloss was after watching my mom put it on. When I was in middle school, I was still on my Vaseline and little roll-on lip glosses from Claire's or Limited Too. I would only dream about having MAC in middle school, because that was an adult brand to have. So when I got to high school and was able to do my own thing, I started experimenting, putting different stuff on my lips. That's when I discovered my lips were cute. MAC Cosmetics means so much to me because it was always with me, from my childhood, when I saw my mom using it, to my aunts and big sister using it. Plus, they always had cool-ass celebrity campaigns. I wanted to be a MAC girl and have a MAC deal because of Teyana Taylor, Nicki Minaj, and everyone else who had one. Now, I am one of the girls who has a MAC collaboration, so I feel like I have definitely accomplished something. It's a very full circle for me. MAC is my childhood. The first makeup memory I have is of my mom doing her whole damn face in Studio Fix Powder. And when I got old enough, I wanted to experiment with foundation, so I used NW45 for a long time. Even though I looked orange as hell, it complemented my skin. I could get away with it at a time when brands didn't have anything for Black skin. So I was the NW45 girl—that was the first Black girl shade to have. The first actual thing I did with MAC was a performance during New York Fashion Week, which is based around clothes. However, I did this bold beauty look. That was the first time MAC invited me to do something with them, so I didn't show up like I didn't want to be there. I put on my best fucking glam. I went all pink. I didn't go with a nude lip or soft glam. I went straight full-out glam Barbie. That was my MAC interview on the low. I wanted to make sure they would want to work with me again. So I gave them a look. I believe that's how it started. What's funny, and people probably wouldn't believe me, but one person's makeup I admired growing up was Joseline Hernandez's. Her makeup used to be sick on Love & Hip Hop. She used to have sit-downs with the girls in a dark-ass eye and a pink lip. And she was one of the people I would see and be like, 'Her makeup looks good. Her makeup is done right.' I think her style of makeup is even popular now. Also, I love Donna Summer and Tina Turner's makeup—[Turner] always had that dark cheek. I've always been a fan of Teyana Taylor. Not too long ago, I sat with her at her place and told her that I wanted a MAC collab. I really do admire her style, from fashion to beauty; she was one of the first It girls I knew of at such a young age, thanks to her Super Sweet 16 episode. The big hair, the lips—everything. First of all, lip gloss definitely complements my Black skin. My love for lip liner runs deep. Literally, when I put on my lip liner and that gloss, you don't need anything else on that face. It's just going to make you, as a Black woman, stand out. And that's just how I feel. So, when I was creating the lip kit, yes, I was thinking about the people who want to use it every day, like myself. I definitely use the Chestnut and the Lip Glass every single day, but the Snob is when you're going out. I tried to give them the all-in-one. The one lipstick they didn't let me put in my kit was Frost, because that's my color. I love a chalky, frosty lip. I would have loved to do a Frost lip kit, with a bold, silvery, metallic look. Also, MAC Candy Yum Yum was another favorite. I would have put that in the kit, but I didn't want to hear the girls cry [laughs]. So I wanted to create something for my bold-ass self and my everyday self that you see right now. And that's what Snob is—it meets in the middle. Oh my God, I cannot believe you liked that! You know what? I loved it. So many people dragged me. But having a sense of freedom to do what the fuck I want to do feels so good. Knowing that nobody can tell me anything or stop me, I do it simply because I know I can. I was paying homage to the dolls and the drag queens, who Viva La Glam is actually for. I was trying to be extra, and people were like, 'That shit was hideous.' I got so many mean comments that day. The people who get it, get it. And people who don't get it will forever be in my business. People are always yapping, and they just have to talk about me. I don't know what they want from me, but they have this lip kit, and it sold out, and it's been a huge success. My 2022 birthday shoot. I had the blonde eyebrows and the blonde hair—that was the shift that birthed me as this monster for bold, standout looks. It's controversial to people, and I love it. I love it when I do me, and somebody doesn't agree with it. I love controversial beauty. I love when it's going to spark a debate, because if you do everything so right all the time, people just get used that, and they will never talk about you, versus giving them something to talk about. People love a debate. If you don't give them anything to debate about, you're going to fucking die down. My favorite trick is to use the back of the pencil—my clean pencil, which belongs to me—and smooth and blend the lip liner. My next project will sound nothing like City Cinderella. It's more so for me, where I am right now. I think City Cinderella was just like a letter to my old self, and I didn't want my very first project to stray too far away from her. When I look back at my projects, I can always know that I have a City Cinderella, something more in-depth, and more southern, slower, or hip-hop, which I enjoy sonically. But my next project is very upbeat; it's up-tempo and cute. I spent all last week in the studio recording. I'm almost done. She would say, 'You ate that.' She would know that I deserve this, but she would definitely say, 'You ate that, and look at you now.' This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Bianca Censori wears tiny shorts as she strolls around Tokyo with husband Kanye West
Kanye West's wife Bianca Censori dared to bare while out in Tokyo with the rapper on Thursday. The couple were spotted at a high-end outdoor mall for a spending spree. Biance, 30, sizzled in a skintight black, long-sleeve top styled with tiny spandex shorts that nearly exposed her backside. She carried her iPhone in hand and strolled the mall in kitten heels. She kept a tan hat low over her makeup-free face as she and her 47-year-old husband made their way into a nearby MAC Cosmetics store. Kanye was seen waiting a few feet away as Bianca browsed the makeup counter's latest products with the help of a MAC employee. Rear view: The snaps showed the 30-year-old's stunning figure from all angles The rapper wore leather pants, a baggy hooded sweatshirt, brown suede boots, and large black sunglasses for the outing. The couple's casual outing in Tokyo comes two days after Censori appeared in a very revealing lingerie shoot, which was photographed by her rapper husband and shared to Instagram on Tuesday. The images showed her wearing white lace underwear while posing in her hotel room. The shots were taken in October last year. Revealing that it was her husband behind the lens, Bianca wrote in the caption: 'Japan October 2024 shot by @ye.' The defiant post came after West was recently forced to deny shocking allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking made by his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta.

Bianca Censori puts on risque display in TINY shorts with Kanye West after jaw-dropping lingerie shoot
Just days after stunning fans with a racy lingerie shoot, Kanye West 's much-younger wife Bianca Censori put on another risqué display while out in Tokyo with the rapper. The couple — who have spent much of the last year in Japan amid West's shock legal woes — were spotted at a high-end outdoor mall on Thursday afternoon. For their shopping trip, Censori, 30, went braless in a skintight black, long-sleeve top styled with tiny spandex shorts that nearly exposed her backside. The former Yeezy architect — who married West, 47, after his 2021 divorce from Kim Kardashian, 44 — carried her iPhone in hand and strolled the mall in kitten heels. She kept a tan hat low over her makeup-free face as she and West made their way into a nearby MAC Cosmetics store. Playing the role of patient husband, West stood feet away as Censori browsed the makeup counter's latest products with the help of a MAC employee. The Stronger hitmaker — whose recent Shanghai concert sparked fan backlash — had on leather pants, a baggy hooded sweatshirt, brown suede boots and large black sunglasses. The couple's casual outing in Tokyo comes two days after Censori appeared in scantily-clad photos, which were photographed by her rapper husband and shared to Instagram on Tuesday. The images showed the 30-year-old brunette posing in white lace lingerie while posing in her hotel room in Japan in shots which were taken in October last year. The defiant post came shortly after West denied shocking allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking made by his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta. Days after the fierce rebuttal, Censori showed off her ample assets and tiny waist as she posed in the sheer bra and matching thong-style knickers. She boosted her petite frame with a pair of stilettos and wore her blonde locks in a bouncy blown out style, which covered her pretty features. One sizzling shot saw her crawling across the plush cream carpet on her hands and knees in a very seductive fashion. Revealing that it was her husband behind the lens, she wrote in the caption: 'Japan October 2024 shot by @ye.' A recent similar shoot taken at the same time saw Censori share another set of photos from the private shoot. Censori has been sharing the polaroid snaps to her social media page. Last week, she gave fans another glimpse at her enviable figure with three more snaps. In one of the photos she was pictured on her knees leaning backwards while wearing a sheer tube top and pulling down her stockings with one hand. Another one of the retro style snaps featured her seemingly naked from the side, wearing high heels, with one of her legs extended in the air. A third image showed Bianca in a shaggy blonde wig and straddling the carpet while shooting a seductive glance at the camera with a hand placed in her mouth. 'Shot by @ye,' she captioned all three of the images. The couple have been caught up in reports that West's former assistant Lauren Pisciotta has filed a sexual assault case against him. On Sunday, a Yeezy spokesperson issued a statement to criticizing the rapper's former employee's amended complaint against him, which they point out is the 'the fourth version she has advanced.' Censori kept a tan hat low over her makeup-free face as she and her spouse went from store-to-store on Thursday afternoon 'Each new revision contradicts the others; each is more absurd and outlandish than all previous claims combined,' the Yeezy rep insisted. 'Does Ms. Pisciotta actually believe her confabulations? We cannot know. But this breathless new installment of fantasy fiction discredits all past, present and future testimony.' The spokesperson continued: 'We stand ready to annihilate Ms. Pisciotta's tall tales before a jury—an exoneration so inevitable that even she, lost in her fog of fantasy, must surely see it coming.' Yeezy representative Milo Yiannopoulos also addressed the matter, highlighting 'the absurdity of Pisciotta's quadruply revised claims, which now include kidnapping, battery, rape, false imprisonment and even sex trafficking.' 'She picked the one rapper who loathes violence, has never been arrested, and doesn't even own a gun,' Yiannopoulos claimed. In response to the statements above, Pisciotta's attorney, Lisa Bloom, told 'While Kanye West's publicist has come up with a slickly worded (and outrageously false and defamatory) attack on Ms. Pisciotta, Kanye himself has publicly admitted much of what she's claiming.' 'Kanye's publicist is deafeningly silent on Kanye's own admissions, which will destroy him in court. We look forward to seeing him there, where he cannot hide behind a high priced spin team,' Bloom concluded. The response on West's behalf come just days after Pisciotta accused the father-of-four of sexually harassing and assaulting her on multiple occasions. In her amended complaint, filed earlier this week, Pisciotta accused her former boss of forcing 'his penis into her mouth' during a business trip in San Francisco. The oral rape allegedly occurred not long after she began working for Ye in July 2021. She alleged that he attempted to kiss her on the lips, more than once, despite her repeatedly rejecting his advances, which she insists she told him were 'not professional.' After participating in a writing session for his album, Donda, the complaint alleges that West invited Pisciotta to his hotel suite to discuss the record. When she arrived, Pisciotta alleges in the complaint 'Ye abruptly laid down in his bed and insisted that Ms. Pisciotta lay beside him.' She proceeded to 'reluctantly' sit next to him in bed as her then-boss praised her work and shared how he could 'propel' her success in the music industry, according to the complaint. The conversation quickly turned south, she claims, as he began speaking in graphic detail about an unnamed model's genitals and described his sexual encounters with other women. Pisciotta claims in the complaint that West attempted to kiss her again, but that she 'continued to deflect his advances.' She then claimed he began to ask her questions about her vagina, such as 'What's it like?', 'Can I touch it?', and 'I just wanna see what it's like.' According to the complaint, despite her reminding him his behavior was not professional, Pisciotta alleges West 'stroked his penis over his pants with one hand and forcibly touched her vagina with the other hand.' 'Ms. Pisciotta immediately told Ye to stop. Ye soon fell asleep mid-sentence,' the complaint reads. 'Ms. Pisciotta left the room once Ye fell asleep.' During that same stay in San Francisco, Pisciotta claims West went to her hotel room and demanded to use her shower. After cracking the door open, Pisciotta says in the complaint that her former boss 'pushed the door open and proceeded directly into the bathroom.' When he reemerged, she claims in the complaint he was only wearing a 'towel covering the lower half of his body' and approached her while she was sitting in a chair. She claims 'Ye dropped the towel from his waist to expose his penis,' removed her from the chair she was sitting in, and pushed her onto the bed, so that she was pinned against its pillows and headboard. Pisciotta says he used his 'body to pin and restrain' her and restricted her from leaving the bed, before thrusting his penis repeatedly into her mouth, according to the complaint. 'As Ms. Pisciotta frantically pled for Ye to stop, Ye forced his penis into her mouth. Ms. Pisciotta froze in shock and fear but continued to plead with Ye and beg him,' according to the legal documents. After the alleged rape, she alleges he apologized and left. When she confronted him about the sexual assault, she said in the complaint he gave her what she thought was 'a sincere apology' and agreed to continue working for him. Still, she insists in the court record he never stopped his sexually inappropriate behavior and harassment. She claims he detailed sexual fantasies about her, demanded she send him explicit material including topless and nude photographs, constantly remarked on her body and even allegedly called her while engaging in sexual acts with another woman. Other shocking claims in the second amended complaint included that he offered someone the opportunity to have sex with her and that he 'constantly told her that 'he wanted to have sex with her and how he thought about her while he had sex with other women.' She also says he offered 'one million dollars in exchange for her deleting her OnlyFans account, from which Ms. Pisciotta earned approximately one million dollars over the course of eight months.' After deleting her account, Pisciotta claims in the court paper that West refused to pay the 'agreed-upon amount' and quickly lost her substantial OnlyFans following. During her employment, she alleged he interrogated her about her love life, the last time she had sex, how large her partners' penises were and if she would be 'open to engaging in threesomes with her partners, his partners, and other women Ye found on various social media platforms.' After terminating her in fall of 2023, she claims he 'grabbed' her neck and 'squeezed his hand around her throat, restricting her airflow' after running into each other at a concert, according to the complaint. 'With his hand still around her neck, Ye pulled Ms. Pisciotta's face towards his, inserted his tongue in her ear, and licked her ear repeatedly, causing it to become wet with his saliva. Ms. Pisciotta recoiled in horror and quickly walked away,' her complaint says. Pisciotta claims West went on to move into Ms. Pisciotta's same apartment complex, which caused her 'significant anxiety and distress.' She said in the complaint while he lived there he would walk past her place in a 'conspicuous manner' and even 'stationed his security team at various points of the complex.' Pisciotta alleged this pushed her to relocate to 'Florida as a means of escaping Ye.' Following her move, she claims he hired an individual who offered 'swatting' services for purchase, to 'swat' her. Pisciotta, who began working for Ye in 2021 as a music talent scout (A&R) for his Donda album, originally sued West in 2024. While working as his personal assistant and Chief of Staff, she handled his music, fashion ventures (like YEEZY), property management, and schedule. During this time, she claimed in the complaint that he controlled her life and made her ask for permission to shower or take breaks. Additionally, she alleged he verbally abused her, especially in front of male colleagues, demanded 'hugs' where he would press himself against her and spoke about monitoring her social media to masturbate to her photos. She also accused him of assaulting her in 2015 while she blacked out at a studio session. She believes she was drugged and has no memory of the evening, according to the court document. Another disturbing allegation involves a flight to a fashion show. She claims in the complaint that he locked her in a room and masturbated in front of her, until someone from the outside was able to open the door as she 'cried into her lap.' West previously denied Pisciotta's other allegations made in her initial June 2024 complaint. In his initial legal response to her prior claims, West's companies issued a blanket denial of all allegations made by Pisciotta — including her claims of sexual assault. In response to Pisciotta's original lawsuit, West's lawyer called the claims 'baseless' and announced plans to countersue. In her new, second amended complaint, Pisciotta lays out a sweeping list of allegations, including sexual harassment and a hostile work environment, assault, battery, sexual battery, sex trafficking, stalking, false imprisonment, gender discrimination, promissory estoppel, failure to prevent harassment, discrimination and retaliation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Pisciotta's lawyer confirmed to Daily Mail that the second amended complaint was mailed to West. In a statement to Pisciotta's attorney, Lisa Bloom, wrote: 'We are pleased that the judge granted our request to file an amended complaint against Mr. West in the sexual harassment, assault and battery case we are litigating against him in California Superior Court, County of Los Angeles.' 'In a series of recent tweets, Mr. West calls himself 'a walking me too' (we agree) and corroborated many of our client's claims by proclaiming, 'If a CEO don't hug you inappropriately he's a f@gg*t' and 'Life is about using your position to f*k the baddest b!**hes possible' and other disgusting and offensive posts,' she continued. Bloom concluded: 'Every woman deserves a respectful workplace free of groping and sexual harassment. We look forward to aggressively litigating this case on behalf of our brave client, Lauren Piscotta.'

Kardashians are suddenly being honest about plastic surgery
I'm ashamed to admit that I spent the majority of my teens at the whims of the Kardashian family and their multi-billion-dollar beauty empire. I went to extreme lengths to emulate their look. In 2015, I scrambled to buy Kylie Jenner's viral lip-plumping kit that she promised would produce a pout like her own. The wages from my first job were spent slowly collecting each MAC Cosmetics lip pencil that she'd recommended. I would shade my eyebrows using a deep brunette pomade to match hers. It was Kylie's older half-sister, the famous Kim Kardashian, who taught me how to contour my face (via a YouTube tutorial, no less). You could say I was influenced. But I'd argue it was deeper than a mere surface-level influencing — the family set a standard of beauty that continues to reign today in the form of the archetypal 'Instagram face' (think button nose, sharp cheekbones, inflated lips). And women like me followed along. A decade later, I'm no longer as impressionable. And that's why I'm alarmed by the Kardashians' recent move into total plastic surgery and tweak-ment transparency, following years of cloak-and-dagger and pseudo-denials. Last weekend, Khloe Kardashian, the eldest sister of the Kardashian/Jenner clan, published a list of her facial procedures. They included, but were not limited to, a nose job, skin lightening, Botox, filler, collagen injections and regular 'salmon sperm facials'. Kylie Jenner Only weeks earlier did Khloe's 27-year-old half-sister Kylie share the specifics of her second breast enlargement procedure, including the size, placement and doctor. When a fan asked her to share the magical components — presumably for their own upcoming appointment — Kylie obliged, writing: '445 cc, moderate profile, half under the muscle!!!!!. Silicone!!! Garth Fisher!!! Hope this helps lol.' It was dubbed by fans as her 'boob job recipe'; dished out so candidly as if it were instructions for whipping up a quick pasta dish. Their mother, Kris Jenner, also recently named the New York City-based facelift specialist who was behind her latest glow-up. This new wave of transparency is extremely out of character. Despite years of speculation over their respective surgeries, the Kardashian-Jenners have often avoided questions or denied rumours completely. Really, their caginess about their surgeries has only worked to uphold the standard of beauty that they've been peddling for the best part of a decade; keeping us in the dark while they made billions selling their tools of mass beautification through their various cosmetic, clothing and lingerie companies. In that time, fans have felt like the family has owed them an explanation. Take Kylie, for example: while promoting her viral lip kits from her brand Kylie Cosmetics in 2015, she denied rumours that she had filler injected into her lips (even though before-and-after pictures showed two substantially different lip sizes over the years). She claimed that it was merely her handiwork with a lip liner pencil that gave her lips an 'illusion' of plumpness. She admitted to having the work done months later, during an episode of Keeping Up with theKardashians. There's also Kim, who has admitted to receiving Botox injections and undergoing breast augmentation surgery – but absolutely nothing else. Her claim to be otherwise au naturel has undoubtedly helped the success of her $4bn shapewear company Skims, which sells products to enhance hourglass silhouettes, and her skincare brand SKKN by Kim. We have a right, then, to be suspicious about this sudden run of honesty. Is it because, as cosmetic surgery has been normalised (plenty of which has been their doing), they feel comfortable enough to tell the truth without judgement? Maybe it's a PR move to humanise them.
