Shubman Gill To Virat Kohli: 6 Indian Captains To Score 200 In Tests

Gill on Thursday (July 3) became the sixth Indian captain after MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli to score a double century in Test cricket.
Shubman Gill entered his name in the history books on Thursday (July 3) by becoming the first Indian Test captain to score a double century in England. Gill came out to bat at No. 4 for India in the first innings of the ongoing 2nd Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham and crossed the 200-run mark by taking a single on the 311th ball of his innings.
The 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab is the sixth overall Indian captain after MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli to score a double century in Test cricket. During his 123-match-long Test career, Kohli scored seven double centuries as India captain, whereas the other four crossed the 200-run mark once.
MAK Pataudi was the first Indian captain to score a double century in Test cricket. Pataudi remained unbeaten on 203 runs against the English team in the second innings of the match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in February 1964.
Gavaskar scored 205 runs from 342 balls against the West Indies in the first innings of the red-ball match played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from December 1 to 6 in 1978.
Tendulkar scored 217 runs from 344 balls as India's Test captain against New Zealand in the first innings of the Ahmedabad Test played from October 29 to November 2 in 1999.
MS Dhoni made 224 runs from 265 balls against Australia in the first innings of the 2013 Chennai Test.
Kohli scored seven double centuries for India in Test cricket, and all of them came in the matches when he was leading the side.
He scored 200 against the West Indies in North Sound (July 2016), 211 vs New Zealand in Indore (October 2016), 235 vs England in Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium (December 2016), 204 vs Bangladesh in Hyderabad (February 2017), 213 vs Sri Lanka in Nagpur (November 2017), 243 vs Sri Lanka in Delhi (December 2017), and 254* against South Africa in Pune (October 2019).

At the age of 25 years and 298 days, Gill became the second youngest Indian captain after MAK Pataudi to score a double century in Test cricket. Pataudi was 23 years and 39 days old when he scored a double century against the English team at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in 1964.
