HC allows ‘duped' NRI to attend MBBS counselling
Chennai:
Madras high court
has ordered an MBBS-aspirant, whose application was rejected on charges of furnishing a fake relationship certificate for admission under NRI quota, to be included in counselling, as the court found though his certificate was fake, the NRI relationship was genuine.
A division bench of Justice M Sundar and Justice T Vinod Kumar granted relief to P V Arjun as the court found that his father had been 'duped' by a man who helped him obtain the certificate. Also, a scrutiny revealed that a subsequent certificate produced by the candidate was genuine and that his sponsor was none other than his father's blood brother, an NRI residing in Muscat.
The bench passed the order on an appeal moved by the panel challenging an order of a single judge of the court directing the inclusion of the petitioner in the eligible candidate list for the NRI quota.
The panel pointed out various clauses in the prospectus stating the candidates and parents would be responsible for documents submitted and they should not rely on agents/touts. It was said in the prospectus that after scrutiny, if the particulars furnished in the application were incorrect, his/her candidature would be cancelled.

Contrarily, the petitioner submitted that his father met one Velliangiri, who claimed to be familiar with obtaining such certificates. Velliangiri promised to get his relationship certificate and provided him with the certificate dated March 11.
