Oman launches Shabik to streamline online ticket bookings
Muscat – The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth (MCSY) on Sunday launched 'Shabik', a new digital platform that enables online ticket booking for cultural, sports, and youth events across Oman. The announcement was made during the ministry's media forum dedicated to its Digital Transformation Programme. The event also marked the launch of the Gulf region's largest hackathon, branded 'Accelerators', and a series of strategic initiatives to enhance digital services. The forum was held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Saeed bin Sultan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Culture, and H E Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Undersecretary for Sports and Youth at MCSY. Sultan Mohsen al Subhi, Head of the Technical Programmes Management Team and Director of the Digital Transformation Programme at the minister's office, said the ministry's efforts align with Oman's national digital strategy. 'We are working to keep pace with global developments and enhance the efficiency and quality of digital government services,' Subhi said. 'Our team has focused on collecting, analysing, and improving data digitally through a methodology rooted in research, understanding, and actionable recommendations.' The eight-week hackathon, set for 2025, will target innovators, entrepreneurs, and tech talent across the region to accelerate progress in culture, sports, and youth-related sectors. During the forum, MCSY signed six memoranda of understanding to support the hackathon, strengthen digital transformation indicators, and improve cybersecurity.

Oman steps up cultural diplomacy with new project
Muscat – H H Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, has issued a decision to form the Omani Cultural Laboratories project team. The project is a joint effort between Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY), Cultural Club and Bait al Zubair Foundation. It aims to adopt cultural programmes and encourage partnerships between government bodies, private organisations and academic institutions, both locally and internationally. The project is part of MCSY's broader cultural strategy focused on creativity, renewal and promotion of Omani identity on the global stage. Omani Cultural Laboratories will present the sultanate's cultural heritage through exhibitions, research projects, intellectual forums and international collaborations. These are designed to highlight Oman's civilisational legacy and contribute to global cultural dialogue. 'The decision comes within the framework of strengthening the national cultural movement, and enhancing partnerships and integration between various cultural institutions,' said H E Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidi, MCSY Undersecretary and General Supervisor of the project. 'It underscores the importance of supporting cultural development programmes in the sultanate, consolidating Oman's cultural identity and enhancing its presence in regional and global forums.' Dr Mohammed bin Ali al Balushi, Chairman of Board of Directors of Cultural Club and Vice-Chairman of the executive team, welcomed the project. 'The Omani cognitive memory carries cultural content and intellectual achievements that must be communicated abroad,' he said. 'It is our collective responsibility to engage in projects such as these cultural laboratories to contribute to the knowledge exchange movement in the world.' Dr Mohammed Abdul Karim al Shehhi, Head of the executive team, stressed the importance of preserving and sharing Oman's intellectual heritage. 'We appreciate the ministry's continued commitment to providing the means to transform Omani cultural heritage into a source of knowledge for interested parties everywhere,' he said. 'This cooperation between Bait al Zubair and Cultural Club reinforces a tradition where efforts are unified under the umbrella of the state, translating its vision and aspirations.' Creative development competition for Omani youth launched
Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has announced the tenth season of the Clubs Competition for Cultural Creativity, a key programme aimed at fostering the intellectual and creative development of Omani youth. Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, Director of the competition and Director General of Youth Affairs, highlighted the significance of the programme, which focuses on nurturing cognitive and intellectual growth among young people. He stated that the competition has long served as a platform for discovering and refining young talents, contributing to their personal development and the broader progress of society. 'The goal is to encourage youth participation in a wide range of cultural, artistic and technical activities, thereby promoting community development,' Siyabi said. It targets Omani youth aged ten to 29, divided into two categories: 10–16 years and 17–29 years. It covers various creative fields, including literature, with focus on classical and popular poetry; culture, with emphasis on debates; and visual arts, featuring fine arts and photography. In the performing arts category, participants will compete in music and singing, while the technology and innovation segment includes fields such as entrepreneurship, innovation and electronic games. The sports category will feature a sports commentary contest. The competition has several prestigious awards, including Best Youth Committee Award, which recognises contributions of youth committees within clubs and encourages greater community participation. The competition awards aim to boost youth involvement, spotlight creative talents and underscore the importance of local youth committees in nurturing young, talented Omanis. A Media Competition has also been introduced this season, targeting volunteer media teams from across Oman, to further promote collaboration and creativity in the media sector.

MCSY launches initiative to empower jobseekers in Dhofar
Salalah – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) has launched a new initiative to equip jobseekers, new graduates, and entrepreneurs with essential skills to thrive in the job market. The five-day 'Personal Footprint' event kicked off on Thursday at Al Hafa Beach Market in Salalah, Dhofar. Saud bin Mohammed al Awaid, head of the Personal Footprint initiative, stated that the programme focuses on enhancing personal marketing skills and professional development, enabling participants to effectively present their capabilities to potential employers and clients. The opening programme featured a visual presentation and a discussion session on youth-led initiatives in e-marketing, entrepreneurship, and content creation. Additionally, an exhibition was inaugurated, showcasing various aspects of the initiative. Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in specialised training workshops covering mobile photography, content creation strategies, design and montage skills, and digital marketing. The programme also highlights success stories in the field, inspiring young professionals to explore new opportunities and develop their careers.
