To attract students to some of the programmes that have no takers, the govt waived 50% of the fees for these streams in govt engineering colleges. These streams include mechanical engineering, civil engineering, textiles technology, silk technology, and automobile engineering streams.
Pvt colleges can add fee waiver list
The new fee waiver decision, which was announced earlier by higher education minister MC Sudhakara, was made official in the gazette.
The higher education department said if private colleges wish to add their list to the fee waiver, they can communicate it to the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). However, no private colleges have made the offer thus far.
As per the MoU of Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association, 45% of the seats will be filled through CET, 30% through ComedK, 15% NRI quota, and 10% management quota. The fee for engineering and architecture courses in private engineering colleges increased by 7.5% for both govt and private quota seats.
In govt colleges, the fee was hiked by 5%.
After the increase, the CET fee in private colleges is Rs 81,800 for type-1 colleges and Rs 91,000 for type-2 colleges. This is excluding university registration and other processing fees. In ComedK type-1 colleges, the fee fixed is Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 2,81,100 for type-2 colleges. However, with the university registration and other processing fees, the fee for CET seats in type-1 private colleges will be Rs 1,12,410 and Rs 1,21,610 for type-2 colleges.
Tuition fee exempted
Tuition fees for the candidates admitted under 5% supernumerary quota seats have been exempted. Private engineering colleges are allowed to charge up to Rs 20,000 as additional charges in the first year for the facilities they provide. Action will be taken against colleges charging excess fees. Colleges can charge skill fees based on the facilities provided and only voluntarily.
Last year, the fee was Rs 76,135 for CET seats in type-1 private colleges and Rs 84,596 for type-2 colleges, excluding university registration and other processing fees.
In ComedK type-1 colleges, the fee was Rs 1,86,111 and Rs 2,61,477 for type-2 colleges.
The fee in govt colleges is Rs 44,200. The fee for constituent colleges of the University of Mysore, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) for the 50% seats in engineering and architecture courses is Rs 44,200, including university registration and other processing fees. The fees at University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) is Rs 49,600. This was Rs 42,116 and Rs 47,250 respectively last year.
