Consider plea to implement RTE Act in all CBSE, ICSE schools: HC
Madurai: has directed the authorities to consider and pass orders on a plea seeking strict implementation of the 25% reservation under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, in all applicable CBSE and ICSE private schools in the court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by J Iraniyan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The petitioner stated that under the RTE Act, all private unaided non-minority schools are required to reserve 25% of their seats in Class 1 for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. However, this was not implemented in the schools. Hence, the petitioner made a representation to the authorities, but it was not considered. Consequently, the petitioner moved the court.A division bench of justice M Dhandapani and justice R Sakthivel directed the authorities to consider and pass orders on the representation of the petitioner on merits and in accordance with the law, after affording an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner within four weeks. The petition was disposed of.

Madras High Court seeks report from TN, centre on illegal immigrants
MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Thursday sought a report from the central and state governments on the steps taken by them to deport illegal immigrants who are staying in Tamil Nadu. A vacation bench comprising justices M Dhandapani and R Sakthivel gave the direction on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by KK Ramesh of Madurai seeking a direction to the government to take action against foreign nationals, especially those from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Africa, who are illegally staying in India. Citing media reports, petitioner claimed that nearly 46,000 foreign nationals are illegally staying in Tamil Nadu despite expiry of their visa. He alleged that such persons collude with political party leaders and involve in illegal activities like transporting drugs, weapons, etc. He also cited the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and sought the above direction. He further sought an interim direction to cancel the registration of political parties which support terrorists. The judges orally observed that though the court issued a series of directions a few years ago to tackle the issue, the government has not taken any steps and remains a silent spectator. They issued notice to the Union Ministries of Home and External Affairs, Election Commission of India, State Home department and Director General of Police and directed them to file a report at the next hearing on June 9. A vacation bench of justices N Mala and G Arul Murugan directed the respondents, including the late actor's sons and grandson Dusshyanth Ramkumar, to file counter-affidavit to the appeal moved by Dhanabakkiam Enterprises by June 3, 2025. However, the bench refused to stay the operation of the single judge's order and adjourned the hearing to June 3.

HC seeks report from Theni collector on facilities at temple during festival
Madurai: Madras high court on Thursday directed the Theni district collector to file a report on the facilities provided to devotees visiting Mangaladevi Kannagi Temple situated between Theni district in Tamil Nadu and Idukki district in Kerala, during the Chitra Pournami festival .The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by S Karthikeyan. The petitioner stated that a large number of devotees from both states visit the temple during the Chitra Pournami festival every stated that the members of the Mangaladevi Kannagi Arakattalai (trust) in Cumbum are allegedly printing pamphlets with the bank account number and collecting money illegally from the devotees. He claimed that no proper account is maintained and the amount is being swindled. Hence, he moved court seeking a direction to conduct an inquiry into the illegal money collection . The petitioner also sought a direction to the authorities to conduct the festival without any interference by any third parties by providing basic facilities to the devotees visiting the temple during the the course of the hearing, the counsel for the trust submitted that it is a charitable trust and they are genuinely providing annadhanam to the devotees who are visiting the temple. The counsel submitted that they are not collecting donations forcibly from any person, including the petitioner, and people are voluntarily giving donations through the bank.A division bench of justice M Dhandapani and justice R Sakthivel observed that considering the facts and circumstances of the case, the court is inclined to ascertain whether any proper facilities are provided to the devotees. Hence, the judges directed the collector to file a report.
