MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jackson Hopper, the man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend at Shelby Farms last year, has now been indicted by a grand jury. Hopper, 27, was indicted for first-degree murder on Tuesday after allegedly shooting Ellie Young to death at a Breast Cancer walk at Shelby Farms Park in October 2024. Young was a medical student at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis. Family of Ellie Young files lawsuit against accused killer and his mother Witnesses said that they saw Young's Jeep parked in a parking space on the lot. A white Honda CR-V with Kentucky temporary tags pulled behind her vehicle. Hopper allegedly fired two shots into the back of the Jeep. As Young exited the Jeep, Hopper allegedly fired at least one more shot into the victim as she lay on the ground. According to the affidavit, Young had recently broken up with Hopper. Man accused of murdering Ellie Young waives bond hearing After the shooting, an officer with the Mason Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Hopper's vehicle, but it refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. Deputies from multiple agencies joined the pursuit that spanned through three counties before a PIT maneuver caused Hopper to crash out on Highway 51. Following the crash, WREG obtained a video of the arrest where it appears law enforcement officers aggressively pulled Hopper out of the vehicle. 6 Law enforcement officers facing charges after excessive force allegations On February 10, the Dyer County Grand Jury returned indictments charging six law enforcement officers with charges ranging from official misconduct, official oppression, assault, and tampering with evidence. 3 new cases of measles confirmed in Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Health confirmed three additional cases of measles in Middle Tennessee on Tuesday. Public health officials are now investigating the cases. On Mar. 27, Shelby County was confirmed to have the first measles case but second in the state. The first measles case in the state was reported on Mar. 21 in Middle Tennessee. This makes five cases of measles in total in Tennessee. According to the Tennessee Department of Health, all three of the recently confirmed cases are currently recovering at home. Public health officials are working to identify other locations and persons potentially exposed to the virus. First measles case confirmed in Shelby County There is a national measles outbreak, involving over 480 cases in 20 states, with two, confirmed fatalities in the U.S. 'Measles typically has a classic red, spotty rash that begins on the face and spreads over the body,' said the Tennessee Department of Health. 'Additional symptoms can include fever, headache, and generally not feeling well, followed by rash, cough, red eyes, or congestion.' They said measles is a highly infectious and potentially fatal disease that spreads very easily through the air when an infected person speaks, coughs or sneezes. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A second suspect has been taken into custody in connection to the robbery of a 17-year-old which ended in a shooting last month. Jameial Garner, 18, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Aggravated Robbery for his alleged involvement in the incident at a Marathon gas station on Ontario Avenue on Feb. 24. Man arrested after robbery of teen leads to shooting at Frayser gas station Reports said the teenage victim was standing by his car at the gas pump when two men approached him with an AR-style pistol. They robbed him, but when he fought back, the suspects allegedly pushed him to the ground and then kicked, punched, kneed, and struck the teen with the weapon. Memphis Police said the victim was seen on surveillance footage grabbing another gun from his car and shooting at the suspects as they ran from the scene. Police responded to Regional One, where one of the suspects, identified as Jameial Garner, was dropped off with a gunshot wound in critical condition. The victim was also reportedly taken to Le Bonheur in non-critical condition. The other suspect, 22-year-old Lazander Mitchell was arrested on March 3 and charged with Aggravated Robbery in connection to the same incident. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
