Little Afghani girl steps into world of letters from Kottayam
As classrooms across the State filled with the chatter of children and the scent of fresh books on Monday, it was a six-year-old girl from Afghanistan who captured hearts in Kottayam. Clutching her new school bag and dressed in a crisp yellow frock, Behsa Karimi walked into Government LP School, Mudiyoorrkkara, with wide eyes and an eager smile. This bright young girl, originally from Herat in Afghanistan, is one of 16 students who joined Grade I this year. Behsa is the daughter of Mohammad Fahim Karimi, a 33-year-old research scholar in Management Studies at Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), and Ellaha Zahir. Though her roots lie in the rugged landscapes of Afghanistan, Behsa's early learning has begun right here in Kottayam, where she also attended pre-school. This made her the star of the school's reopening ceremony on Monday. It's the first time the school here has welcomed a student from another country and the teachers were thrilled. Headmistress Sindhu K. and her team greeted Behsa with open arms. Soon, she was exploring her classroom, exchanging shy giggles with new friends and adapting to the rhythm of her new school life. 'She speaks more Malayalam than I do,' Fahim chuckled. 'Though I came here five years ago, I barely know ten words in this language. But Behsa will have no trouble picking up the nuances here. She's already at home,' he said Fahim first arrived in Kottayam in 2021 to pursue his postgraduate studies. Now a research scholar at MGU, he still has two more years of research to complete and the family is currently settled near Thellakom. During this time, Kottayam will remain home for the Karimi family, and for Behsa this school will be her world. On her very first day, she received her textbooks, uniform and school bag from the school. While Fahim and Behsa are here on student visas, her mother and two year old sister, Behar, are on dependent visas.

MGU launches QR code-based evaluation system
Kottayam: Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) successfully implemented a QR code-based evaluation system developed in-house, said university vice-chancellor (VC) C T Aravindakumar. The second-semester examinations of the four-year undergraduate (UG) programmes were evaluated using this system and the results were published on Friday, just one day after completion of valuation. The university is actively working towards migrating the evaluation of all its examinations to this newly developed system, enabling the prompt declaration of results, the VC announced at a news conference on Friday. The theory examinations for the second semester concluded on May 14, followed by the practical examinations on May 16. The evaluation of nearly 1.5 lakh answer scripts was completed on Thursday, across nine zonal valuation camps. Each student receives a score sheet along with their marks, categorizing their performance at the individual, institutional and university levels. MGU is the first university in state to announce the results in this manner. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Along with the flagship four-year UG programme known as MGU-UGP, the results of MGU-BCA and MGU-BBA programmes were also prepared using the new QR-based system. As part of the new procedure, evaluators use a dedicated mobile application developed by the university to scan encrypted QR codes containing the students' exam information. Marks are entered directly into the system and revaluation, if required, is completed within the same platform. The compiled data is then uploaded to the university's portal. All operations at the zonal evaluation camps can be centrally monitored from the controller of examinations' office. In addition to expediting result publication, the new system enhances the efficiency of the entire evaluation process and significantly reduces operational costs, Aravindakumar said. MG varsity's self-financing institutions come under RTI Act, rules info panel
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Information Commission has ruled that self-financing educational institutions under the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) will come under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. It includes institutions directly run by the university as well as those affiliated with the university. The Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies (CPAS) which coordinates the functioning of these institutions will also come under the Act's purview, said an order issued by Information Commission A Abdul Hakkim. The order came on appeal over the denial of information by the Nursing Education Institute at Chuttippara in Pathanamthitta. The complainant was T Sajeev, father of Ammu Sajeev, who died at the institute's hostel on November 15, 2024. The institution's management denied information regarding the death. The institute had claimed that the RTI Act was not applicable for self-financing institutions. The commission observed that the institute's action was illegal. The commission had earlier directed the institute to provide the requested information free of cost before February 19. The latest order came based on the father's second complaint. The commission asked the director of the nursing institute at Chuttippara to provide the requested info free of cost before May 17. The receipt should be submitted to the commission by May 20. The commission stated that an institution established as per the directions in the Constitution or under a law will come under the ambit of RTI.
