Taming the 'Beasts of Britain'

THE iconic MINI we see on our roads today are more expansive and stylised than the original 'tiny' car originally owned by British Motor Corp. British Motor later merged with Leyland Motor Corp in 1968 to become British Leyland. The latter subsequently became the Rover Group, which owned Rover, MINi, Land Rover and MG. BMW took control of the Rover Group and MINI in 1994. By the turn of the millennium, Rover was still suffering huge losses, so BMW decided to get rid of most of the companies - MG and Rover went to Phoenix and Land Rover was sold to Ford. But BMW kept the MINI and since the past 20 years, the vehicle has been produced in a variety of versions. They include the hatch, cabrio, Clubman, Paceman, coupe and roadster, as well as a limited edition all-electric model. Enough about some history lesson and let's move to the present day in Malaysia. On Friday, MINI Malaysia brought the legacy of heritage and bold expression to life with the MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) Track Day 2025 at Gamuda Cove. Designed for MINIacs and driving enthusiasts alike, the track day offered a showcase of the latest additions to the new MINI family, delivering adrenaline-fuelled driving experiences that embody MINI's hallmark racing DNA. At the core of the track day was a tribute to the spirit of John Cooper – the visionary who transformed a humble compact car into a motorsport icon. The track day featured the latest performance-driven models, including the new MINI JCW, first-ever all-electric MINI John Cooper Works, first-ever all-electric MINI John Cooper Works Aceman and MINI John Cooper Works Countryman. These latest additions to the new MINI family combine bold innovation with MINI's racing DNA, offering purist design, electrifying performance and go-kart-like handling that reimagine the brand's legacy for a new generation. Across two dedicated zones, participants had the opportunity to test the limits of MINI's most thrilling models. The 3.4-kilometre JCW Drive Zone was built for high-speed sprints and cornering. The JCW Track Zone, meanwhile, was inspired by the legendary Kartdromo Parma circuit in Italy. The circuit is known for its tight corners and technical complexity, challenges drivers with a layout designed to push traction, control, and braking precision under pressure. Whether it is the classic MINI JCW or the fully electric MINI JCW Aceman, each model was put to the test where they can truly stand out, on the track. MINI Malaysia urged participants to unleash their "Beast Mode"' although we felt the real beasst here were the many MINIs available for test and it was up to us to tame them. At the end of the test, participants were presented with a track bred certificate to signify that our "powerful performance has made its mark on the track". Also on display at the track day were the MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper 5 Door, all-electric MINI Cooper, new MINI convertible, MINI Countryman, all-electric MINI Countryman and all-electric MINI Aceman, which were featured in two distinct editions. The all-electric MINI Aceman Track Edition features exclusive race livery on the hood, sides and rear of the vehicle and a MINI floating hub cap. This all-electric MINI Aceman Slick Edition features silver livery across the hood, sides and rear, and is also adorned with the signature floating hub cap, completing a showcase of sheer driving excitement and design individuality.

Unassuming MINI Countryman becomes ‘The Beast': a Dakar Rally-spec off-road monster

The style-conscious MINI Countryman is targeted more at the glamping crowd than those who like to get properly dirty exploring the wilderness, and very few of these SUVs are likely to go off-road at all. However, after heavy modifications, this new concept model has us thinking that MINI could take on the infamous Dakar Rally. Advertisement - Article continues below This rather serious-looking machine comes from the minds at delta4x4, which produces off-road parts and accessories for cars like the Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes G-Class. The firm also worked with the German rally team X-raid that has won the Dakar Rally six times to date. The two organisations have already collaborated on one beefed-up version of the latest MINI Countryman. The idea for this more extreme, but still road-legal, version apparently started as an April fools' joke, but we're told that if there's enough demand, delta4x4 will build a small number for people to buy. The only vaguely off-road-orientated features on the standard MINI Countryman are a 'Trial' mode that showed drivers a compass and some terrain incline information, plus the fact customers can order it with all-wheel drive. Naturally, the concept, which the X-raid team calls the 'the beast', gets a 50mm increase in ride height. This will have significantly improved the Countryman's approach, departure and breakover angles, but also allowed delta4x4 to fit the more aggressive all-terrain tyres, wrapped around 18-inch beadlock wheels. The dramatic wheelarch extensions and presumably wider track will help off-road performance too, and should make this version of the Countryman more stable across rough terrain. There's also a large bull bar up front for extra protection, but the faux skid plates from the regular model have stuck around. Finally, the large roof platform offers space for a full-size spare wheel, two jerry cans, a couple of recovery boards and ladders, a shovel and other storage boxes. There are pannier boxes on either side too – like you can get on a Land Rover Defender – as well as a light bar mounted on the roof and a total of 10 spotlights across the front of the car. There's no mention of what version of the MINI Countryman this concept is based on, as there are both petrol-powered and pure-electric models with the brand's 'ALL4' all-wheel drive system. Hopefully potential customers will get a choice, if they plead loudly enough for delta4x4 to actually make this car. We've got our fingers crossed. All-New MINI Cooper 5-Door Lands in Egypt: More Space, Same Fun

Global Auto, the official importer of MINI in Egypt, has announced the arrival of the All-New MINI Cooper 5-Door, the third model from the New MINI Family to debut in the local market, following the successful launches of the latest MINI Countryman and MINI Cooper 3-Door. The 5-Door variant expands the British brand's model range, offering enhanced practicality while still maintaining MINI's signature fun-to-drive character and the intense go-kart feeling. Like its 3-Door sibling, the MINI Cooper 5-Door embodies MINI's new design language, 'Charismatic Simplicity,' while adding two extra doors for even more appeal and space. A large split black octagonal grille dominates the front, flanked by sleek circular headlights with LED daytime running lights. The body-colored bar that separates the grille is marginally slimmer than that of the 3-Door. The exterior stands out thanks to the iconic short bonnet, shapeshifting headlights and taillights displaying different modes, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a range of customizable roof options, including Black, White, Multitone Blue, and Body Color. Compared to its smaller sibling, the MINI Cooper 5-Door has grown in size to accommodate two extra doors, featuring a 72 mm longer wheelbase and a 172 mm longer body. This expansion offers significantly more space and comfort, ensuring that five passengers can enjoy the ride easily. Inside, the All-New MINI Cooper 5-Door variant offers seating for five and adopts the same minimalist design as its 3-Door sibling, reflecting MINI's classic design aesthetic. A large circular, 9.4-inch OLED display dominates the dashboard's center, serving as a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment touchscreen. Powered by the latest MINI Operating System 9, the OLED display offers seven MINI Experience Modes: Core, Green, Go-Kart, Timeless, Vivid, Balance, and Trail. Comfort is at an all-time high thanks to dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, wireless charging, a panoramic glass roof, a heated sports steering wheel, Vescin leather upholstery, MINI Head-Up Display (HUD), and manual-adjustable front sports seats. In terms of safety, the All-New MINI Cooper 5-Door comes with a long list of driver-assistance features, including the 'Active Guard' package comprising front collision warning with brake intervention, left-turn warning with brake function, and evasion assistant. Other safety features include a Brake-Pad Wear Indicator, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Run-Flat Tyres, and parking assist functionalities. At the heart of the All-New MINI Cooper 5-Door lies a three-cylinder, turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, delivering 156 hp and 230 Nm of torque. Coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission (Steptronic) with a double clutch, the powerful mill has a 0-100 km/h time of 8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 225 km/h. As for the price tag of the latest MINI Cooper 5-Door, it comes in at L.E. 2,275,000. تم نسخ الرابط
