Woman injured in NH accident dies
Bhubaneswar: A woman, who was critically injured after being hit by a speeding SUV on NH-16 at Patrapada on Saturday, succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Monday. The accident killed her eight-year-old daughter. The deceased was identified as Revati Roul. Revati, her daughter and two-year-old son were crossing the highway when they were hit by the car. Revati's son is undergoing treatment at AIIMS. Sources said Revati was the wife of home guard Manas Roul. Following Revati's death, residents of of Phuleswari Basti in Patrapada once again took to the streets and blocked NH-16 on Monday evening, halting vehicular movement. Residents had on Sunday held a similar protest, demanding the arrest of the driver, who is on the run. They also demanded the construction of a foot overbridge at the site. "It's been over 48 hours since the accident, but still the police have found no clues about the accused driver. In whose interest are police protecting the driver?" a protester questioned. As tension escalated, a team of commissionerate police, led by DCP Jagmohan Meena, arrived at the spot and tried to pacify the agitators and clear the traffic. Crop insurance boost: Agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to transfer Rs 3,200 cr PMFBY claims on Monday; new rules bring faster payouts
Agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will digitally transfer Rs 3,200 crore in crop insurance claims on Monday under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to 30 lakh farmer beneficiaries. The transfer will take place during an event in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, and state agriculture minister Kirodi Lal Meena, PTI reported. According to an official statement, of the total claim amount, Rs 1,156 crore will go to farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Rs 1,121 crore to 7 lakh farmers in Rajasthan, Rs 150 crore to beneficiaries in Chhattisgarh, and Rs 773 crore to farmers in other states. Chouhan said the Centre has introduced a simplified claim settlement system in the interest of farmers, allowing proportionate payments based only on the central subsidy without waiting for the state's premium contribution.
