Sports Seriously MLB OPENING DAY 2025: Schedule, scores and highlights Sometimes, the storybook doesn't follow the intended script. Tanner Bibee turned himself into the Guardians' No. 1 starter last year and recently signed a five-year, $48 million contract extension that could keep him in Cleveland through the 2030 season with a club option. There was a wave of positive momentum surrounding Bibee entering the 2025 season. He was then tasked with taking the ball for the Guardians' Opening Day game against the Kansas City Royals Thursday, but an illness has changed those plans, and he has been scratched from the start. Instead, Ben Lively, coming off of a career year in 2024, will take the mound for the Guardians. The USA TODAY app gets you to the heart of the news — fast. MLB Opening Day schedule 2025, ranked: Which games to watch on Thursday

MLB Opening Day schedule 2025, ranked: Which games to watch on Thursday HEY HEY IT'S OPENING DAY! That's right, it's time for 2025 MLB Opening Day, with almost every team in action on the first day of the season. And while there's that whole men's March Madness Sweet 16 thing at night, there's a lot of great baseball action on Thursday. And if you need a guide to every game, we've got it for you: a ranking of every game -- which ones you should watch if you can and which ones you can pass on if you need a break. MORE MLB OPENING DAY: The best NRFI bets to make Let's dive in and rank all 14 games on Thursday by watchability (all times Eastern): 14. Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox, 4:10 p.m. Yikes. I'll pass. 13. Athletics at Seattle Mariners, 10:10 p.m. We'll be knee-deep in the men's March Madness Sweet 16 and I don't feel like staying up late for this one. Might be good, but I think there are better games out there. Two teams that could be sneaky good, but there are way better games on the slate. 10. Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals, 4:05 p.m. One team is good. One team is not. I'll say pass on this one. Similar to the one above. If it was on earlier on the East Coast, it'd be higher. 7. Milwaukee Brewers at New York Yankees, 3 p.m. OK, you've got my attention. The first game of the day, it's on ESPN ... yeah, solid. PAUL SKENES VS. SANDY ALCANTARA!! ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? Juan Soto's first Mets game. Heck yeah. 4. Cleveland Guardians at Kansa City Royals, 4:10 p.m. We've reached the "maybe this is a future playoff game" tier. See above. Could be the ALCS if we're lucky. 1. Detroit Tigers at Los Angeles Dodgers, 7 p.m. Could be a World Series matchup, and maybe you want to see the All-Star Dodgers against Tarik Skubal.
