📈 MLS Power Rankings: Miami hit new low, Minnesota climb, and more
The MLS Power Rankings experienced quite the shakeup this week after some surprise results over the weekend. While the Eastern Conference had dominated the top-five in the early weeks of the season, the balance is starting to shift in the top-10. Let's dig in. This week we will introduce a new section into the Power Rankings —'On the Bubble'. The teams in this section are just knocking on the door of the top-10 and barely failed to make the cut this week, but do deserve mention for recent form. On the Bubble: Nashville SC, Portland Timbers, Orlando City, New York Red Bulls. 📸 Thomas Shea-Imagn Images Look out people, Seattle Sounders are on the march. The addition of Ryan Kent has sparked new life in a Seattle side struggling for goals earlier in the season, but now they have won four of their last five, scoring 14 goals in the process. Performances are trending up, but they need to start picking up more wins. 📸 Steve Roberts-Imagn Images After starting the season in legitimate Supporters Shield caliber form, Charlotte have seemingly hit a wall with three straight defeats in MLS. Wilfried Zaha has just three goals in 10 games so far this season. If Charlotte are to rediscover their early spring form, he will have to be a catalyst. 📸 Joe Puetz-Imagn Images San Diego just continue to fly under the radar as one of the top teams in the Western Conference. The 'Daygo Boys' have won two straight in MLS after a short losing streak, jumping up into the top-four in the conference once again. Anders Dreyer and Chucky Lozano remain one of the top wing pairings in all of MLS. Thanks to Anders Dreyer's game-winning goal tonight, @sandiegofc is currently the only team in @MLS to have multiple players with at least 10 goal contributions (Dreyer and Hirving Lozano). — MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) May 11, 2025 📸 Kyle Ross-Imagn Images The Union have been in the Eastern Conference picture all season, but they remain a team without a signature win up to this point. Against Columbus Crew over the weekend, Philadelphia were seconds away from picking it up, but a stoppage-time dagger left honors even. But vibes remain positive in the City of Brotherly Love after a record start to an MLS campaign. The BEST start in club history 🔥#DOOP — Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) May 9, 2025 📸 David Berding - 2025 Getty Images It's a new low for Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. The Herons have picked up wins in just two of their last six games, and serious questions are being asked about rookie head coach Javier Mascherano. Days later, I'm still absolutely dying at Jordi Alba's 'defending' in Inter Miami's latest goes to quadruple team an opponent in the corner for no reason at all and leaves a giant gap in the middle of the all-time bad decision-making -- but peak comedy. — Joseph Lowery (@joeclowery) May 13, 2025 📸 Kyle Ross-Imagn Images The Crew are perhaps unlucky to have slipped a few places in the standings, but is largely due to the fact that they picked up just a point over the weekend, while a couple of teams around them in the top-10 secured big victories. Don't forget though, the Crew are in the hunt for an Eastern Conference title and potentially a Supporters Shield even without a recognizable star attacker. 📸 David Berding - 2025 Getty Images After a small dip, the Loons have come flying back into the top-three off the back of a comprehensive victory over Inter Miami on Saturday. The showdown in Saint Paul was the epitome of a well-drilled cohesive unit outplaying a team of individuals. And with winter signing Evander putting up MVP-caliber numbers, few teams look prepared to go toe-to-toe with Pat Noonan's side. Cincy have now won seven of their last eight in MLS and regularly look impenetrable. Of players in the @MLS with 5+ goals, FC Cincinnati's Evander has the lowest xG of them has a 2.5 xG, meaning he's been making some statistically impossible of stat from a guy who's leading the MVP conversation.#AllForCincy #FCCincinnati — Sam Wade (@samwade35) May 13, 2025 📸 Anne-Marie Sorvin-Imagn Images They may have slightly cooled off in the league as of late, but the Whitecaps are still the team to beat in MLS. 📈 MLS Power Rankings: Miami fall off their perch, Cincinnati climb
We're back with another edition of the MLS Power Rankings off the back of the Matchday 10 slate of fixtures. Let's dig into the top-10. 10. Nashville SC (🆕) 📸 Casey Gower-Imagn Images Nashville rejoin the top-10 after a historic 7-2 win over Chicago over the weekend. Sam Surridge bagged four goals as B.J. Callaghan's side cruised back into the top-six in the Western Conference. 9. LAFC (👎) 📸 Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images Advertisement LAFC just simply can't find the consistency they have been regularly hailed for over the years. A stoppage-time equalizer saved the SoCal club against St. Louis City on Sunday, meaning LAFC have dropped points for the second straight week. 8. Portland Timbers (👍) 📸 Ronald Martinez - 2025 Getty Images The Timbers are on an absolute roll. Phil Neville's side have won five of their last seven games, and are unbeaten in eight. In the process they have racked up the joint-most goals scored in MLS. Look out Western Conference foes, Portland have found their counter-attacking feet once again. 7. Minnesota United (👎) 📸 Brace Hemmelgarn-Imagn Images Advertisement April has been a test of Minnesota United's mettle. The Loons have failed to win in three straight, two of which were goalless draws. But with the addition of Julian Gressel they should be getting better service into the dynamic duo of Tani Oluwaseyi and Kelvin Yeboah going forward. 6. Charlotte FC (👎) 📸 Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images Charlotte slip this week after their first defeat at home this season, falling to New England in a sluggish match. But thanks to three straight victories before tasting defeat at the weekend, Dean Smith's side remain right in the heart of the hotly-contested Eastern Conference. 5. Philadelphia Union (👍) 📸 Caean Couto-Imagn Images Advertisement The Union are back up into the top-five after a comfortable victory over D.C. United. Philadelphia have now won their last two games by a combined score of 6-0 and look well on track to rediscover the red-hot form we saw in the opening few weeks of the season. 4. Inter Miami (👎) 📸 Rich Storry - 2025 Getty Images The Herons have fallen off their perch once again after tasting defeat in dramatic fashion at home against FC Dallas. Defensive vulnerabilities have been apparent for Javier Mascherano's side all season, but somehow it took until the last weekend in April for a team to really exploit them. 3. FC Cincinnati (👍) 📸 Katie Stratman-Imagn Images Advertisement Look out ladies and gentlemen, FC Cincinnati are flying once again. Pat Noonan and the club's decision makers put together one of the strongest squads during the winter transfer window and they are finally reaping the rewards after a fifth-straight victory. 2. Columbus Crew (👍) 📸 Samantha Madar/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images After the Crew saw their unbeaten run come to an end against Inter Miami, they bounced back in superb fashion with a gutsy win over San Jose on Saturday. It may not be the same superstars pulling the strings for Columbus as we've seen in recent seasons, but Wilfried Nancy's team always seems to find a way to perform. 1. Vancouver Whitecaps (👍) 📸 Brace Hemmelgarn-Imagn Images Advertisement Look it is, folks. The Vancouver Whitecaps are back on top and deservedly so. Just days after a stunning Champions Cup win over Inter Miami, Vancouver collected a comfortable victory over Minnesota United. Jesper Sørensen's side should not be considered a Cinderella story anymore, they are simply just one of the best teams in the league. 📸 Featured Image: Katie Stratman / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

📈 MLS Power Rankings: Miami climb, a pair of surprises in the top-three
The MLS Power Rankings are truly beginning to take shape, and it is no secret that there are a number of surprises from the opening few weeks of the campaign. From Atlanta's slow start to Philadelphia's rapid one, let's dig into the top-10 rankings after matchday 3. 📸 Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images It took until week three for the Quakes to suffer their first defeat under Bruce Arena, a marked improvement after finishing bottom of the league last season. Yet if San Jose are going to become a mainstay in the top-10 they will have to make PayPal Park a fortress this season. 📸 Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images The Loons' start to the 2025 season may be low-key so far, but two wins from three will give Eric Ramsay's side absolutely no complaints. With all three games to start to the season finishing 1-0, the Loons have shown a propensity for staying in matches, no matter the caliber of the opposition. Kelvin with the seismic shift — Minnesota United FC (@MNUFC) March 9, 2025 📸 Jamie Sabau-Imagn Images San Diego may have been the majority's pick for Wooden Spoon contenders, but the expansion club have proven the doubters wrong in the early weeks of the season. They proved their worth once again over the weekend with a comprehensive victory over Real Salt Lake. Mikey Varas' side remain unbeaten in their entire club history. 📸 Steven Bisig-Imagn Images It felt like the Sounders had been waiting on their breakout game this season, but they certainly found it when they put five past LAFC in a comfortable thrashing at Lumen Field. This Seattle side personifies the depth over star-power philosophy, but if this past weekend is anything to go by, their lack of a superstar is not going to be an issue. Jordan Morris scores the 87th goal of his @SoundersFC career, making him the all-time leading scorer for the club. ☝️Seattle lead 3-1 at home! — Major League Soccer (@MLS) March 8, 2025 📸 Steven Bisig-Imagn Images LAFC slide the most of any team in our top-10 this week after the aforementioned beatdown in the Pacific Northwest, but don't fret LAFC faithful, the Black and Gold will not remain outside of the top-five for long. With the squad being stretched by Concacaf Champions Cup fixtures during the week, they should come back into the conversation when they can focus on home-front affairs. 📸 Samantha Madar/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Crew may just be showing the first signs of teething in the wake of departures of some key stars in the offseason. Including the first-leg of their Champions Cup clash with LAFC last week, Wilfried Nancy's side have not won, or scored, in two straight matches. There is plenty of confidence in the system in Columbus, but the thin squad will be tested in the coming weeks. 📸 Kareem Elgazzar-Imagn Images Pat Noonan's side got back to winning ways in MLS over the weekend, comfortably easing past Toronto, but they remain focused on a highly competitive Champions Cup tie with Liga MX giants Tigres. If they can remain in the win column in MLS while their attention is elsewhere, there is no reason they can't remain in the early Supporters Shield conversation. From front to back in a flash. ⚡An incredible @fccincinnati team goal! — Major League Soccer (@MLS) March 9, 2025 📸 Simon Fearn-Imagn Images The 'Caps are truly one of the wonderful surprises in MLS this season, starting their league campaign with three wins from three. Few people held this Vancouver side in high esteem coming into the season with off-field issues plaguing the discourse in British Columbia, but they have been seemingly shot out of a cannon so far. National team call-up for Brian 🇺🇸Striker Brian White has been called up to the @USMNT for their March international window#VWFC — Vancouver Whitecaps FC (@WhitecapsFC) March 11, 2025 📸 Winslow Townson-Imagn Images The Union are chief among the early shocks in 2025. With Tai Baribo leading from the front, Philadelphia have started life under Bradley Carnell with three wins from three matches, scoring 10 goals in that stretch. The trademark of the club had been to overachieve with lesser resources in the last half-decade, but this start to the season is smashing expectations. Tai Baribo (6 goals in 3 games) is on pace to tie or break the record for most goals through the first 4 games of a season. 👀7 - Edson Buddle (2010)6 - Raul Diaz Arce (1997)6 - Ante Razov (1999) 6 - Carlos Ruiz (2002)6 - Clint Dempsey (2014)6 - Erick Torres (2017)6 -… — Major League Soccer (@MLS) March 11, 2025 📸 CHRIS ARJOON - AFP or licensors With or without Lionel Messi, Inter Miami find a way to carve out results. The Herons played more than 50 minutes of their win against Charlotte on Sunday with 10-men, but it didn't seem to slow them down at all. To make matters worse for Miami's rivals, the true strength of Javier Mascherano's team this season has come from their young core that surrounds the aging superstars. 4-straight games with a goal (across competitions) 🔥 Instant impact from @InterMiamiCF's newest midfielder Tadeo Allende. — Major League Soccer (@MLS) March 9, 2025 📸 Rich Storry - 2025 Getty Images
