The award ceremony was attended by Khalid Abdulla Mohammed Al Shehhi, Director of the Representative Office, MOHAP – Ras Al Khaimah, alongside key dignitaries, healthcare leaders, and sponsors. This year's challenge saw an unprecedented 24,289 participants from across the UAE, making it the most successful edition to date. Ras Al Khaimah accounted for 49% of total participation, reflecting the emirate's growing commitment to health and wellness. With an almost equal gender split (54% male, 46% female), the initiative engaged individuals, families, corporate teams, and school communities, cementing its role as the UAE's most inclusive wellness movement. Participants who completed the 12-week programme recorded an average weight loss of 8.8 kilogrammes, with many undergoing life-changing transformations. The challenge featured both physical and virtual categories, as well as corporate and school staff competitions. A new family category, comprising husband & wife teams, saw over 100 couples participating. Top performers were recognised with cash prizes, healthy monthly meal packages, luxury staycations, gym memberships, executive health check-ups, and wellness packages. I began my journey the very next day after registering, and over three months, I lost more than 45 kilogrammes through sheer discipline and determination. 'At the start, it was extremely difficult — my weight was very high and even simple tasks like walking felt exhausting. But I committed to a strict diet, completely eliminating sugar and carbs, and made it a point to walk every evening after work, even if only for 15 to 30 minutes. Slowly but surely, I started noticing changes. Today, I feel lighter, more energetic, and I no longer experience shortness of breath when walking. This transformation has been truly life-changing. The challenge gave me the motivation I needed to take control of my health. With the support of a coach, I now plan to maintain and build on this progress.'

UAE Ministry of Health Launches 2025 Bureaucracy Elimination Plan

This ambitious overhaul of the health sector has already reduced the health service processing time by 90%. Apr 04, 2025 The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has announced the launch of its Bureaucracy Elimination Plan for 2025 aimed at enhancing healthcare service delivery across the UAE. This initiative promises to improve user experiences and streamline processes to create a more efficient and flexible healthcare system. Abdullah Ahmad Ahli, Acting Assistance Undersecretary at MOHAP, highlighted in a press briefing the ministry's focus on innovative, user-centric solutions to meet future healthcare needs. The centerpiece of this overhaul is a large-scale Service Re-engineering Project that seeks to optimise and redesign all services in collaboration with stakeholders and strategic partners, ensuring they align with user needs and preferences. The project's key initiatives include a transformation of digital channels guided by customer councils, focus groups, and user interviews, the launch of the National Unified Licensing Platform to facilitate the integration of skilled medical professionals into the UAE's healthcare system, and the National Digital Experience Centre. This centre will optimise MOHAP's existing digital laboratory, and develop a collaboration between public and private sectors to drive digital healthcare advancements. Dedicated to public involvement in its service design, MOHAP's Customer Experience Lab recently received the 'People Engagement' award at the World Government Summit 2025. The Bureaucracy Elimination Programme is already seeing remarkable results, such as a 90% reduction in service processing time, a 70% decrease in procedural steps, required documents, and regulatory conditions, and a 75% fall in in-person visits to service centres. These outcomes demonstrate a healthcare system that is more accessible and user-friendly, setting new standards for smart, efficient, customer-centred healthcare in the UAE.

UAE: Twin sisters with liver failure get a new lease on life after organ transplant

The lives of Ajman-based teenage twins, Moza and Maryam Tarek Al-Nuaimi, changed dramatically after life-saving liver transplants. Since birth, the two had suffered from liver failure due to a genetic condition. "We thank the Hayat Programme for giving us a healthy life," the Emirati twins told Khaleej Times. "Our lives have changed for the better after the liver transplant." They explained that their condition had made it difficult for them to enjoy everyday life, and they often faced issues like fractures, bleeding, and bruising. "I couldn't sleep as my health was deteriorating, but now I sleep well," Maryam said. Moza added, 'The itching and fatigue have disappeared, and I feel energetic now.' With their health restored, the twins are excited to continue their education at university and specialise in medicine. They are driven by their experiences in hospitals and a desire to help others. The Hayat Programme is an organ donation initiative that aims people to encourage to donate their organs and tissues in accordance with international standards and practices. Long road to recovery The twins' journey to seek treatment took them to several countries, including the UK and South Korea, where they learned about their urgent need for liver transplants. They struggled, however, to find suitable donors. Tarek Al-Nuaimi, their father, shared: "All the hospitals told us that the only solution was a liver transplant." While in South Korea, Moza's health worsened making transplantation critical. 'I decided to donate part of my liver to her. I underwent all the necessary tests," Al-Nuaimi, who is 47-year-old, said. "When the tests showed I had fatty liver, I had to lose weight, so I lost 25 kilos in nearly a month." Al-Nuaimi could do this by exercising five hours a day and focusing on a liquid diet. "During this time, however, Moza's condition improved, and the doctors said a transplant was not immediately necessary as they wanted to monitor how her liver would function." After returning from South Korea in 2018, the family learned about organ transplantation in the UAE and registered for the 'Hayat Programme' under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). Another challenge In 2022, Al-Nuaimi and his wife faced another challenge when their son was diagnosed with kidney failure at the age of nine. He required daily dialysis, undergoing treatment for 10 to 12 hours, as he waited for a donor. When a donor became available for Moza in 2023, her health improved significantly. This motivated Tarek and his wife to donate a kidney to their son, significantly improving his condition. In March 2024, Maryam underwent a liver transplant as well. Giving others a chance to live Meanwhile, at the 'Arab Health 2025', a 34-year-old Filipino woman from Dubai explained why she has decided to register with the Hayat Programme. "I know all the details about the program and what it requires. Life is short, and it would be beautiful if we could give others a chance to live after we pass and leave a lasting impact," she said. Another participant, Rawda, a 30-year-old Emirati woman, said, "I have always thought about organ donation but I never found the time to get registered for it. Here at the exhibition, I could easily register for the Hayat Programme. I hope to give hope to someone in need one day."
