42 cattle seized in major raid at illegal farm in Bukit Minyak
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Authorities have seized 42 cattle in a large-scale enforcement operation against an illegal livestock farm operating without a permit in the Bukit Minyak industrial area.
The raid, conducted by the Health Services Department of the Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP), targeted a makeshift cattle enclosure built on land adjacent to the Sungai Junjung reserve, behind a factory in the industrial zone.
MBSP said in a statement that the operation, which began at 11am yesterday, was the result of weeks of surveillance, public tip-offs and intelligence gathering.
"The illegal farm was found to be operated by several foreign nationals without any valid licenses or approvals.
"This enforcement action was taken following public complaints.
"Investigations revealed that the activities were polluting the environment and posed a threat to public health," it said today.
The city council said a total of 44 enforcement personnel were involved in the operation, which also saw the participation of the police.
All seized cattle have been transferred to a facility managed by the state Veterinary Services Department for further action and ongoing monitoring.
The operation was carried out under the MPSP Stray Animals By-Law 1990, in response to reports of roaming livestock causing traffic hazards and faecal pollution on public roads.
