Businessline conclave to focus on MSMEs' role in ‘Make in India' mission

To celebrate the work of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), The Hindu Businessline is hosting its annual MSME conclave. The fourth edition, to be held in two cities, Bengaluru (June 25) and Coimbatore (June 27), will discuss their contribution to the Indian growth story. The first event at Bengaluru, presented in association with NITTE (deemed-to-be university), will feature two power-packed panel discussions — one on defence titled 'MSME: Call to Arms (Supplying to Defence)' and the other on 'Powering Make in India' — and a fireside chat. MSME Day is observed world over annually on June 27 to celebrate these enterprises and recognise their importance, shed light on their contributions, and promote their growth and sustainability. At the Bengaluru conclave, Priyank Kharge, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, IT and BT of Karnataka, will be the chief guest. The Guest of Honour is Ananth Narayanan, Founder and CEO, Mensa Brands. The first panel, 'MSMEs: Call to Arms (Supplying to Defence)', will feature Navneet Singh, CEO, Kepler Aero; Priyanka Singhal, Founder, CEO, Ammunic Systems; Lt. Col. Velan (retd.), CEO, Elena Geo; Commander LSS Narendra (retd.), COO and Promoter, C2C Advanced Systems. The session will be moderated by Venkatesha Babu, Resident Editor, The Hindu Businessline. The second panel, 'MSMEs: Powering Make in India,' will have Rajeev Kaul, MD, Aequs Ltd; Vijay Peri, Vice-President, India Industrials, Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses; Digbijoy Nath, Co-founder, CTO, Agnit; Sumeet B Patil, Head, Operations, Ethereal Machines. This session will be moderated by M. Ramesh, Consulting Editor, The Hindu Businessline. The fireside chat with Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan, Chairman and Managing Director, Data Patterns (India) Ltd, will be hosted by Raghuvir Srinivasan, Editor, The Hindu Businessline. The past three years too, on MSME Day, Businessline had hosted similar conclaves for MSMEs, which saw the participation of many from this sector. These enterprises play a vital role in the Indian economy. With a vast network comprising approximately 6.3 crore MSMEs, this sector generates employment opportunities for around 11 crore people. Moong & urad to be procured at MSP in state, says CM Yadav

Bhopal: The state govt has decided to procure moong and urad at minimum support price (MSP) in the interest of farmers. Moong will be procured at Rs 8,682 per quintal in 36 moong-producing districts, while urad will be procured at Rs 7,400 per quintal in 13 urad-producing districts, announced chief minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday. Farmers can register for procurement from June 19 to July 6, and procurement will take place from July 7 to Aug 6. Chief minister Yadav shared this information while addressing his ministerial colleagues ahead of the cabinet meeting held at Mantralaya. He also stated that several initiatives are underway in the state to promote investment. As part of this, a major wellness-focused event was recently organised in Ujjain on the occasion of Ganga Dashami. Continuing in this direction, a summit focused on regional industries and employment will be held in Ratlam on MSME Day (June 27), and a national interactive session on MSME will be organised in Ludhiana on July 7. Yadav informed that the inauguration of first phase of Bhopal Metro is scheduled for Sept. A request will be made to Prime minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Metro. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Ladli Behna beneficiaries will receive an additional payment of Rs 250. Highlighting the significance of International Yoga Day, which is around the corner, Yadav said: This year marks completion of a decade of the event. A 'Yoga Sangam' programme will be organised on June 21 to mark the event. Efforts will be made to set a national record by organising yoga programmes across the maximum number of urban bodies, wards, and panchayats in the state. The chief minister also noted that Madhya Pradesh witnessed a 19.6% increase in tourism within a year. In 2024, a total of 13.41 crore tourists visited the state, which is 19.6% higher compared to 2023. This included 1.67 lakh foreign tourists. He remarked that Madhya Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a leading state in tourism. He directed the ministers to review welfare schemes being run by their respective departments and to share suggestions to make these initiatives more effective.

In 2017, the United Nations General Assembly assigned June 27 as 'MSME Day' with the objective to raise awareness of the immense contributions of MSMEs to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).For India, which is home to more than 64 million MSMEs—only second to China—this is an important day. MSME Day recognises the vital roles played by these enterprises in innovation, job creation, and economic growth. The MSME sector contributes 30% to India's gross domestic product (GDP) and about 45% to total exports. The sector employs over 110 million people across the country.'MSMEs play a transformative role in the economic growth of our country. We are committed to nurturing and strengthening this sector,' Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in of June 10, 2025, as many as 64,607,210 MSMEs have registered on Udyam, which also includes registrations on the Udyam Assist Platform. These MSMEs drive competitiveness and productivity within the economy. They are the backbone of India's economic landscape and have been consistently driving the nation's growth. According to Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi , the medium and small industries sector has registered 15 times growth over the past 10 contribution to employment generation and entrepreneurship also leads to regional development. These MSMEs play an important role in regional development through their efforts in building businesses in underdeveloped and remote areas. They help decentralise economic activities and spread opportunities in semi-urban and rural are present and contribute across all spectrums. They contribute massively to exports, as they manufacture a wide range of products for international markets, including making products for niche markets. If we talk about markets, one will find an Indian MSME in almost every sector, ranging from electronics, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals to household products. According to experts, one of the reasons India remains resilient during times of global turbulence is due to its MSMEs spread across various sectors reducing reliance on a single sector or are also hubs of innovation as well as improvisation, or 'jugaad'. They adapt to the current needs by embracing innovative practices and technological advancements. As a result, MSMEs often serve as crucial suppliers and contractors for large industries. Their contribution to the global value chain is have contributed to developments in sectors like aerospace and defence through schemes such as the Public Procurement Policy for MSEs, the Technology Development Fund, and the iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) framework. The Chandrayaan-3 mission, which took place in 2023, had immense support from MSMEs in India. As per former MSME Minister Narayan Rane, the Bhubaneswar Tool Room, under the Ministry of MSME, developed 54,000 aerospace components of 437 types for the Chandrayaan-3 per experts and industry players, India's MSMEs deserve recognition for their boundless energy and achievements; recognising their efforts, accomplishments, and impact on the economy is only fair.
