‘MSMEs contribute 30% to nation's overall growth at global level'
'Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) though termed as micro, contribute about 30% to the nation's overall growth at global level,' stated Atul Anand, Additional Chief Secretary, MSMEs Department.
Speaking at the Indexpo 2025 inauguration organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small-Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) here on Friday, he said that about ₹3,000 crore-worth global exports were from the MSME sector.
Speaking about the expo, he said, as the exhibition has the latest technology machines related to almost all sectors, manufacturers from southern districts looking forward to an opportunity to expand their business could utilise the event.
He stated that through technological intervention, the agricultural products exported from the southern districts could be enhanced and widened.
Mr. Anand appealed to the MSME sectors and forums like MADITSSIA to utilise the opportunity provided by the government to attend trade fairs in overseas countries.
'As we are made aware through manufacturers and MADITISSIA about the need for an industrial estate, we will take steps to make that possible through SIPCOT or SIDCO,' he noted.
If MADITSSIA, through coordinated efforts with the district administration, could earmark a suitable area for the estate, the government through the industrial corporations would provide its full support, he assured.
Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar, speaking at the event, said that the MSME sectors from the State were contributing 16% at national level and it stood number one in the country.
'Also, Tamil Nadu is one of the States where there is a more number of women entrepreneurs. While it is partly due to the existing conducive environment, it is also because of the training and capital subsidies granted by the State government through various schemes and programmes,' he added.
It could otherwise be said that the start-ups and manufacturers have easy access to financial aid and support, Mr. Kumar noted.
Recalling his days in Madurai as Corporation Commissioner, he said that he witnessed the same Indexpo event which was held with 150 stalls.
'Now it has expanded to give space to 250 stalls,' he added.
Also, he said that he wished to see the event happening in their own convention hall, which was under construction, when it would be organised in the following years.
Speaking about the role of industrialists in Madurai's master plan for 2024-2040, he said that all the requests and demands of theirs were considered and the plan would be an industry friendly and industry-driven.
MADITSSIA president A. Kodeeswaran welcomed. Exhibition chairman V. Senthilkumar gave an outline on the stalls and special features of the expo.
