Nebraska football tight end Mac Markway out for season with torn ACL
Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule gave a status update on tight end Mac Markway on Thursday. The coach officially confirmed that the tight end is out for a second season with a torn ACL.
He came to Lincoln in 2024, but suffered a torn ACL injury before the start of the season. He entered the 2025 fall camp with a chance to work his way into the type end rotation. Now, it appears he has suffered another setback, as the ACL repair reportedly failed.
He came to Lincoln by way of LSU, where he played limited action. He caught three passes for 16 yards in 2023. Rhule gave some information regarding the injury in his meeting with the media on Thursday.
'After the first practice, he came in and had some swelling in his knee, not until the next day,' he said. 'Unfortunately, the ACL repair failed for him. It's heartbreaking news. He's an unbelievable human. I felt terrible for him. It wasn't any one play, nothing that he even knows necessarily happened. Just some swelling. Got through the walk through that night, then came in the next morning. We got through day one, talked about him, we were really excited for what we knew he was about to do. I know the human he is and I'm excited for what he does next. I just wanted to make sure you guys heard that from me.'
This is certainly unfortunate news for the program and the tight end position. Nebraska has the depth to withstand the injury, but this is the difficult part of preseason camp.
