Organisers of Powys LGBT Pride event confirm return for 2025
Having successfully held the town's first ever LGBTQ+ Pride event in 2024, organisers of Machynlleth Pride say the event will be returning.
As the inaugural Machynlleth Pride event welcomed hundreds of people last year, organisers say they are 'excited to bring it back again this year'.
Sarah Archer, one of the organisers behind the first event, has launched a fundraiser to help raise money towards the event, adding that 'any amount' they are able to raise in preparation for the 2025 event would be 'hugely appreciated'.
She said: 'After the roaring success of Machynlleth Pride 2024 we are excited to bring it back again this year.
'Within this wonderfully diverse and vibrant community of Machynlleth, we hope to bring together LGBTQIA+ people of all ages, families and allies to enjoy a day of fun, solidarity and creativity. Can you donate some money to help make this happen?
'We aim to make the day as inclusive as possible, but this comes at a cost- any amount you can donate will be hugely appreciated.
'With Big Gay Love from the Machynlleth Pride organisers.'
The 2024 pride event was held on Y Plas grounds and saw performances by local musicians, drag artists, as well as workshops and informational sessions aimed at raising awareness about LGBTQ+ issues.
The event was supported from Machynlleth businesses as well, with many donning Pride flags, bunting and decorating their windows in celebration of the event.
Local sponsors of the Pride Picnic included the Wynnstay Hotel, Machynlleth Town Council, Y Plas, Hilltop Tents, Gwen, Glamping Luxury Domes, Tal y Lyn, Magic Lantern, Hermit Crab, The Deco Shop, Dyfi Biomass and Mid Wales Storage.
Machynlleth Mayor Jeremy Paige said: 'The town council is proud to host Mach Pride and it is a testament to our collective dedication towards improving inclusivity.
'Pride has a long history and is an important occasion to celebrate diversity and to stand together against discrimination. Everyone is welcome to join in this historic celebration and we wish the event every success.'
Shortly after the event, organisers added that they were hoping to expand for 2025, forming a working group to hear feedback on how the event could be improved for next time.
