Warren man charged with second-degree murder after victim found with large cut across neck
A Warren man is facing second-degree murder charges and is accused of killing another man who was found with a large cut across his neck. Police and EMS personnel responded to a Warren home late on May 31 and found Travis James Holdburg, 22, standing in the driveway. When first responders entered the home, they found a dead man with multiple injuries and a large cut across his neck, Macomb County prosecutors say. Holdburg was arraigned Tuesday on one count of second-degree murder and given a $1 million bond. If released, Holdburg must wear a GPS tether, cannot have contact with any witnesses and cannot have contact within a quarter mile of where the incident happened. "This was a brutal and senseless act of violence. The sheer disregard for human life is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. Our office will pursue justice with the full weight of the law to ensure the individual responsible is held fully accountable. We must continue to stand united against this kind of violence and affirm that it has no place in our neighborhoods," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a news release. Holdburg returns to court for a probable cause conference on June 10. He has a preliminary examination on June 17.

Warren man sentenced for sexually assaulting two girls, prosecutor says
A Warren, Michigan, man has been sentenced for sexually assaulting two girls in 2013. The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office says Christopher Michael Rushing was sentenced Thursday to 25 to 50 years in prison on each of four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child younger than 13. "The prison term for counts one and two will run consecutively to counts three and four," the prosecutor's office said in a release. A jury found Rushing guilty of the charges in April after a two-day trial. Rushing will be eligible for parole in 50 years. "This verdict and sentence send a clear message: those who prey on our most vulnerable, our children, will be held fully accountable," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a release on Friday. "The strength and courage shown by the victims and their families throughout this process is nothing short of heroic."

Michigan teen charged for armed robbery, fleeing police in Mount Clemens
Repairs to Belle Isle fountain; financial impact of tariffs; and more top stories Repairs to Belle Isle fountain; financial impact of tariffs; and more top stories Repairs to Belle Isle fountain; financial impact of tariffs; and more top stories A Roseville, Michigan, teen is facing charges for allegedly using a weapon to steal a minibike and fleeing police. According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, the 17-year-old is charged as an adult for one count of armed robbery, one count of felony firearm, one count of fleeing a police officer, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of malicious destruction of fire or police property and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a license. The teen was arraigned and received a $50,000 cash/surety bond. He must wear a steel-cuff GPS tether and have no contact with the victim or possess a gun if released. Prosecutors say on May 7, the teen allegedly grabbed a pneumatic airsoft gun that resembled a Glock and threatened to shoot an individual if they didn't give him the minibike. The teen took the bike and put it in his car before driving away. The victim called authorities to report the theft. Deputies with the Macomb County Sheriff's Office located the teen's car, leading to a police chase. The prosecutor's office said the teen was taken into custody after colliding with deputies. The minibike was returned to the victim. "The decision to charge a juvenile as an adult does not come lightly. However, the gravity of these crimes plus the need to seek justice for the victim and protect the public required this solemn action," said Prosecutor Pete Lucido in a statement. "When I served in the Michigan Senate, I authored and passed the legislation that ended the prosecutorial practice of automatically charging 17-year-olds as adults to provide more discretion and fairness in the justice system. I believe in measured justice and giving second chances to young people. But, in this case, this juvenile's alleged grievous conduct requires me to charge him as an adult." A probable cause conference is scheduled for May 27, and a preliminary examination will be scheduled for a later date.
