Warren teen, 17, faces several adult charges over Eastpointe shooting
A teenager has been charged as an adult in connection with a July 22 shooting in Eastpointe, Michigan. Joshua Dismuke, 17, of Warren, was arraigned as an adult Thursday at 38th District Court in Eastpointe, the Macomb County Prosecutor's office said. "While the defendant is a juvenile, the charges, particularly assault with intent to murder, are extremely serious, and the decision to charge him as an adult reflects the gravity of the offense," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a statement. The shooting happened at a home on Kelly Road where a group of individuals had gathered to make a music video, the prosecutor's report said. Eastpointe Police Department, which led the response, worked with the St. Clair Shores K-9 Unit, St. Clair Shores Drone Unit, Roseville Police Department and Michigan State Police to locate three individuals who were seen running away from that location. Dismuke is charged with assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, discharging a firearm in or at a building, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon, lying to a police officer, possession of a firearm by a minor, assaulting or resisting a police officer, and larceny of a firearm. Bond was set at $1 million. Dismuke will continue to be detained at the Juvenile Justice Center in Mt. Clemens. If he can post bond, the conditions of release include a GPS tether. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Aug. 12 in the 38th District Court.

Detroit-area man accused stealing truck and trailer from high school
A Warren, Michigan, man is facing charges for allegedly stealing a truck and trailer from Warren Mott High School, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. Matthew Gonzales, 45, was arraigned on Wednesday for larceny of $20,000 or more, unlawfully driving a motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing police and operating with a suspended or revoked license. Gonzales received a $1 million cash/surety bond and must receive a substance abuse evaluation. If released, he is ordered to wear a steel cuff tether and submit to random drug testing. Prosecutors say on Tuesday, July 29, a Warren Consolidated School employee working at the high school spotted someone getting into the Chevy Silverado and driving away. Attached to the truck was a trailer that had three lawn mowers, a chainsaw and a backpack blower belonging to the district, according to a news release. Responding officers located the vehicle on Mound Road and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to stop, resulting in a police chase to Mount Elliot and E. Lantz streets in Detroit. Gonzales was taken into custody. "Stealing a truck and trailer from a school in broad daylight is a serious offense, made worse by the suspect's decision to flee from police. This reckless behavior endangered the public and showed a clear disregard for the law and community safety. Our office will pursue appropriate charges. We're committed to ensuring accountability and thank local officers for their swift response," said Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a statement. Gonzales's next court hearing is Aug. 12.

Clinton Township man pleads no contest to impersonating a first responder
A Michigan man has pleaded no contest to multiple charges relating to impersonating emergency personnel, the Macomb County (Michigan) Prosecutor's Office reported. Jason Edward Barnes, 48, of Clinton Township, will be sentenced Aug. 19. He pleaded no contest Friday to the following charges with a habitual offender-second offense notice. Possession of firearms by a prohibited person, a five-year felony. Ammunition possession by a prohibited person, a five-year felony. Unlawful use of a fire emblem, a 93-day misdemeanor. Three counts of impersonating a firefighter/emergency medical service, each a two-year felony. The investigation started Oct. 19, 2023, as a Clinton Township police officer was at a location where a homicide occurred. Barnes is accused of representing himself as a first responder, offering assistance to the officer. "That event led to further investigation into Barnes. It is alleged that on other occasions, Barnes would impersonate Firefighter/EMS personnel at active crime scenes," the report said. The resulting charges came out of three separate incidents. "Impersonating a first responder, whether it be law enforcement, fire, or EMS, is a serious offense that undermines public trust and puts our community at risk. These roles carry tremendous responsibility and authority. Abusing that trust for personal gain or deception cannot be tolerated," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a statement.
