Madhya Pradesh League a platform where young players get the opportunity to prove themselves, says Rewa Jaguars owner
Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 8 (ANI): Rewa Jaguars owner Alok Birla believes the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) is a powerful platform for aspiring cricketers to showcase their talent at the big stage. The Madhya Pradesh League will begin on June 12 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Shankarpur, Gwalior. With a vision that extends beyond just participation, Rewa Jaguars owners are focused on creating a franchise that nurtures players both on and off the field. 'I want to create a franchise where players are getting benefited both in terms of their livelihood and in terms of their opportunities, because my vision is not only to participate in MPL but at the same time give them personalised coaching and make them mentally and physically fit. So, my thought was always that if players stay with the franchise, then they can grow even more,' said Alok Birla, owner of Rewa Jaguars, as quoted by the MPL press release. 'In life everybody wants to have an opportunity where they want to showcase their talent or showcase their calibre or showcase their skills. This happens everywhere in life. So, Madhya Pradesh League is something where it's a platform, it's an opportunity, it's a tournament where you can get yourself exposed for the next levels,' he added. The owner of Rewa Jaguars cited the example of Shivam Shukla, who hogged the limelight during the last season of the Madhya Pradesh League, and was eventually brought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for Rovman Powell in IPL 2025 last month. 'Like Shivam Shukla is the right answer to this question. Last year, he played in the Madhya Pradesh League, and now he is playing for KKR. So, that's how everybody looks for playing the Madhya Pradesh League,' said Alok Birla. 'It's a platform given by Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association where things are going to be very good for all those young talents who are born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh towards cricket,' he added. Even Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had described the Madhya Pradesh League as a launchpad for young players in recent address in Gwalior during the inauguration of the second season of the Madhya Pradesh League. This time there will be a women's league as well for the second season of Madhya Pradesh League. Chambal Ghariyals, Bhopal Wolves and Bundelkhand Bulls are the teams that will compete in the women's league. Speaking about his vision of investing in the women's cricket, Mr Alok Birla said, 'As of now I don't have any, you know, thought process of buying any or owning any women's team. But yes, I am very much dedicated to work for girls, which I am doing by promoting two girls in Indore, who are playing in Dev Academy.' Organised by Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) under the aegis of MP Cricket Association, the MPL will get underway from June 12. Men's team: Gwalior Cheetahs, Bhopal Leopards, Jabalpur Royal Lions, Rewa Jaguars, Indore Pink Panthers, Chambal Ghariyals, Bundelkhand Bulls. (ANI)

Opening the ceremony, the ownership group of Jabalpur Royal Lions delivered an emotional address that reflected their dual ambition: to develop the MPL into the premier platform for emerging cricket talent in the state and to ensure the game touches lives far beyond the boundaries of the stadium. The launch of a new team anthem and refreshed identity added to the excitement of the evening, with players taking the stage to join hands with Scindia in a symbolic gesture of unity and purpose. In his keynote address, Scindia lauded the initiative: 'I congratulate the Jabalpur Royal Lions on launching the 'Cricket 4 All' initiative. Team representative Luv Malik echoed this sentiment, saying, 'We are proud to be part of this meaningful journey. Through 'Cricket 4 All', we hope to give back to Madhya Pradesh and its aspiring athletes who dream of making it big in cricket.' The event also celebrated MPL alumni who have progressed to the national stage, including selections in the IPL and WPL, recognising their journey and inspiring the next generation of players. Adding another significant milestone to the evening, all team owners unanimously pledged to create employment opportunities, promising two jobs per team per year as part of the MPL's broader commitment to social welfare and development. A major highlight was the unveiling of the MPL-W Trophy, signalling the start of the inaugural women's edition of the league - another giant step in promoting gender inclusivity within state-level cricket.

Chambal gets men's & women's T20 teams in expanded Madhya Pradesh league
The Chambal Ghariyals (alligators) are the newest team to join the mushrooming Madhya Pradesh state T20 league, as the town will soon field teams in both men and women at the June 12 beginning tournament. In its second edition, the MP league which was a roaring success in its first year, has expanded to include teams from Chambal and Bundelkhand. The Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) is set to return for its latest season, commencing June 12 with matches being held in Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Shankarpur, Gwalior. The onset and advance of monsoons and delay in the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL), forced a relocation from Indore to Gwalior, which hosted the first edition last year. Originally, the league was set to commence on May 27 in Indore, aligning with the IPL's earlier scheduled conclusion on May 25. Plenty of IPL stars are products of the local MP league and expected to turn out for their teams. Organised by Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) of MP Cricket Association, the men's competition, which featured five teams last season, has been expanded to seven, with the inclusion of teams from the Bundelkhand and Chambal regions. Both Bundelkhand Bulls and Chambal Ghariyals will have both men's and women's teams. Other men's teams include Gwalior Cheetahs, Bhopal Leopards, Jabalpur Royal Lions, Rewa Jaguars and Indore Pink Panthers, while the third women's team is Bhopal Wolves. Big stars to turn out in MPPL are Avesh Khan, Saransh Jain, Kuldeep Sen, Arshad Khan, Venkatesh Iyer, Kumar Kartikeya and bigly Rajat Patidar. A press release quoted Mahanaaryaman Scindia, the MP cricket chief, saying, 'Gwalior holds a special place in the hearts of our players and fans, and we are thrilled to return here. With two new men's teams and the introduction of our inaugural Women's League, we're proud to expand opportunities for talent across Madhya Pradesh. Speaking about the date and tournament, Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) CEO Ravi Patankar said, 'We are pleased to confirm that all logistical preparations for the venue shift have been successfully completed. With the new start date firmly in place, we look forward to delivering an exciting and seamless tournament for players and fans alike.' The jersey unveiling ceremony will also take place in Gwalior on May 27. This season will witness the launch of a Women's Cricket League, which will be held alongside the men's matches. The inaugural women's competition will feature three teams, including one representing the capital city of Bhopal, though there is much curiosity about the Chambal and Bundelkhand sides.
