Jana Kramer and Friends Debate if Spanking Is Hitting in Candid Discussion About Parenting

Jana Kramer and her friends are ready to debate the topic of spanking. During the Monday, August 11, episode of iHeartRadio's 'Whine Down' podcast, the former One Tree Hill star and her cohosts — Kristen Brust and Kathryn Woodard — reacted to The Bachelor alum Madi Prewett and husband Grant Troutt's plans to spank their daughter Hosanna. 'It's wild to just automatically assume they're going to have to spank this child,' Brust shared. 'We talked about our views at home but I never assumed I'd have to spank [my kids]. … I've never forward thought about hitting my kid.' Woodard explained that she has spanked her children in the past, but believes it should never be done out of anger. Look Back at Jana Kramer and Ex-Husband Mike Caussin's Highs and Lows Through the Years 'We learned very quickly with all of ours that it didn't really work,' she added. 'For me, it was always in a, 'I've tried this. This didn't work. … I've tried this. Let's try this.' Yes, it was different for every child.' During the July 7 episode of Prewett's 'Stay True' podcast, Trout explained his thought process when it comes to spanking. 'When you have a child, you don't just discipline them for being good and obeying you. Like, if [our daughter] Hosanna obeys us, we're not like, 'Come here, girl. Pull 'em down,'' he said. 'We will on the record [spank our child] because the Bible so clearly says, 'Folly is bound up in a child, but discipline drives it far away.'' For Kramer, who identifies as a believer in Christ, she isn't sure what part of the Bible supports spanking. 'I don't think God wants us to take a rod and hit our kids,' she said. 'That's the piece I don't understand. The rod can be your tone.' While the 'Why Ya Wanna' singer — who shares Jolie, 9, and Jace, 6, with ex-husband Mike Caussin and Roman, 20 months, with husband Allan Russell — said she's 'not trying to come down on their parenting in the slightest at all,' she has more questions. 'I think there are other ways to discipline,' Kramer added. 'I associate it with my negative past of things and I don't think you should ever be joyful about hitting.' During the candid conversation amongst friends, Woodard also admitted to Durst that it was hard for her to hear, 'We don't plan on hitting our kids.' Jana Kramer's Relationship History: Past Engagements, Marriages, Divorces and More 'I don't like hearing that,' she said. 'That gives me a negative, like, I'm not hitting my kids but everyone feels differently about that.' Durst, however, stood by her belief that spanking 'is a hit.' 'I have no opinion either way truthfully,' she continued. 'But we put a title on it. If it's corrective hitting, it's still hitting.' Allison Kuch Reacts to Madi Prewett and Her Husband Grant's Comments About Spanking Their Daughter At the end of the discussion, Kramer jokingly asked her friends, 'You guys good?' Both cohosts agreed that it's a personal topic that every parent will have their own views on. 'I'm not shamful of it,' Woodard said when discussing her experience with spanking. "I don't feel that way, but it's not something I'm joyful about.' Solve the daily Crossword

Madi Prewett and Husband Grant Explain Why They Plan to Spank Daughter Hosanna ‘In a Loving Way'

Bachelor alum Madi Prewett and her husband, Grant Troutt, are revealing how they plan to discipline their daughter, Hosanna. 'The Lord's discipline is never disciplined out of emotion,' Troutt, 29, said on the Monday, July 7, episode of Prewett's 'Stay True' podcast. 'The Lord's discipline is always off the heels or disobedience or sin. When you have a child, you don't just discipline them for being good and obeying you. Like, if Hosanna obeys us, we're not like, 'Come here, girl. Pull 'em down.'' Troutt then emphatically admitted that he and Prewett, 29, 'will' use corporal punishment to discipline Hosanna when they deem it necessary. 'The Bible so clearly says, 'Folly is bound up in a child, but discipline drives it far away,'' Troutt said, citing another passage about disciplining kids with a rod. 'It says, 'It will not kill them.'' Madi Prewett and Husband Grant Troutt Chose Daughter's Name 'Right Before' Birth, Reveal Options Prewett, who gave birth to the couple's first child in January, added during Monday's episode that any physical spankings would be done gently. 'It's going to be in a very loving way of saying, 'Hi, sweetheart. Do you know why you're being disciplined? Mommy does not want to discipline you. Mommy does not enjoy having to spank you, but there are consequences to disobedience,'' Prewett said. 'There are consequences to our sin.' She added, 'Discipline proves that we are God's children. It's not God's rejection toward us. It's actually proof that we belong to him.' Prewett and Troutt also concurred that they 'would never' spank anyone else's child. Bachelor Nation's Madison Prewett Had An 'Unexplainable' Few Days After Discussing Purity Beliefs 'They're not our children. They don't belong to us,' she said. 'Now, we might have a conversation with their parents after and be, like, 'What they did is not OK. You should go discipline your children.' We're not responsible for them, and we're not called to discipline them. When it's our own child, we are responsible [and] we are called to discipline them so that they may be more like Jesus.' Prewett was also on the receiving end of being physically disciplined when she was a child. 'Discipline is not pleasant. No one enjoys [it],' she quipped. 'When my dad spanked me when I was young, I didn't enjoy it. But now I look back, and I'm, like, 'Praise God, my dad loved me enough to discipline me. Praise God that my dad loved me enough to train me into righteousness.'' Prewett added, 'I look back to those moments, and I'm so thankful. In the same way, we get to do that with the Lord.'

Madi Prewett on How She's Being Less ‘Reactive' in Marriage to Grant Troutt: ‘Pause and Pray'

Madi Prewett is still learning how to navigate her married life with husband Grant Troutt. 'That's been my downfall, is when I'm just reactive,' Prewett, 29, said on the Monday, June 30, episode of the 'Stay True' podcast. 'Like, a friend does something or even when I'm in a relationship, someone does something that angers me or frustrates me or it hurts my feelings. When I'm reactive in that moment, that's when my mind is led by sin instead of led by the spirit.' She continued, 'That's when we have to be careful. … I've learned this in my marriage and in my relationship with my husband. When he does something that hurts my feelings, most of the time it is not going to be a fruitful or good, godly conversation, if I tell him in that moment.' Prewett noted that she likes to 'take a second,' which she has coined the 'pause and pray,' as she collects her thoughts. Madi Prewett Shares Husband Grant Troutt's 'Radical Transformation' After Having Sex Before Marriage 'You say, 'Holy Spirit, show me where I need to own my part. Holy Spirit, show me how I need to communicate this. How I need to share where I've been hurt,'' Prewett said. 'Make it about yourself instead of making it about the other person where you're pointing fingers. What I've learned is like, it's never helpful if I'm like, 'You did this and you did that. You this, this and that.'' She continued, 'But it's more helpful if I'm like, 'Hey, when you said that, I know that's probably not how you meant it, but this is how I took it. And this is how it made me feel, and I wanted to be honest about that and give you the opportunity to explain a little bit more about what you meant by that.' Having a neutral moment like that, where it's not like finger-pointing, [is] super helpful.' Prewett tied the knot with Troutt in October 2022 after competing on Peter Weber's season 24 of The Bachelor. The couple welcomed their daughter, Hosanna, in January. Prewett's comments about her marriage come one week after she opened up about her and Troutt's differing experiences with sex and masturbation before their wedding. Prewett, however, noted that Troutt has changed. 'I am so thankful that when Grant had a radical transformation with Jesus, and when he started bringing accountability in his life and he chose to pursue a lifestyle of purity,' she said in a June episode of her podcast. 'He wasn't perfect. Did he have moments of falling short? He did. But he chose to pursue purity and because of that we were able to then at the altar when we gave ourselves to each other and to God, body, soul and spirit, we had such a joy and such a peace because we knew that was something we had pursued individually and together.'

'Bachelor' Star Madison Prewett Says She Has 'Been Free From' Masturbation For 10 Years

Former reality star Madi Prewett said this week she has been 'free' from masturbation for about 10 years after being 'enslaved' by it. In a podcast episode with a fervently religious perspective titled 'Porn & Masturbation: Harmless Habit Or Spiritual Stronghold,' the 'Bachelor' alum told her story. She said she had 'struggled' since middle school, declaring on her 'Stay True' show: 'Thankfully, by the grace of God and by the power of godly community and people around me, I have been free from porn and masturbation for, I don't even know, 10 years. But that was something that enslaved me and marked me for so long. That was something I felt like I could not break free from, no matter how much I loved Jesus.' 'Every time I gave in to sexual sin, I was robbed of confidence,' she continued. 'I questioned my worth and my identity.' Prewett. 29, said her obsession began around age 13 when she watched an 'extremely inappropriate' show at a friend's house. 'I had never watched anything like that before, and my body started feeling things that I had never felt before and I started, you know, wondering things that I'd never wondered before and then desiring it,' she recalled. Prewett was the runner-up who became Peter Weber's ultimate choice on 'The Bachelor' in 2020, but they announced their split after the season aired. One of their reported issues was lifestyle choice. Weber notably had sex four times in one night in a windmill with former 'Bachelorette' Hannah Brown while the 'Bachelor' was in production. Prewett, meanwhile, planned to abstain until marriage. Prewett, who is also an author, married Grant Troutt in October 2022. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in January.
