Development Projects Elevate Madinah as Premier Religious, Tourism Destination
Madinah is experiencing a wave of transformative development aimed at enhancing infrastructure, enriching tourism, and improving the overall quality of life for both residents and visitors. These efforts reflect the city's deep historical and religious significance, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. Madinah Led by the Madinah Region Development Authority and other key stakeholders, major pedestrian-friendly upgrades are underway in the city's central area, especially around the Prophet's Mosque. Improvements include expanded electric vehicle access, landscaped public spaces, and a new pedestrian corridor linking to the Quba Mosque—all designed to elevate the experience for pilgrims and residents alike. A cornerstone of this transformation is the Rua Al Madinah Project, situated near the Prophet's Mosque. Spanning over 1.5 million square meters, this expansive hospitality development will feature a network of underground tunnels and a variety of luxury hotels, with the capacity to welcome up to 30 million visitors annually. To the east of the Prophet's Mosque, the Madinah Gate Project—located near the Haramain High-Speed Railway station—covers 60,000 square meters. This project features distinctive architectural designs and direct connections to major roads, facilitating easy access to religious landmarks, the airport, and the high-speed rail, while enhancing Madinah's appeal as a hub for tourism and entertainment. Mount Uhud In addition to modern infrastructure, Madinah is investing in the preservation and revitalization of its historical heritage. The area surrounding Mount Uhud, located just 3 kilometers north of the Prophet's Mosque, is being redeveloped into a year-round destination featuring residential units with scenic views of historic sites. Essential services such as schools and hospitals are being incorporated into the area to support community growth. Adjacent to this zone, a 33,000 square meter cultural and recreational development will include restaurants, cafés, water features, an open-air museum, a historical virtual reality zone, and a theater for hosting events—blending heritage with modern leisure experiences. Supporting all these developments is a comprehensive upgrade to the city's transport infrastructure. The Madinah Buses Project is expanding connectivity across key locations including the Prophet's Mosque, Quba Mosque, the airport, and the Haramain station, making travel more efficient and accessible. Together, these strategic projects are shaping Madinah into a world-class religious and tourism destination—sustainable, inclusive, and deeply rooted in its spiritual legacy.
