Minister hands over ₹25 lakh compensation to custodial death victim Ajith Kumar's family
Minister for Co-operation K.R. Periyakaruppan on Friday handed over a cheque for ₹25 lakh towards compensation to the family of custodial death victim B. Ajith Kumar.
Ajith Kumar, a security guard at Madapuram temple near Thirupuvanam in the Sivaganga district, was beaten to death by the police during an investigation. The case is being investigated by the CBI.
Ajith Kumar's family was provided with a free house site and his brother B. Naveen Kumar was given a job as a technical assistant at Aavin in Karaikudi.
In response to Naveen Kumar's request, efforts are also under way to provide him with a job at the Madurai Aavin company and a free house site patta in the Madapuram area itself, a press statement of the district administration said.
The government had paid a relief amount of Rs. 7.5 lakh. However, the Madurai Bench of the High Court ordered the State government should pay another ₹25 lakh. Following this, Mr. Periyakaruppan handed over the ₹25 lakh to Ajith Kumar's family. District Collector K. Porkodi and Manmadurai MLA A. Thamilarasi were present.
