Magic Weekend defeat for Warrington Wolves - post-match reaction

DEFENDING champions Wigan Warriors proved to be too much for a depleted Warrington Wolves side to overcome at Magic Weekend. However, it was not for lack of trying as they came agonisingly close to completing a remarkable late fightback. In the end, they were a missed conversion away from forcing golden point after Stefan Ratchford missed the goal from Jake Thewlis' second try, which narrowed the scores to 22-20 With a raft of key players including George Williams, Danny Walker, Matty Ashton and Marc Sneyd absent, a long afternoon looked to be in store for The Wire after they conceded two tries in as many first-half minutes to Jai Field and Bevan French but to their credit, they fought their way back. Jake Thewlis touched down before the break and when Rodrick Tai followed him over the line just after half time, Warrington had narrowed the gap to just two points. However, Abbas Miski and Adam Keighran touched down to get Wigan back out to arm's length and a seemingly safe margin. Once Joe Philbin rumbled over and Thewlis touched down for his second, however, the comeback was on but Burgess' boys fell just short.
